And the human race hits an all-new low. Seriously, it takes a sick mind to do something like that.
I wonder if the FBI'll turn up anything, though or if that was thrown in just for PR. Either way, hopefully something'll be done about it. _________________

Just...wow.
I knew people were malicious, but this just takes the cake. In an ideal world, something will be done, but thinking realistically, I'm not sure if anything can be done about it. The Internet is simply too vast to patrol--it's much like preventing graffiti in the cities.
Hopefully this is just an isolated incident, and not the signal to some new form of internet pranking. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I've actually heard of an incident just like this, but it was actually allegedly part of a smear campaign, where the hackers posted seizure-inducing images and made a blatantly obvious but fake trail leading to the group they were trying to defame.
So maybe this is something along the same lines. But either way, at the risk of sounding like Forte, humans really suck sometimes. _________________ Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x]. |

Humans can be such disgusting creatures. Sure, there are a lot of good people like everyone here at REO for example, but there are also so many who are absolutely sickening. _________________

I recently read an article about what I believe was called "griefers"; people who play online games like EVE and Second Life...specifically with the intention of ruining things for other people.
What's sad about the griefers and these seizure spam guys is that they're nothing but children. Sure, some of them may look like adults, but they're just little kids on the inside. Immature little kids who have never learned that the world doesn't revolve around them and that other people have rights that need to be respected. And there's practically no way to get through to them that doesn't involve a prison sentence or a court order, and even then there's guarantee that they would change their ways. The world we live in can be so depressing at times... _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

The thing with MMO griefers is that you just need to learn how to play and attain some respectable gear. The people ruining MMOs are farmers, who basically guard a piece of the game they claimed as their territory and slaughter any players that get near it. At least griefers and gankers do things for shits and giggles, and eventually get bored.
As far as Second Life goes, well, that's not even a game. Considering the free reign over the environment, lack of gameplay mechanics, and lack of solid rules, Second Life deserves to be ruined. Besides, the people playing it are either losers that suck at real life (see: sociopath, furry), people that feed off of said losers for monetary gains - a noble goal, but hardly one that makes Second Life worthwhile for anything else (see: Anshe Chung) - or corporations and politicians vainly trying to look like they're in touch with current tech trends by holding virtual meetings (see: Ed Markey, Hewlett Packard).
Anyway, on the thread topic, this has hit the blogs a while ago, mostly circulating on the blogs. Can't say I care that much about it. One thing I don't get is how someone could be epileptic and not block images and text effects on the Internet. That's just begging to get hit with something like this. I don't see the point of going to the length of exploiting a site for epileptics, but that's only because the consequences aren't worth the laughs. _________________ *placeholder* |

you know, i could only think of one place where there are hackers that would do that. 4Chan. i honestly wouldn't be surprised if someone from there did it. in that case, from what i've heard, the FBI wouldn't be able to track them down at all. _________________ just call me xfyre. not xfyrethespooky. |

I know of one site that got hacked, and within 48 hours, the admins were able to get the hacker's phone number, full name, street address, and I think even his Social Security Number, all with minimal government intervention. (I think the hacker's ISP was the highest authority they had to go through.) So they proceeded to call up the hacker at his house and scare the living daylights outta him. _________________ Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x]. |

Wow, that's just cruel. People like these don't just think about the consequences.
On the hacking of Obama's website, that's sorta funny but sad at the same time.
Hackers like these wouldn't find this funny until it actually happens to them. |

a lot of people on 4chan that would do that are expert hackers. i'm sure they would protect themselves from that. _________________ just call me xfyre. not xfyrethespooky. |

Well people could deal with them once their usefulness against scientology is done with. And they say they are. They may not be though of course. |

i must say, reading your first paragraph and looking at your avatar is rather funny. on a more serious note, i finished replaying MMBN2 a couple weeks ago and this story reminded me of the Flashman incident ... it doesn't sound too far-fetched now. :/ _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

I find it hilarious that the general public thinks Anonymous is some kind of masked crusader fighting for truth and justice, here to rescue the cult members from the evil clutches of L. Ron Hubbard's posse XD
The best part is that Scientology will do everything they can to dig up dirt on their enemy, and if they can't find anything, they will make it up. But if they try to defame Anonymous, all of the crap they can say about them (like inducing seizures in epileptics) is true. Problem is that Anon doesn't even try to keep it quiet, and besides, most of the stuff they do is so outrageous that the public would think Scientology was just making it up.
I think Anonymous becoming a hero is the most lulzy part about this past year XD _________________

honestly, people who get griefed in games like EVE and WoW and stuff kinda deserve it. That's why you don't give stuff to randoms. _________________ all i ever wanted was the world |

So what's the justification for griefing them? What they're playing? Their behavior? Because unless they're the ones griefing in the first place, how do they deserve it? Why them and not us? Where do you draw the line between right and wrong with that sort of thing? _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

Griefing in games like WoW and Second Life is harmless. Extremely annoying, and very immature, but harmless nonetheless. I really don't think one can compare griefing to inducing seizures in epileptics.
It's one thing to make a whiny gamer bitch about all the pretend money they theoretically lost in-game, and it's another thing entirely to intentionally send people to the hospital. _________________

They have different levels of severity, sure, but it's still the same type of behavior. They're both perpetrated by the same type of idiot who gets his kicks out of tormenting other people, just that the seizure-inducer is being more ambitious than a typical griefer. Really all I've been trying to say. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover
