Pretty sure this would go here, since this is the general anime and manga (And games, of course!) section, xD.
Anyways, who here goes to conventions regularly or has been to a convention recently? I've been for about 2 years at cons now, starting with with Anime Expo (At Long Beach, no less x-x.), then have also attended PMX and ALA for the course of two years as well (Plus a mimi-ish con Mikomicon, but its still really small to really say much xD. Oddly, its a bit better than other cons at times ._.)
Right now, I have an Ash cosplay (First generation Pokemon, yea! xD), but I have being made a Darkrai cosplay (Wig get! All thats left is the suit, xD.) and I am planning on making Django Cross Megaman for next years AX. Plus, a HOLY suit is going to be made after the Darkrai, so this year's AX I should have quite a few changes xD.
So yea, post your experience at cons and such! This best be the place to post it, or drat on my part xD _________________ "An unholy light is here again. I've been attending conventions since 1997. n.n; Started with AnimeFEST in Dallas, and snowballed since then. I regularly attend AnimeFEST (Dallas, TX) and Otakon (Baltimore, MD). Not so regularly I try to go to A-kon (Dallas, TX) and OniCon (Houston, TX).
I have kept every badge for all the cons I have been to. I have quite a collection now. XD

Ash cosplay, huh? Coincidentally, I've been working on a Richie cosplay. Likely won't be ready until next year, though.
My first convention was Animethon way back in 2002. Unfortunately, I was only there for a single day. The next year was the same. But from the following year onward, I've been attending cons for the entire duration. My first trip to Otakon was back in 2004 and it was a blast! I met many wonderful people here from REO; Ryouko, Pyo, Sai, and many others. It was awesomesauce. ^_^ Ever since then, I've tried to go to Otakon whenever I can and I go to Animethon every year (except last year since it fell on the exact same weekend as Otakon). And last year, I decided to take a trip to Calgary in May for Otafest (as a means to make up for not attending Animethon).
Starting in 2006, I began to enter the Animethon AMV Contest. The very first year was solely just to participate. In the years following, I've been entering the AMV contests to win; each year proving better than the last. Last year one of my AMVs, Football Training Montage, made it into the finals at Otafest's AMV contest. This year, I hope I can get at least another into the finals and at most actually win something (one of the AMVs I'm entering is a completely original idea).
My very first cosplay for a con was my Shuryou and Shun combo for Otakon 2004. It was fun being able to switch from Shuryou to Shun partway through each day. Ever since, my cosplay list has been increasing. Solar Boy Django, Dark Rockman, Subaru Hoshikawa, Sora, Roxas, L Lawliet, Eyeshield 21, Tsuna Sawada. This year, I'm re-wearing two of them and wearing a new one. The new one is a catboy (still deciding between Shota Catboy and Ninja Catboy). The re-wears are Eyeshield 21 (because I loved that one so much for all the attention it got me ^_^) and Tsuna Sawada (since that debuted on Halloween).
So all in all, I thoroughly enjoy anime conventions and I love cosplays. In fact, any time there's an event held by the anime community in my hometown you can bet your bionic implants that I'll be there. Anime conventions are a great way to meet new people who share your interests and it's undoubtedly super special awesome. ^_^ _________________

Actually, I think this would fit more in the General Discussion, so I'll go ahead and move it there!

My first convention was called Shikkaricon down at a community college, and it was a blast! There i wore a Yuki Nagato cosplay (though the wig was and IS STILL FRIZZY!! XDD. there we met Kyle Herbert, and the panel he did was rather funny! it was great X3. ) it was a small convention, though.
Then, a little later, i went to Zenkaikon, and made the mistake of going when my friends were just leaving O_O;. they had stuff like Otaku bellydancing and other crazed things XDD. it was awesome! located in Valley Forge, PA at the Scanticon. this year it's being held somewhere else, but i'll be going ^^
no more Shikkaricon, Bucks County Community College is no longer funding that
and i cosplayed in a random Kimono-like outfit i wore from my Dad when he went to Beijing. i will attend Zenkaikon regularly!! it's gonna be awesome this year too :3!!
as for upcoming ones, this Saturday i'm going with my buddies to AnimeNEXT!! some of the events sound really exciting! Human Cosplay Chess XDD. gotta see that. and i'll be going as Chaud for this one (already got the outfit together! it was hard to find camo pants X33) _________________

My first con was MegaCon in Orlando, FL about 5 years ago, when I 1st came to college. I didn't know what to expect, and was just wow'ed by all I saw. The con touched not only on anime and games, but sci-fi and fantasy as well. I replaced my entire wardrobe and spent about $500 in that one weekend, and I don't regret a single penny. After that year, I decided to make that con a one-day affair, since the magic of it faded rather quickly.
The other con I am actively involved with is MetrocCon. In it's 7th year, I was introduced to it in year 3 by a couple friends who staff it. It's the incredible con that could, since I've seen it grow quite large while volunteering for it. This coming year is my second working with Guest relations, and with the crazy lineup this year, it's gonna be nuts. _________________

I've been to 6 cons so far, my first being the local one Connecticon which is coming up the end of July into the start of August. Other then that I went to one Anime Boston. My first costume was Michael from Witch Hunter Robin though I don't think I pulled it off too well, nobody recognized me and the tempature was way too high to be wearing a long sleeved shirt. My first con was also the first one I discovered the joys and the pains of a glomp counter. A guy ran down a hill and did a flying leap glomp at me...it was more painful then fun. I digress, I'm amped for this coming Connecticon, its always been fun and I get a chance to talk to a lot of my favorite webcomic artists, watch some anime I haven't seen yet, and score some swag off the Dealer's room :D _________________ This post is brought to you by Strider Angelus Productions!

The first convention I ever attended was one of Games Workshop's Games Day events back in who knows when in Chicago. Somewhere in the late 90s.
I started attending Otakon in 2004. Even though there are closer anime conventions, I enjoy the people I met through Otakon, so it's my official anime convention for the year.
I attended Gencon Indy for the first time in 2007, mostly to play in Legend of the Five Rings (L5R) events. I may or may not attend it this year due to lack of money. _________________ (\ ºvº\ (\

Yayz, i actually had admins and mods post here, awesome! xD.
And okay, was wondering about why I couldn't find this topic no more, but luckily found it again xD.
At marihikari; Awesome, first con was a community college convention? Thats pretty much Mikomicon actually, xD! Its held in CSUN actually, teh place i plan to go to college later on (It being a free pass to CSUN students is no added incentive >.>).
And bloody awesome, I love how much people have done cons now : D. Hopefully by AX's aftermath, i'll have some photos to post up here! Everyone's next con, take photos for the masses! xD.
*And yes, I am intensely sleepy and tired, that would be why this post may seem oddly constructed, I tend to be more "fixed typing" at this time of night xD* _________________ "An unholy light is here again. Come to think of it, don't most conventions start of in a community college or hotel? _________________

Connecticon started off on hartford's college campus, then it moved into the newly built convention center, and to my knowledge Anime Boston is still based out of a hotel/mall which is awesome. _________________ This post is brought to you by Strider Angelus Productions!

Yea, that is true. Pacific Media Expo is in its 6-7th year now, i believe, and its still held in a hotel. same for Anime Los Angeles, but this makes it a lot easier for con-goers to be safe and have a better time out (Since convention and hotel are in the same place, people can enjoy the dances and stuff without worry, since it is in the hotel still, xD! _________________ "An unholy light is here again. I've been around a lot of conventions, though it's kinda dying down due to growing up but I still wish to make it a part of my life.
My first convention was C-Kon 2002 that took place back in Indianapolis, Indiana that a friend suggested to me. It was pretty swell. My first exposure to Hellsing and Excel Saga plus got to meet Wendee Lee (Faye Valentine of Cowboy Bebop) and Rikki Simmons (Gir of Invader Zim) who showed us the uncut version of the Christmas special of Invader Zim that was Uncut along with a few other uncut goodies way before the DVD's ever released after Nick kicked them off the air. Great times.
Since then I've been to several ones.
Ohayocon (06)
Otakon (04-08, 2009 real soon!)
Sugoicon (03-07)
Daigacon (09)
ComeriationCon (04)
Best one has to be Otakon by far! Heck I remember my first one in '04. I was lucky Terra and John were nice enough to let me join them at the Holiday Inn. My first time i could remember flying on a plane since I was a baby. My first real vacation, meeting everyone here from REO in real life. Rocking La'Arc~en Ciel at the 1st Mariner Arena. Eating Sushi for my first time and John and Terra trying to teach me how to eat with Chopsticks. Yeah, good times, and since then all that have followed were awesome!
I Just look forward to next month! Though i'll be on a tight budget *sigh* _________________ -Follow me on Twitch.tv-

you get a free pass?? nice :3! that sounds like a lot of fun!
and yeah, a lot of them are at hotels- Zenkaikon was at the Scanticon in Valley Forge, but they're moving to a supposedly bigger place this year (i'm going again X33)
and then i go to one Saturday!! it's gonna be awesome- there are a lot of voice actors/actresses that i know of (especially Greg Ayres, who is Satoshi from D.N. Angel and Chrono from Chrono Crusade _________________

Yea, i got my first ticket to the con at AX 07 when they where giving them away at the Transformers preview, because they had been planning a Pokemon tournament there and saw me in Ash cosplay xD. Sadly, no tournament, but still a really fun and small con. I won't be able to enjoy free tickets for another 2 years, when I transfer out of the community college near my house xD (Its for cost purposes.)
And lucky you, having a con to go to so soon D8. I still haev to wait 19 days-ish for AX still xD _________________ "An unholy light is here again. Our lost souls gather to it, as if mourning to our past. We do not deserve the pain in which we place ourselves. Humanity is without that need..." |

My first con was Otakon back in...2004 I think. :D It's pretty weird now seeing all the same people, and it's weird that I was like...12/13, and in like 6th/7th grade when I first went and now I'm 18 and I'm gonna be a freshman in college. O_O
Otakon is my regular/yearly event :D And I've been to ACEN here in IL two times, but it's pretty lame. There also used to be a really small con called Reactor run by a friend-of-a-friend around by me but it is no more D:
