|
|
Heya,
I recently fell back into a game obsession that had me in its grip years ago. Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars has got to be one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played.
On my DA account, I started uploading my plans for a fake sequel to this game. Screenshots, character profiles, the works.
So my question here: are there any people here who are fan of this game? Or just people who wanna talk about it? ^^ _________________

It's too expensive at the game store and emulators just don't cut it. |

I've always wanted to get that game, since I enjoy playing the Mario RPG game for the GBA. They have it for download on the Wii, so one of these days I'll have to get it for myself...
Is it sort of similar to the GBA RGP Mario games? _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

You know it's on the virtual console, right? _________________

You assume I have a wii? Yes, I know it's on the virtual console, but it's essentially the same as an emulator. I'll have to get one of those SNES controller clones. (I like the classic controller, but there is definitely a difference. The SNES was my first console so I care about the subtle differences.) |

Awesome game. and IMO the hardest Mario RPG game thus far.
Getting the Super Suit was a ***** by doing 100 super jumps in 1 battle....
Culex was an awesome boss and I loved the Axem Rangers
Geno is the cheapest character, because once you learn to time his attack, you can do insane damage...... You could basically 1-3HKO the bosses in the game. |

Admitted, once you learn how to time Geno Whirl, defeating regular enemies becomes easy peasy. Too bad it doesn't work on bosses XP
As cheap as his attack may be, Geno will always be my favourite character (as if my DA name wasn't obvious enough)
To answer Linkfreak's question, SMRPG was the first Mario RPG game to be made and therefore is both different and simular to SuperStar Saga on GBA. Attacking and defending is still timed and the battle system bears a great resemblance to the GBA game. Different is the overal feel of the game since it's made to be in semi 3D, which can be a pain at times. And it has an array of interesting characters which unfortunately never will be re-used in a new Mario RPG game unless Square Enix says 'yes' to it. _________________

Well I was able to 1HKO Exor with Geno Whirl (after disabling his protection of course).
So it is possible to do it with bosses. It is only harder. |

Eh I'm a big Mario fan, but SMRPG is no Mario game at all. It's a FF game in disguise with a handful of Mario cameos.
Didn't like it much, it was pretty boring even as a first Mario RPG game, the latter ones are much much much better. I'm actually glad they rewrote that part of the story with Paper Mario. _________________ SPOILER:

I remember playing Super Mario RPG back when I was little, my friend had it and when their parents watched me and my sis I'd always steal away to play it. Not to shabby for Mario's first RPG. _________________ This post is brought to you by Strider Angelus Productions!

What an epic game it was. At the time my brother got it(and rather cheap too) I was mostly looking him play at the SNES, so in terms of gameplay,I can't say much.
BUT the mini-game, the one where you need to destroy the shells and your this sort of bug, this got me going for a long while. I use to take the game just to play the mini game and try to beat the high score _________________ don't mind me.I'm quite quiet.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on your first point. If SMRPG were an FF game in disguise, surely it would have more FF characters. Take Moogles, Chocobo and the array of classic FF enemies. None are in SMRPG, but we DO have Goombas, Koopas, Wigglers and other classic Mario characters. Frankly, the only real FF character in SMRPG is Culex. It also doesn't use the typical magic system (Fire, Fira, Firaga) or have FF related items (Phoenix Down, Potions, Ether etc.). Instead we have mushrooms, flowers and koopa shells. SMRPG DID however borrow a lot from FF, such as being the first game with Mario that has an experience point system and a battle sequence that involves having to take turns.
So in my opinion, SMRPG is a Mario game with strong FF influences, since it was Square working together with Nintendo and not the other way around. Admitted, compared with the games prior to it, it looks nowhere near a Mario game (running around, jumping platforms etc.) so it was just the start of a new Mario game genre, the RPG genre. _________________

Before I forget it. Who here has seen the "Rawest Forest song" flash video based on the oh so annoying Maze in SMRPG? |

I miss that game...my cousin used to have the guide for it. Maybe, if she still has it, I can ask her for it. ^_^; _________________
