Golden Sun DS (It's real this time)

So I was catching the streams of Nintendo's E3 presentation earlier today, watching our pal Reggie do his thing. Everything was about as expected until we got to the RPG portion, and then this came out of nowhere.

I, along with a good many other people, let out a collective ''GOLDEN SUN??!!''

So, it's been nearly six years since The Lost Age came out, and we finally have another game in the works. I recall an article a few years back where the Takahashi brothers said that they wanted those two games to be a springboard for something bigger, so I am of course interested in what direction this game is going to be taken in. The graphics already look pretty good, and I feel that they did a good job converting the old 2D overworld to a 3D format while keeping the same feel of the GBA games.

Looking forward to this one, sometime in 2010 I suppose.

Oh my gosh, you can't be serious! I adore the Golden Sun Games! Wow, I can't believe after all this time they're making another squeal! I guess it's time to bust out my Jenna cosplay again this year. ^_~

I've been saying that I wanted a DS version of Golden Sun since the *original* DS came out and now, it's finally here. I can't wait to see the gameplay videos.

So, according to Nintendo's (brief) press release, this game will take place some time after the first two, starring the descendants of the previous protagonists (Insert shipping war the likes of which the Internet has never seen)

And here's the full, uncropped version of an official art poster that was included. It features three of our new protagonists, whom I have dubbed Isaac Jr., Garet Jr., and Mia Jr., for reasons that should be obvious. Isaac Jr.'s and Garet Jr.'s outfits look fairly modern compared to the old ones. Heck, Garet Jr.'s even got some goggles, and appears to be a Jupiter Adept...? I guess their world had some technological leaps after Alchemy was restored.

Thanks for the poster ComicX6! I wonder if the old protagonists will be making brief appearances in this new game.

Alright, just one last thing. Gameplay footage from the demo, which is so brief it's more of a glorified trailer. Show's Isaac Jr. traversing some staple Golden Sun enviroments: a rocky plateau, a cave, and a forest.

More importantly, it shows a random encounter battle or two, and even in this low quality, it looks pretty darn nice, no super deformed characters, again being very familiar to the GBA stuff despite the full 3D. Shows a few of the old, familiar summons, but the person playing skips through some of their animations.

I'm hoping that this game pushes the DS to it's limits just like the old ones did for the GBA. Looks very promising, and hopefully worth every one of these six years.

I hope some things from the original games get answered in this game.

1. Is Alex still alive (and can we finally fight him)?
2. Some of the Mars stone power was put into Isaac by the Wise One. So will "Isaac Jr" have that power now?
3. Will we finally go to Sheba's real home (The city which went to the sky -> big crater near Jupiter Lighthouse)

Even though the DSi doesn't support GBA, I hope they will make some unlockables by inserting one of the GBA games for the DS/DS Lite (like MMBN5DS/Star Force 1+2).

Hopefully the continents have grown again, because they were shrinking without the Golden Sun.
