Another fanfic I'll recommend is Lan and Lyne, by our very own Megawoman.EXE. All I'll say about it is give it a chance, it does start out a little slow and not that good, but give it some time. It does turn quite epic by the end of it's first season (of which it's some way into it's third which was last updated a good 2 years ago. I've been talking with her recently, and as she mentioned on here not long back, it's supposedly making a comeback shortly |

I think it's Greek, Sai, for 'Hello, my brethren. I come to you with a most poignant recommendation. In the fanfiction section of the fine site, there exists a writer with skills. Her's is the first thread on the top of the page. Please give her writing a read. She is excellent.'
But my Greek's a little rusty, sooooo... _________________

Heh, this is something I could have answered three years ago, given that I was a far more active reviewer back in the day. Granted, I have never written anything (save that one contest fic, which turned out to be okay), but the general consensus is that I do give rather blunt opinions of what I read.
For fics here, I cannot recommend actual titles, as most of them escape me at this point, but I can definitely recommend authors:
Neko: Need I say more? Very lucid in her writing, and has a masterful command of both comedy and drama when it needs to be done. Many times I've praised her works for her originality and intrigue, and even though she's stopped for the time being (seems like everyone has stopped, actually) I still hold her in the highest regard. Well done.
Featherdust: Somewhat angsty and darker than Neko, but she has an absolute mastery over atmosphere and environment. She takes descriptions and brings them to the next level--her scenes so richly detailed it's almost like a television program. Sadly, she also seems to be buried in the dusts of time, but while she was active, her works were always a joy to read.
The Webbuilder: A writer I truly miss. Whilst he was active he would always write stories that tugged at me and for now, he stands as the only guy in my head to reasonably and successfully cross YGO into this fandom--I've seen far too many failures of that sort.
Stories of honorable mention: "Us After This," by Shimegami. If you find my review for it archived on FF.net, you'll see why I have regarded this work so highly. I've been reading things on and off for nearly 6 years now, and this has been the only work to bring tears to my eyes. Wonderful show.
For now, those stick out in my head--I'm sure I'll add more as I stroll through the forum and immerse myself in the past.
Edit: Sai, I'm not sure even Uhura or Hoshi Sato could pick through that. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Midnight, I just finished Us After This, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Probably my favorite so far. It's sad and even a little frustrating that the sequel hasn't been updated in eons. I was excited to read it.
Author names aren't really as helpful, especially when some, like Neko, have written so many.
The rest I've either read, am looking into reading, or glanced at and saw they were awful. I can only read a fic for fun if it doesn't have blaring grammatical errors and 5th-grade-level plot holes. I'll read one that has errors if I'm helping to fix it, but I want entertainment here, not work. XD |
