Harp Note

i started to think about how (nearly) every rockman series has a roll. then i noticed, RNR does not have a roll, they have harp note. so that got me to think, "did harp note replace roll?"

think about it. they both are pink, blonde, and they both have green eyed. (yes, i know that sonia has red-ish hair, but it turns pink when she becomes harp note.) to me they look way to similar for harp note to just be another female character. to me, she is hinted to be rolls replacement.

Well, not quite. The pattern here seems to be that the blonde female major protagonist wears pink.

Saying Harp Note is the Ryusei series' Roll-equivalent is like saying Alia is the same for the X series. Both have certain similarities to the various incarnations of Roll, but they each complement a different character archetype and they consequently serve a different function in the story.

In this particular case, Harp Note is a close parallel to Rockman and a very strong and capable character in her own right. Her personality is also considerably more rash, not entirely unlike Netto from the EXE series. She simply doesn't fit the mold of a Roll-like character, superficialities aside (and, incidentally, Roll classically wore red).

Aww, that brings up memories of when she was first revealed and we all DID call her Roll...basically up until the anime revealed her name as Harp Note.

You could easily make connections to all the RnR crew as "replacements" if you wanted to: Gonta as Dekao, etc., etc., but they all eventually grew out of that exact stereotype and became their own character. There are similarities for a reason, no different from the similarities between any of the Rockmen. But they all are their own unique persona, and not necessarily a replacement for one in a previous series.

Yeah. Roll fit the um...role of female main character. Harp Note and Alia are as well. It's just Harp and EXE Roll have more...fighting roles. Like how Burai/Rouge is similar to the Protoman or the Bass of Star Force.
They're character types.
That make any sense?

In a way you can also argue that Luna is actually SSR's "Roll". She is a support character whom Rockman usually tries to protect.

The character types don't always match. Before Solo existed, there was no rival type, and SSR functioned alright without one. One could argue that Tsukasa filled it at first since he was a master at EM Transformation, but Tsukasa is not the rival type. Like Rock Miyabi said, they all have their own unique characters even if SOME follow EXE character types. Neither Luna or Misora are very Meiru like while Gonta is a lot like Dekao. Akane is not as passive as Haruka (and I'm going to also argue that Akane is hotter too ;D). If you try to fit them all into archtypes, who is Amachi supposed to be? What about Tsukasa and Hikaru? Goyouda? Ikuta is certainly not a Mariko type.

good point. i have not thought about their personality differences, only the differences in their apearence. putting it the way you did branced the topic to much for my microscopic brain.

Character types are just to start with. You build on them. Which is what Star Force did.
