Kekekeke....
This can only get better as the story progresses. No doubt you'll have Tesla freak out over having her daughter beat her at her own game...this should be getting better. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Now I wonder who Laika's parents are. :O I throughly enjoyed this piece; I now can't picture Netto not being in a dress. Anyway, I look forward to the next chapter. *goes to scrub his brain with lysol steel wool* _________________

Laika led Netto back into the ballroom and held her next to him. Netto couldn’t help but smirk as other girls walked away, dejected and forlorn at their missed chance. “You’re amused?” Laika asked out of the corner of his mouth.
“Oh, you have no idea, your highness,” Netto chuckled. “Of all the girls in the kingdom, you chose the tomboy. How’s that for a story?”
“Out of all the girls in the kingdom, I chose one with a brain,” Laika corrected her. “And I believe I made a perfectly fine decision. It’s not like I would base my choice off looks.”
Netto’s eyes danced with laughter as she looked up at Laika. “Oh? So, even if I wasn’t a cute girl, you’d still be with me?”
“I didn’t say that,” Laika huffed. “You’re plenty cute. In fact you’re very nice looking I…” he stopped suddenly, his blush deepening.
Netto burst into laughter. “You are way too easy to fool, your highness,” she chuckled.
“You did that on purpose,” Laika noted with amusement. “Did you want to be complimented that badly?”
Netto winced mockingly. “Ouch, your grace. Didn’t your mother teach you it was polite to compliment a lady?”
“Are you a lady?” Laika asked.
Netto let go of Laika’s arm and ran in front of him, stepping backwards as he stepped forwards through the crowed. She leaned forward with her hands linked behind her back and grinned as Laika stopped suddenly. “I don’t know. Am I? Do I look like a girl who would sit primly as the world moved on outside?”
Laika blinked and pondered this. “No,” he answered. Then he grinned as he realized that he liked the fact that he was answering ‘no’ to this question. “No,” he said again. “You look like the kind of girl who would jump into a debate that could change the course of this country without a second thought.”
“Damn right,” Netto replied, straightening up. “So, am I a lady?”
“No,” Laika said softly. “You’re not a lady.”
Netto smiled and resumed her position on Laika’s right side. “So then,” she continued. “What am I?”
“I don’t know,” Laika said truthfully. “But if you let me think about it, I’ll answer.”
“Sounds good to me,” Netto said cheerfully. “But you have to promise to tell me by midnight,” she said.
“Okay,” Laika looked up at an old clock tower that read 11:00. They had been talking for nearly an hour since they had met his parents. “I’ll give you my answer in an hour.”
Netto nodded and a new song could be heard in the background. “Want to dance again?”
Laika felt, for the first time in awhile, completely at ease. He nodded stoically, which made Netto giggle as she took his arm. Together they went out onto the dance floor and began to dance to the lively tune.
The two danced happily for forty-five minutes and every once in awhile Netto would take a peek at the hallway to see Rock chatting with the same man she had been with all night. She was happy and that made Netto happy. Finally, Laika led her to a more private place when they decided that they couldn’t dance anymore.
“You really care about her, don’t you?” Laika asked softly.
Netto blinked. “Rock? Yeah… well, she is my sister and she’s also the only one who really cares about me. Ever since papa died she’s been the only one who really cared about me. So I care about her a lot.”
Laika frowned. He was glad he was getting this glimpse into Netto’s ‘softer side’ but he also felt at odds with her bare emotions. Perhaps this was something he wasn’t used to. “Netto…”
“So, have you decided?” Netto asked suddenly.
“Huh?” Laika asked.
“What am I?” Netto grinned. “If I’m not a lady, then what am I?”
“Oh,” Laika said suddenly. He frowned and looked at the girl that was in front of him, wondering if such a chance would ever wander by him again. Maybe, just maybe, he should go ahead with what the ball was intended for.
“Laika?” Netto asked, frowning at the boy. He was being awfully quiet and it unnerved her to see him like that.
Laika stepped forward and took Netto by the shoulders. “You know why I had this ball, right?”
“Your parents made you?” Netto asked, looking up at Laika and trying to figure out what he was doing.
“Yes. But the point of this ball was for me to find a girl, someone I could hopefully spend my time with. As is customary in my kingdom,” Laika answered coolly. It seemed that he was going to talk politics and this upset Netto a little.
“Laika…”
“No, let me finish please,” Laika said softly. “Look, Netto. I was planning on getting through the night and saying I didn’t find anyone and that we should try again next year. Only…” Laika stopped and switched gears. “Netto, you’re not a lady. You’re much, much more. And, I may not know what you are right now, but if you wanted… possibly…”
Netto looked up and gave Laika a small, scared smile that he had never seen on anyone’s face before. “What?” she asked quietly. “You’re going to finish ‘but if you wanted, you could be a queen?”
Laika swallowed and nodded. “Only you would finish your own damn proposal,” he said with the barest hint of a grin.
“Laika…” Netto frowned. “I…” she blinked and realized that she had fallen for the man in front of her. “It’s so… sudden.”
“Nothing permanent,” Laika said quickly. “Just… title. To make my parents ease up on me and to give me an excuse to see you. If it doesn’t work out then we’ll break the engagement, I promise.”
Netto looked at Laika and scanned his eyes, she found that he was dead serious. “I…” She took in a deep breath and realized that she wanted to see him again. More often. If this was what it took then she was all right with it. “All right,” she said. “I’ll do it.”
Laika’s cold eyes smiled, even though his mouth did not. He put his warm fingers under Netto’s chin and lifted her face up to his. The girl didn’t struggle as he placed his warm lips on hers.
Just then, the clock began to ring midnight.

Oh dear, and a pact is struck just as the buzzer sounds...
I really enjoy how you characterize Laika in this one--how he's searching for more than the average groupie...but I digress. It appears that both of them will turn out to be quite satisfied with the arrangement--but since when is it ever easy in a fairy tale?
I look forward to Plant's turn at this, as always. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy
