Just started reading this today. I like it. I felt soo sad when they took Rock away. I wonder what you're going to have Forte do? |

Why can't Neko finish it ?It's very good and interesting? Why so many good stories have to be discontinued? _________________ There is always a happy-ending for everyone!

There could be many reasons why people never finished fics, but I'll give the more probable reason: a lost interest in the fandom.
It's not uncommon, unfortunately.
Also, while it's -technically- not against the rules to necropost in here, considering that...well, they're fics that people can review, I really urge everyone to look at the post date before they make a post. _________________

Wow, and here I was thinking that I had missed a long-overdue update to these classics. But I digress...
Definitely echoing what's going on here--it's quite unlike the heyday of the fandom's past, some several years ago, when this forum was abuzz with activity and quite often populated with fics, good and bad. Sadly the fandom has gone the way of the aging white dwarf, slowly cooling and fading into oblivion. The reason many of these good works remain unfinished is the same as any other unfinished work in any discipline--the same way that The Canterbury Tales remained unfinished and released despite its incomplete status, or Mahler's Unfinished Symphony reached acclaim--though in the latter case, the creator's death is not the reason it remains unfinished. It's just a lack of an audience, or a will to continue the story to a conclusion. Even now, I am assisting an author who has placed one of her opuses on a nearly one-year hiatus as real life overtakes her and she works on draft after draft in the interim. Just be patient--it could eventually return.
Nevertheless, it's still good to see that new people are filtering in and reading; it keeps the memories of the past alive so that someday, just maybe, it might be returned to. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Netto fitfully tossed and turned under his covers as he tried desperately to sleep. It almost seemed like the more he tried the more awake he became. It was aggravating and he almost wished that school would start soon just so he had something to do other than listen to the darkness in his room.
Almost.
After nearly suffocating himself in the sheets with one too many twists he wrestled himself free and simply laid on top of his bed. He stared at the ceiling, ready to just give up his attempts and do something, anything too keep his mind off…things. But after simply lying still for a few minutes he began to feel sleepy and sometime between deciding to mess with his PET and taking another shower he fell asleep.
Netto slowly opened his eyes, blinking them sleepily in the darkness. It wasn’t the darkness of his room, he could tell immediately it probably wasn’t even his own realm. A dream? But it felt so real, and the darkness to complete to be written off as a dream. He started to feel scared and tried to call out in case anyone was there but he couldn’t even tell if he opened his mouth, let alone if he made a sound. After a few minutes he could feel himself genuinely begin to feel panicky, he tried to pinch himself or do something to wake up in his own bed, or at least not here. He’d settle for anything at the moment.
‘tto-kun…’
Netto stopped freaking out for a moment to concentrate. If he didn’t know any better he could have sworn that was…
/Netto-kun,/ a familiar voice resonated in the void.
/Rockman?/ Netto replied. He strained to hear a response. Staying as still as possible he waited patiently for something, anything to reply. If it really was… oh… if it was only… /Nii-san?/ he tried again after what seemed like hours had dragged by.
Suddenly Netto felt a presence in front of him, then he saw his own image looking back at him. Netto broke into a grin so wide he could almost feel it even though he wasn’t entirely sure he was in a physical place. /Rockman,/ he said again and reached out, just to make sure his brain wasn’t messing with him. For all he knew he had finally cracked from the isolation and was hallucinating everything.
Rockman grinned, his slightly hazel eyes looking bright and happy. Rockman reached out and pulled Netto into a tight hug. /Netto-kun,/ he said, his mental voice almost sounding choked, as if he was going to cry. /Netto-kun,/ he said again and buried his face in Netto’s shoulder. Netto gasped at the warm sensation that went through his body and hugged his twin back, twice as fiercely as the hug he was receiving. Everything was just too real- he hoped, no he knew – this was no hallucination. Somehow, somewhere he was finally back with Rockman and that simple fact brought forth a flood of emotion that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
/Rockman,/ Netto sobbed, finally letting it sink in as he began to cry on Rockman’s shoulder. /Oh my god, nii-san. This is the weirdest thing you’ve ever done so far,/ he said with a little bit of humor cracking through.
Rockman chuckled. /Really? I personally think the way we fight Forte is way more weird,/ he offered back.
Netto grinned and buried his face deeper into Rockman’s…no Saito’s neck and clung even tighter to his older brother. Saito reciprocated the feelings and gently stroked Netto’s hair. It had just been so long. After a long while Saito seemed to regain his composure first and started wonder /what’s going on?/
Netto wasn’t quite ready to deal with how or why he had gotten there and simply shook his head into Saito’s shoulder. /Don’t know, don’t care,/ he said.
/You should,/ Saito admonished but still didn’t let go of his younger twin. /You’re not supposed to be here, and I’m not supposed to be conscious. This won’t go unnoticed, Netto-kun./
/I don’t care,/ Netto said forcefully and continued to cling. /It’s not like she cares about how I feel anyways./
Netto could feel Saito stiffen and he knew that his brother now wanted to get answers to whatever was going on. He sighed and let go so that he could face him but Saito kept his hands on Netto’s shoulders. /Netto-kun, this is serious. We’re not supposed to be able to contact each other. If anyone found out you could be in deeper trouble than before. Did you do anything?/
Netto had the dignity to look affronted and coolly brushed Saito’s hands off of his shoulders while he furiously tried to dry his eyes. /What do you mean did I do anything?/ he asked with a huff. /I went to bed, since when is that a crime?/
Saito raised up his hands in apology. /Sorry, I’m just worried. I don’t want you to get into any further trouble,/ he said. /I mean, it’s a valid question,/ he said pointedly.
/Yeah…/ Netto answered slowly and then they both looked at each other. They shared a glance then both burst out laughing. Netto hadn’t laughed in so long he almost had forgotten that if you laugh too hard it starts to hurt. As his sides began to ache he began to berate his brother. /Stop it, you’re making me laugh,/ he gasped while he tried to stop.
/You’re making me laugh!/ Saito replied in the same manner as Netto. Of course this only served to make the two laugh even harder. After several minutes (or hours if Netto’s aching stomach muscles had anything to say about it) they finally calmed down enough, emotionally to have a serious conversation.
/Really, Netto-kun, you’re not supposed to be here,/ Saito said as they sat down, back to back, on whatever plane of existence they were on, leaning against one another for support. /You need to get back, and I need to go back into stasis before anyone figures out anything is wrong./
Netto sighed heavily. /I know,/ he replied. /But I don’t know how I got here and I sure as hell don’t know how to get back./
/I believe you,/ Saito said. /But we still need to figure out how./
/Close my eyes and wish real hard?/ Netto asked facetiously.
/Netto-kun,/ Saito sighed and pushed against Netto. /I’m serious here./
/Me too,/ Netto replied forcefully. /Your guess is as good as mine. I swear all I did was fall asleep!/
/I guess it’s not that easy to completely cut off the link,/ Saito mused. /But it’s still dangerous, I’m just concerned,/ he said again.
/Yes, yes, I know,/ Netto said and rolled his eyes. /You’re always concerned. About everything./
/That’s not true,/ Saito huffed. /And you should be worried, what if you can’t leave?/
/At least I’m with you,/ Netto answered honestly.
Saito was touched. Really he was. Nothing else could have mattered more to him at that moment then being with Netto-kun and staying with him. He wanted so badly to just not care, like Netto, and accept the circumstances as they were. But he also knew that nothing good could come of their meeting. Something was wrong, or something didn’t work right and he just knew that Netto was going to be the one in trouble for it and that scared him more than his relief at the moment. Netto could feel Saito’s concern and he pushed up against his twin. /Sorry,/ Saito murmured. /But I just think you really need to get back./
Netto sighed heavily, he knew Saito was right but damn it all if he cared one bit at the moment. Then again such thinking was really why he depended on his older brother so much in the first place. /Well, maybe it’ll work it’s self out?/ he asked honestly.
/Maybe,/ Saito replied. There wasn’t much they could do anyways.
They sat together like that for awhile longer when something came to Saito. /Are you doing your homework?/ he asked suddenly.
Netto groaned. /Really?/ he asked. /You’re supposed to be in stasis, I’m supposed to be completely blocked off from you and the internet, we have no idea where we are or how we got here and you want to know if I’ve done my homework?/ he asked.
Saito raised an eyebrow. /Now who’s being concerned?/ he teased.
Netto made a face, /I sound like you,/ he said.
/You don’t have to sound so upset,/ Saito replied, crossing his arms and sitting up a little bit, letting Netto lean back further and nearly fall into whatever they were in.
Netto straightened up and pushed closer to Saito, trying to soothe his brother’s ego. /Sorry,/ he said with a little laugh. /It’s just so you to ask about my homework before anything else./
/It’s so you to ignore your homework completely if no one makes you do it, regardless of the circumstances,/ Saito shot back, but relaxed a little and let Netto lean against him again.
/Ouch,/ Netto said, wincing a little but in good humor. /I’ve done it,/ he said. /Trill’s made me do it./
Saito nodded. /Good. And are you getting up on time, and eating right?/ he continued.
Netto rolled his eyes. /Yes, believe it or not mama’s pretty good at making me do those things too,/ he replied.
Saito rubbed the back of his head. /I know, I’m just used to…being there…/ he said sadly.
/I’m used to you being there,/ Netto replied. /I miss you,/ he said quietly.
/Me too,/ Saito sighed.
Their conversation lagged for a long while and they just sat there, in the darkness. Saito was perfectly content with this considering these were the first lucid thoughts he’d had in weeks. Hopefully some way to get Netto back to where he needed to be would show up soon. If not then he’d start looking for a solution. For the moment he was just too content to be near his brother again to take the initiative to find a way to do this. But all good things must come to an end and Saito’s worry became too much. They needed to do something. /Netto-kun?/ he asked finally. /We need to get you back…/ he started but stopped when he realized Netto was sleeping peacefully against his back. Saito grinned and looked up into the nothingness. Of course he fell asleep, what else would he do if they were quiet for so long. After a little longer Saito drifted off too, thinking that when they woke up they would find some way to fix everything…

Netto groaned as the sunlight stream hit his eyes. “Netto-kun?” a small voice said.
Netto blinked a few times then grumbled and turned over under his covers. “Mmnh… five more minutes,” he groaned. It had been such a nice sleep… so warm…
“School started five minutes ago,” Trill said matter of factly.
Netto pushed himself up and shook the cobwebs out of his head. Everything rushed back, Saito, the darkness, being together… he almost wanted to just sink back into his covers and go back to that peaceful place but then his brain finally caught up with what Trill had just informed him of. “Huh?” he finally mustered, his head a jumble of emotions, sleepiness and now an edge of panic.
“School began…six minutes ago,” Trill offered again.
“Damnit,” Netto yelled as he jumped out of bed and looked around frantically for his clothes. Figuring out what happened would have to wait for later. Right now he needed to make sure that no one knew anything was different for Rockman’s sake and his own. Plus missing school was probably not the best way to keep his friends from getting too concerned. He looked around for his vest while Trill continued to count.
“Seven minutes!” the tiny navi helpfully offered with a grin.
Netto yelled in frustration as he grabbed his PET and clambered down the stairs.

Ivana looked up as one of her subordinates set something on her desk. “Last night there was an anomaly in the sleep patterns of the Hikari kid that’s wearing the neural bands,” he said, pointing to the top paper where a line jumped messily all over a grid. She looked down at it and sighed. “Miss?”
“Leave it,” she said, motioning for him to drop the papers on her desk. “I’ll deal with it in a moment.” She massaged her forehead with her knuckles and groaned. Of course it wasn’t that easy, but now she was looking at not only keeping Rockman under wraps but the human child as well. Together they were a danger but…he was so young…
She gritted her teeth and glared at the papers. Still, something had to be done.
~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~
Forte scanned the data gathered from Sci-Labs and smirked. So, this was how they did it. How…intriguing. He then looked at the latest data from Rockman’s stasis chamber to see that not only had he somehow raised above the baseline but the program inside was actually active.
In a stasis chamber.
Even more intriguing, he thought. Maybe getting involved would not only give him back his greatest adversary but also answer some questions he had been pondering about the blue navi and his operator for years. He grinned and vanished back into the Undernet. Maybe this was the opportunity he had been waiting for to answer some of his own questions.
All he knew was he wasn’t going to leave this alone anymore.

Saito is active in a stasis chamber, even I'm intrigued, care to explain that in the next chapter. *waits patiently*

You know, you really didn't have to do this for my sake--we're all busy, and I'm sure it must have been a bit of a hassle...but thank you nevertheless. It's been far too long since things like this have happened, and it's good once in a while to return to the old days, if even for a moment.
I almost forgot that I was in this fan universe, and I nearly forgot about the story, but a quick read and I was immersed yet again into the world of the characters. And what a world it is--one so touching, so sweet, such a microcosm of cute in a dangerous and volatile world--and it didn't fail to put a big grin on my face. I can't say anything bad about this conceptually--it worked out so well and gave the readers a glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak situation--and it was done just as well as you did some years ago when the plot was first conceived. Maybe even better than when the plot was first conceived.
Really, thank you so much for this. I don't think I did anything to merit this, but it was still a good read for me in my grueling life. Cheers to you! _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! I must say, I am really impressed by this story. I was supposed to get ready to hang out with some friends for a bit and instead, I sat and read this. Looking at the post dates, I see this has been updated in fits and starts.
Please Neko, continue this wonderful story! Not to sound annoying but I really do need to know what happens next. This is the best Rockman.EXE fanfic I have read in awhile, aside from Rockman.EXE, the College Years [and a few others]. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :
