Rewatching R.EXE the first season is really weird if you have been stuck watching stuff like Beast for a long time, like me. The first season is really classic. Comparable with watching the first episode of Pokemon and then pop in the newest.
I also remember watching the first ep on Dutch television and even being able to recite the Dutch text XD What I find so interesting is that while watching THIS, in all its simpleness regarding storyline and characters, you would never expect it to grow into a complex web as it does in later seasons.
My fav scene is when Netto wakes up, falls out of bed and meets Rock for the first time ^^ _________________

The first episode really made me remember why I loved it. Early on, series always seem so much better. It might be that the direction is intact, or that the characters are so young and in need of improvement. It might be that before Netto got a custom navi, he was still strong in his own right. I don't know.
Also, haha Dekao and his scooter. I forgot that the kids had their little toys. Meiru on her scooter, Netto with his skates... so sad that they replaced it with the 'I'll pick you up and take you there' rides later on...
I like the foreshadowing they did in this episode. The World Three seemed so much darker when we only knew about Hinoken and Wily. They weren't reduced to Team Rocket fused with a Cyberman. ((Delete! Delete! Doctor Who fans should get this).
I can't wait for the next episode, and the appearance of the Count! I wonder what foreshadowing we'll see next. _________________

Oh yeah. Most of the villains of later seasons suffered either Team Rocket syndrome or became Monsters-of-the-Week (which I suppose isn't all that surprising when you consider the show stopped being about Navis and became Power Rangers Cyberworld). Episode 4 will really punctuate this point, with a style of villain characters that they should've KEPT instead of fall back into cliche. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

Yeah, those were Miyuki's names. And how long could any villains keep up the evil-ness? Have any of them really done that? |

I did kind of like how World Three was humanized in the second half of the first season. They really didn't become like Team Rocket in my eyes, since they weren't really evil at that point.
But after the fall of WWW and Gospel, the villains really weren't that threatening. They had no personality, I think, while it was the quirks of WWW and Gospel that made them fun to watch. _________________

There's just something that's always puzzled me about the first episode... when Netto walks down the flight of stairs when his mom calls him (or screams, rather), he doesn't even notice the fire until she points it out to him. -_- You would have thought he would have seen it right when he walked down, or somethin'... _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

For some reason I loved the World Three in the later episodes where they are all likable semi-good-guys. Cracked me up. I wonder what the EXE series would have been like if they had focused more on what the original was about, and kept the character interaction unique. It was a lot like a mishmash of stereotypical anime conventions in some respects later on.
One can only wonder. |

Yeah. True. And Lan is dense. Very. but he's a Shounen hero. An Idiot Savant. Dense to anything but what he's good at. Girls especially. |

I think Forrest had a bit more tact than Netto does.
Alright, I finally managed to watch the episode. Here's what I wrote down:
The voices are different. Either Dekao's voice actor was replaced later, or he hit puberty or something. O_o
Rockman sounds less obviously like a middle-aged woman in the later episodes. Usually the voice sounds like a cute little blue navi, but sometimes you hear the woman part leak through.
This must have been early on in Netto's voice actor's career. He gets a lot better later in this series and isn't as cheesy sounding. Sometimes the catch phrases he says are just so hokey. XD But that's what I love about Netto.
I didn't notice the music and languge as much when I first watched these. Of course, usually I didn't have the sound on, but mostly it's because I'm used to the music now and have picked up a bit of Japanese over the years of trying to get the occasional episode on bittorrent. (with no internet to speak of) I can recognize when short phrases were translated into English idioms instead of staying with the Japanese meaning. XD
So the intro to the series must not come till the second episode?
Haha, when Gutsman is asking Meiru for a date: "Ok da?" Funny how little english words have been adopted in Japan's culture.
Did Haruka and Roll's voices sound extra high-pitched to anyone?
Hino Ken: "Derrrreto." Nice rolling of the L there. Maybe he was supposed to be Scottish in the Japanese version too...
Gee I pay a LOT more attention to language now.
Later in this season and the sequels, they kind of get away from the cyber setting. Roll used that projected interface probably three times in that episode, but I don't remember seeing it again until the occasional usage of the stationary ones in Axess' PETs.
Does that say, "Rockman danege?" O_o
I don't think Masa-san was running off there because they had Commander Beef in mind... It wasn't sudden enough.
Overall, a very good intro to the series. Made me feel very nostalgic, and I was interested to see all the little things I noticed. Things weren't quite settled yet, and the staff was trying to find niches for everything. Reminds me why I love this series so much. Everything was just so great...
There were a few other hundred things that I forgot to write down, but likely you all thought them too, so... :3
Oh yea... Rockman = da bomb. So is his theme song.
BEEEEEEF! (Man that's epic) |

No, Shounen Idiot Savants are different. But you're close. His thing was mostly running. |

I'd probably get timezones mixed up so wouldn't go on IRC at the right time, so whatever you decide is great. XD
Shouldn't we start a new thread for each episode? This could get potentially confusing. |

Ditto. I'm still waiting on my new HDD but there's no mail on Sunday unfortunately, so I won't be able to go on IRC this time. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Feel free to make a new thread for each episode. :)
Once my life settles down a little (still in the middle of moving) I plan to participate too. ^_^ Ahh, it's been so long since I watched the first episode. _________________ "Cats are interesting. *comes in really late to the party*
sheesh, essays always hinder the watching of RockMan.EXE episodes...*off topic*
Anyway, it's great how RockMan basically nags Netto to get out of bed, and they have just met (or did they? XD) and then he falls out of bed. Ouchies O_O. Kind of scary how World Three is trying to take over the world immediately, and Wily seems very bent on revenge (VERY!)
Anyone else find it amusing that Match says things like "I'll wager a cart full of kilts on it"
XD. This is part of the reason why i like the dub as well as the sub (watched both).
I'm trying to make an AMV of this episode ^_^. _________________
