Alright, I figured this might be the right forum for this, but if not, I won't feel bad if it gets moved.
So, as a kind of spur of the moment kind of thing, I have decided to attempt to create Luna's Hair ribbon; an actual sized one. I had actually been thinking about it for a while, making one, but I didn't think I had the skill to actually be able to pull it off. But, now that I've learned how to work with wood from school, and how to draft out plans for woodworking, I've decided to give it a go. =)
Basically, this thread will just be a place to show how the process is going over time. This will just be a small little "hobby project" while I'm at school to work on in my free time because, quite honestly, I feel that I need it. XD I know this isn't anything big, like a full on cosplay, I mean, it's just her bow, after all. But, I thought maybe some people might take some interest in it. If you do, great! If not, that's fine. =) I'd love to be able to hear any suggestions, comments, or what have you about it. If this turns out well enough, I may give other items a try, who knows?
Anyway, onto the actual project! I decided to start on it this afternoon, and this is the end result of a few hour's of work:
The layout plan of the bow probably took about a hour to finalize. It's approximately 5 1/2 inches wide, and 4 inches tall. I am using 1/2 inch pine wood molding for this, so, of course, it is 1/2 an inch thick. It was kind of hard to tell just how big her bow really is, so I just measured the top of my head, compared the size of Luna's bow to how it was on her head, and just went from there. I used this as my reference:
Unfortunately, my school's woodshop was closed due to rain, so I couldn't cut the wood pieces with an electric saw... I cut them all by hand. XD You can image just how long that took me... But yeah, I'd say things are going pretty smoothly so far. =) All the wood pieces have been measure out, they just need to be cut out. Nothing has been glued yet; I want to make sure everything fits together well before I do that. _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

Yeah, haha, her bow is kinda funny.
How are you going to anchor it down anyway? I know the power of magic in anime keeps it on Luna, but in real life there is no such thing. _________________

LoL, Well, I wasn't really planning on wearing it, (could be fun though) but if I ever do decide to, I actually have some flexable headbands, so I could glue one of them to the very bottom part of the bow so it fits on a head. Other than that though, I'm not sure how else I could anchor it... _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

Update! About time, if you ask me. XD I was able to cut out 6 new pieces for the bow, so now all of the top half is completely done.
For some reason, though, I lost the other piece of wood that had the rest of the pieces marked on it, so now I'll just have make some new ones. Not really that big of a deal though. I have about 7 feet of wood left... >>

Hm, so far, I'd saw it's taken me about 3 hours. It wouldn't have taken so long if I had used an electric saw to cut it, but I choose to hand cut my pieces (mostly just due to my lazies of having to walk down to the wood shop at school). _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

Cool. So you're a good amount of the way done then? Can't wait to see it. |
