I know this is way past EXE's prime and all said episodes have finished airing years ago, but I've been wondering; has anyone been able to find episodes from the Chinese version of EXE online? Stream and Axess, especially?

Much obliged for any information.

EDIT: Oh, well, bugger - it's in Cantonese. But apparently there are Chinese subtitles...

EDIT2: Resolved. I just realized that there's a Cantonese version and then there's a Taiwanese version - which is just the Japanese version subtitled into Chinese. Just so this post isn't totally useless, I'm posting a link to the Chinese video site that someone uploaded all of Stream to, so if anyone else can read Chinese here, go for it /o/

No problem. /o/

I'm wrong again; there's actually a Cantonese version, a Mandarin version with subtitles, and the Japanese version subtitled into Chinese. I watched five seconds of the Cantonese one and went "...no." Mandarin was more interesting, but I hate Rockman's voice, and it's kinda jarring hearing the EXE characters talk in a language I can understand - which has even worse VA voice inflections than the English dub. I'm not going to bitch about the dub any more. D:

ANYWAY there's two users uploading Stream in the above link. xxyyzzk has the Japanese version, and if you go back a few pages, 哲林.拿铁 has the Mandarin version - both with Chinese subtitles. I recommend listening to the Mandarin one once (if you can understand it) purely for the lulz and to rage about "OMG WHY DOES ROCKMAN SOUND LIKE HE'S FIVE"

ETA: wtf why did Laika's Chinese name get translated into "Thunder Fire"? Everyone else's was just romanized! Gah!

I'll just note that the Mandarin version is in the Taiwan dialect of Mandarin - the difference between that and mainland Chinese Mandarin is kinda like the difference between American and British English, at least to my understanding. The standard voice inflections are different between the dialects, but it sounds to me like it's not too abnormal for Taiwan dialect. VAs still aren't all that good, but I think they're better than the English dub.

I also could've sworn there was another Chinese dub, in Mandarin (Taiwan dialect as well) with subtitles in Traditional Chinese. It was on TV in Taiwan a few years ago when I was there. I've only seen it up through part of Axess, but I do know they finished Stream. I do remember the voice acting being considerably better in that version.

And personally, I think Rockman sounding like he's five is at least better than sounding like something closer to a surfer dude in the English dub. Still sounds kinda awkward, though.

Two Mandarin dubs? And a Cantonese one? And original Japanese-subbed-Chinese? Bugger the US and WB.

Although, I'm not that annoyed by the English dub's VAs any more. Playing BN5 Double Team helped, if only because I got used to having Megaman's English "Good work!" beaten into my head every time after a battle. The downside is, I've started thinking of Lan and Megaman as entirely separate characters from Netto and Rockman D: AND IT DIDN'T HELP EITHER THAT THE CHARACTER PORTRAYAL AND THE LOCALIZATION IN 5 SUCKED SPHERES.

But I'm just not fond of Rockman talking like a small child, period, when he's definitely more mature than Netto. It makes him seem like a cute pet of sorts that Netto has to look after, and you know that's just wrong in all ways ever. I think it's a peeve of mine from previously watching Chinese animated shows, when the child-character generally got the "oh, you're so widdle and kyoooot and let me humor you when you do silly things" treatment. Anyway, just so I'm not completely hatin', I thought Netto's voice was fine for an action-hero Chinese kid. Laika, meanwhile...I just lol'd. He actually sounds nerdy. But it's a nice sort of nerdy, not the "WTF FANGIRL RAGE"-inducing sort D:

I wonder where I'd be able to confirm the "two Mandarin versions", though...

Lulz is right. Shocked

This dub reminded me of that stupid idea for a project--taking a bunch of episodes and cutting out parts of the music where there isn't any talking or sound effects, then trying to put them back together to make a soundtrack for the later series. Would be a massive headache on par with dubbing a whole season, but it's still an idea...

I'll have to listen to these episodes more closely later, when I can have my sound turned up. I only heard a few phrases before I started getting weird looks.

What I heard sounded almost like a computer-synthesized voice. O_o

Update: I've tracked down the aforementioned other Taiwan dub, sorta. No videos online, but I've found out that the dubbing group is named MUSE.

Their homepage link: http://www.e-muse.com.tw/ (Fair warning: On some pages, they have trailers that start playing automatically, so don't open it in class/at work/etc. without turning your sound off first.)
And their pages for the EXE seasons they dubbed: (No autoplay trailers here, as far as I know)
EXE: http://www.e-muse.com.tw/property/rockman/introduction/2004/index.html
Axess: http://www.e-muse.com.tw/property/rockman/introduction/2006/index.html

Cantonese dub is a sh*t. Even though I bought the Taiwanese version of Rockman Stream DVDs, I never watch them with Cantonese dub. When I watched episode 10 with that dub, it was enough.
