I'd like to get ya'll's opinions on this matter. We are currently working with encoding the DVDs for Beast+ in preparation of releasing those fansubs, and now we have more options for high quality. We definitely plan to release in MKV, which will be beautiful lossless quality, just as if you are watching the DVD directly.
However, would you guys still like to have an AVI release? Mind you, it may mean a bit longer time inbetween releases to do so, but if you all want it, we will surely do it. Please answer the poll or leave your comments. :) _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. I voted for MKV, and i'd add with .ass subs, not hardcoded one.
for the codec, may I suggest x264+aac?
my 2 cents ^_^ _________________ Sardinia is not Italy!

Really I'd prefer PS3/360 compatible x264 MP4's, but thats just me . MKV's are fine. _________________ "You gotta know when to hold'em; know when to fold'em; know when to walk away; know when to run.~" |

Why would it make release time longer? |

Because the encoder would have to make two different files. _________________ "You gotta know when to hold'em; know when to fold'em; know when to walk away; know when to run.~" |

Which also means two files have to have final quality checks as well to make sure there's no glitches... _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

I liked AVI myself, I know MKV is a high res, but if I can burn it to DVD format, I got no problem. Just love to see more releases from Puku and WPP, but I understand life outside of fansubbing, so no stress! _________________ -Follow me on Twitch.tv-

Actually I think we're going to lean towards MP4 instead of MKV, simply so others can play them on their 360s and PS3s. :3 _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

Well, maybe. XD We're having sound timing issues with MP4, and if it can't be solved, we'll have to go with MKV. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

Doesn't seem like that would delay by any noteworthy stretch. Nor does watching the episode twice through.
If nothing else, a release in some lossless codec can later be converted by others. |

AVI should work on a XBOX 360, just up them to a Flash Drive and you can watch them off of there. Not sure about PS3. If so, you can always encode them using PSP Video 9. _________________ -Follow me on Twitch.tv-

Yeah, XviD AVI's work no problem on PS3's & 360's, but we wanted something higher quality . _________________ "You gotta know when to hold'em; know when to fold'em; know when to walk away; know when to run.~" |

It looks like Puku's side will be encoding solely in MKV. If Wolfpack Productions choses to release an AVI version then they're completely free to.
I have the first episode completed in my hands, and it looks beautiful. :) _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

saito-kun is right.
not only once you choose to release in mkv you won't need to release the episode twice (mkv and avi), but encoding in mkv, if ffmpeg is set correctly, is faster than divx, even with x264+aac codecs ^_^ _________________ Sardinia is not Italy!

Oh, encoding in MKV is remarkably faster. We can encode an entire episode in like... 6 minutes. AVI formats take far longer to work with.
Episode 25 of Beast has finally passed the quality check stage! Episode 24 is fully ready and in distro, 23 had to have one typo fixed that we initially missed. I am pushing the best I can to have these last 3 episodes released asap. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. Encoding in 6 minutes?!!! 6 MINUTES?!! You'll have these first 10 subs out in a day! How fast do you guys think I can edit the remaining 16 episodes?!
LOL, I'm gonna be worked to death this month...pray for my soul. _________________ Avatar art thanks to toberboobap, animated gif thanks to Dr. Wily II

lol, I'm sorry. XD But I'm very excited that we will be able to release Beast+ far more quickly than we went with Beast.
Once Beast+ is done and over with, we'll be moving on to help out WPP with Axess, hopefully. Though WPP will still be handling the majority of it... in comparison to Beast+, where Puku is handling most of the production. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls.
