See the full story here / http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/29/keiji-inafune-leaves-capcom /.

I know Keiji has been making pretty dour comments about game development in Japan but geez ... I sure wasn't expecting this. With every Mega Man game, he has a hand in it somehow so I am wondering what is to be the future of the Mega Man franchise.

What do you guys think?

First reaction was "Whoa, this is really really weird". Because it is. It's just strange.

Second is that he surely won't leave game development. He'll get back in on it.

Right?

...Right?

... okay, I haven't posted anything for a good month or so, but I gotta say... what? I mean, by God, really? I know he has being criticizing the Japanese gaming industry and all, but I wouldn't have guess that he'd leave his job. (Granted, that's probably not the only reason he left. There are probably others that other people will com up with.)

Big question that me and a friend of mine have: What does this mean for Legends 3? We're hoping that Capcom will go on with it anyways, but... well, this doesn't look good. o_o;

They've stated that it and other Capcom properties will continue as normal. It's not like Inafune makes the games single-handedly. Razz

He's been saying for a while that he hates his job. Guess he meant it.

Oh boy. ...Hopefully, these won't end up like Sonic games. But they say Legends 3 will still go on. Because it better. Or else they'll get a riot.

@Saito-kun: Oh! Okay. ^^; Heh, I forget that, in the end, stuff like video games belong to companies and groups, not individuals. ^^;

Anyways, good luck to Inafune on whatever he decides to do now. Legends 3 is going to go on without him, so eh... at least he got to leave the job he hated. :/

He hated how it worked. I think he may like the job if it's done in a different way.

I'm scared to see it without Inafune considering what we got with X6 & X7, but then again that was years ago......still I feel like after Universe & Legends 3 they will put the series on a backburner.

Megaman is one of Capcom's cash cows. They won't kill it.

To be completely honest, though I'd rather he didn't hate his job and I'd rather he didn't leave, I'm kind of interested in what direction the series will take. If a new one at all, because he may not have been all that integral to what made Megaman Megaman.

Yeah well, the same-ness of how the industry works sometimes might make almost anyone not like it. It may be worse in the US but I just don't know much about Japan's game industry.

I think we'll see Inafune back in the game-making game. I'm excited to see what he does, actually.

Ah, I was about to post a link to that. I just got done reading the whole thing and whew, what an interview!

This was a very informative look at how the gaming industry is in Japan and why the Tokyo Game Show sucks so bad now. IMO, TGS stopped being great when we didn't get anymore of those Rockman EXE TGS remixes[I still love the TGS Rockman Theme and the Navi Customizer Free Mode remixes from the first MMBN OST, friggin' excellent].

However, I was really struck by something Inafune kept saying throughout the interview ... he really wants to save Capcom and make it a better company. It reminded me a bit of Steve Jobs and Apple [of course, Inafune *quit* while Jobs was *fired*]. Steve was gone for awhile, created some great companies, and then came back to Apple and the rest is history. It is certainly too early to say but I am hoping for a similar revitalization for Capcom because when that happens, the game industry as a whole will be kickass awesome for the rest of us, the gamers and consumers [like, Apple's iPhone and the rest of the mobile handset world].

It is really too bad that he couldn't take his Rockman brand with him since that is copyrighted to Capcom but I am really looking forward to see what he comes up with in his own company. Whether it will be a success or a failure remains to be seen but it will definitely be superb.

Oh dude, I want these in my iTunes. Is there a place to download them or do I have to crack out the youtube downloader?

EDIT: Oh, is it from an OST CD? Didn't realize there was one.
