Time for another pointless thread about impossible tasks for the dying community! :D
So, I was looking at the 3D model of Aero for MML3 today and feeling super depressed that BN5 3D never made it.
Stupidsperation struck. (No, that has nothing to do with perspiration.) What if we started working NOW on some kind of way to gather attention toward the fanbase's desire for a new EXE game? We could get the idea off the ground and see if we can get any momentum in time for the completion of MML3 (which is prime time for starting a new BN... ;o). I don't mean just a petition to get lost in all the other petitions. I mean something attention grabbing. Like, we could have a fanart drive, a fanfic drive, maybe those petition signatures even, and other creative things.
Heck, I'd pitch in money to buy the EXE OCW as a prize for some contests to garner interest if others were on board.
I know it seems kind of stupid, but if REO backs it once Ryou gets a scheduling break, and Wibby's site backs it, and we get PRC and TMMN to advertise it, who knows?
I've been thinking about starting a fansite of some sort, so I could even make it centered around this idea.
What do you say? Dumb? :D |

Well, my initial idea to create more "buzz"for EXE was to create a Net Navi creation game (I originally wanted to keep it a secret until I had something to actually show off from it, but I figured I might as well spill it while people are trying to come up with some ideas in the forum right now.). This "game" would act just like a Flash dress-up doll game, only the user would be dressing up/creating their own NetNavi instead of an existing character.
I do admit though, I have been working on it during my Winter break, but it is taking quite some time. I only have a little bit of the female version of the base done (the bases are the most important part, so they have to look right), and I can't start on any clothing or accessories until those are done...
But yeah, that's my idea that I'm currently working, as slow as it may be going. Not sure if you or other people like the idea, but it is something I know I personally do enjoy. lol As for community based effort, I was thinking of having other people submitting in 'item' ideas to put into the game. Not sure how well that would work out, though.
I do like the idea of a kind of community based effort though in getting interest back into the series. I think a lot of people enjoy contests (I know I do), so I do like that idea. I also like that 'drive' idea thing. Wouldn't have to make it into a contest, although I know it would generate a lot more interest with prizes. People like winning stuff, that's for sure. _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

That ... that was actually an idea I had too! I called, the "NetNavi Creator" [ not very original name, I know ] and I was going to have the basic models of the generic NetNavis in the game as bases to work off of.
Of course, I became busy with other things. *sigh* _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

One of many things we could use. Navi creator sounds great!
I worked a little bit on a simple site. There's nothing on it, but at least I can make a semblance of something useful if the need should arise.
I wonder if I should share it. I don't really have a host yet, because if I use the usual free one, I probably won't be able to use PHP scripts. |

Forgot to share this, didn't I?
http://exenet.hostwebs.com/
I'm actually not so happy with anything but the logo, now that I've come back to look at it. And the host isn't the best.
But it's a start!
I really want to do this. We should work together. I'm having EXE withdrawal. |

"Unfortunately, due to legal reasons, artists may NOT use characters from the Mega Man Battle Network, or Mega Man Star Force series."
Dumb. There was some really cool stuff coming out of that tribute drive. But none of it was EXE, obviously. If only there were some super awesome motivator to get professionalish art people interested in an EXE fan art drive.
Someone help me brainstorm? :D Purtuh please? |

So far, that site you linked isn't bad. And sucks about that Tribute. Legal reasons are difficult. |

Y'know, it might be worth it to just put out a call to get an EXE/RnR art drive rolling anyway. Sure, it might not be something that'd end up leading to an art book, but it's still something that would probably interest the franchise community as a whole.
As for the legal issues, it's probably something related to those particular parts of the franchise and associated licensing. Dumb, yes, but UDON's hands are most likely tied on the matter - at least for the time being. _________________ Busily plotting for Otakon 2011... here's to hoping I don't leave my cameras behind this year.

I would like to go ahead and get one going! But I want to make sure it gets enough attention to draw great artists (which probably means prizes--best I can do is OCW, but that's not out yet). If I'm going to work to get attention, I should probably have the site's goal clear for any people who pass by and might want to join the idea. :D
I redid what I had today. Let me know what you guys think! http://exenet.hostwebs.com/ |

Nope, it was just graphical work.
I don't think I'll be doing anything super complicated. Probably all manual updating (old fashioned, I know). I don't know if the host supports PHP, but if I had to guess, I'd say no. If it does though, I'll probably put up a coppermine gallery for fan art and contest entry stuff.
The about page will be simple HTML, and a petition could be external.
I wish things didn't cost money. XD |

Okay, I've updated the site a little more.
I've realized that my current system of updating manually may not work in the long run, but it's working for now. And I only know so much HTML. XD
Stuff I'd like to eventually have:
- Wiki for people to share ideas for BN7
- Photo gallery for fan art
- Petition for people to sign
- Contest page(s)
- Place for fanfics (Suggestions appreciated--should I just link to fanfiction.net stories? For that matter, should the entire site just be a place to pull links together from people who support it?)
- Whatever else people want to submit to support the idea. (NAVI MAKER, HINT HINT)
Anyone out there? :D |

If you made the whole site just a place for links, Google wouldn't give you good results. They call it a content farm and they're dropping them down the list. Just fics maybe. |

Hmm, thanks for the info.
I thought about just installing phpbb, but I doubt the host would let me and I kind of wanted the site to be more centralized and "presentable." Perhaps for just fics and game idea suggestions.
Guess I need to shop around for a more flexible free host. All I use are paid hosts, and I don't want to sink money into this until it gets going. Any advice? |

If you do decide to go with (implement first!) a photo gallery, I could do some advertising on several dA EXE art communities for you. A contest would be interesting, but it seems you should probably leave that off until you have a good idea of how much attention you'd get for it, or have a way to ensure you get more publicity.
I would advise you to advertise on more sites, just to get feedback and maybe interest - Rockman.EXE Zone, for one, seems to be a more active game-related forum which might have ideas. And once you've gotten a little more content up on the site, Protodude's Corner might be willing to put out a notice about your efforts. But in general more content to show off would be helpful.
I...have programming experience and may be willing to help, given classes not sucking and some free time, and Navi Maker would be an interesting app to write. But I have to ask - how much control do you have over your site's code? If the webhost won't allow you to upload CSS, Javascript, or flash apps, you're kind of screwed on that. |

I do plan to share it at lots of Megaman fan sites. Thanks for the dA offer!
I looked at coppermine, and it seems it's an external gallery. Apparently you have to make it look like your site, rather than plugging it in. I don't particularly want to do that, so... Anyone know of any other good photo gallery packages?
What I have so far already includes CSS (though internal), and I doubt they would keep me from using javascript. I'm using an option that forces me to upload my own html files via ftp. I just don't know if it supports php. Guess I have no reason to believe it doesn't... I can always switch hosts if I need to though! :D |

I've been using Webs for hosting this site. They have two options: Upload your own html or use their site builder. Right now I'm using custom html, but I was messing with the site builder on an old account and it has a photo gallery plugin we could use for fan art, a forum plugin we could use for fan fics, a wiki plugin we could use for game ideas, a blog plugin, and a guestbook plugin we could use for the petition (if that's good enough).
The problem is that it wouldn't be as customizable. And I like the Chibi Commander Beef and Netto I put up on the other one. XD
Have a look: http://exenetcenter.webs.com/
EDIT: Found what seems to be a workable fanart gallery and put it up at the original URL. I'd still love any ideas and help anyone wants to pitch in. We need a good group project.
