Blurgh, I feel bad triple posting, but just wanted to share that Protodude liked the effort and wants to squeeze it in with one of his BN posts he plans on doing this week.

Is eeenyone interested in the idea? Laughing

Gah.

So I would normally be the first to volunteer for any effort to rejuvenate EXE. But...I'm in university, and a particularly masochistic one at that, and I can't promise that I'll have much time to work on anything relating to the effort.

What parts of the site are you working on at the moment, though? And what sorts of posts is Protodude thinking of doing?

I understand that; I'm in the same situation. I appreciate the thought though! XD

Not sure what Protodude's going to post, but I think I might just be getting a little aside in one of them. Which is fine by me, since there isn't much to write about yet.

I just got a fan art gallery up that should do. I'm thinking I might just put up a guestbook/comments page for a petition, but I'd hate to have to moderate it when it's inevitably used otherwise, and I don't really want to use an external petition site.

Do you think I should stick with the custom coded site or do the other one?

Okay, sorry for being so late to respond.

Site-wise: go with whatever one you can get up and running in the least amount of time. For a project that's just starting, you don't need to be bogged down in the initial details of making everything look absolutely perfect - go with what works, and when it starts getting off the ground, then improve what needs to be improved. In your case, I think that means you should go with the site with existing forums, fanart, whatnot - it'd be less work for you. Unless by now you've already improved your more customizable site to have a similar degree of functionality, in which case ignore me.

With that said; what would you like next on the site besides the basics - art, wiki, forums, petition - ? And how do you intend to gain further attention and publicity for things? I don't think Protodude has written about the effort yet, insofar as I can't find anything on his site about it, but that does give you more time to improve the site's functionality and possibly add more things to look at.

I think he forgot about it.

I'd still like to do this, but I don't want to do it alone. It might be a silly expectation--to think people will hop on without me showing something phenomenal--but I've lost steam.

I'd like to work on the site and graphics and stuff and have other people be the "faces". Does that make sense? O_o

That sounds reasonable, I think. Not wanting to be constantly publicizing and trying to think of ways to attract attention - that's understandable, as long as you aren't relying entirely on other people to do your work for you and you're still pulling along.

What might help you get more people interested in the idea, however, would be a firm outline of what projects you need to be worked on, what you'd be interested in getting other people together to do, and basically, HOW other people could contribute to the effort and help you publicize. People will be more likely to get involved if they have a good idea of what needs to be done, not only be left to their own devices - without direction, people and projects drift apart. I'm sure you know this by now. So if you want to continue the effort towards getting EXE7 out, you should try to figure out what sorts of publicity events and functions you want to work towards, and then find people willing to help with those events.

As an example - I have been considering the possibility of starting an art contest of my own, with a sculpture or two as a prize - something along the lines of the old "Navi design contests" perhaps. It is not much at the moment, and probably won't get off the ground for some time (school and other commissions), but it IS something concrete I can work off of. What sorts of events might you be interested in beginning?

I have no intention of abandoning it if I get people on board, but it would be nice that if I were to have a sudden tragic aneurysm or something, it would still go on without me. (Believe me, I know the drifting team thing. Too well. Rolling Eyes)

You wouldn't mind tying your contest to the EXE7 efforts, would you? It would still be completely your contest, but done under the banner of support for EXE7. That was one thing I considered--simply having people do their normal things but with a little reminder of support for EXE7, and then compile those places at the site. Trouble is, those "normal things" aren't so common these days.

I'll think on some solid plans, but I think the best thing to do is just kick off with a contest. Too late to think up details tonight. Tomorrow!

EDIT: Way past tomorrow, haha! Still want to do this. Got caught up in work and school stuff. But summer is coming, which means projects!

Wanted to edit my post to share this link: http://www.capcom-unity.com/gregaman/blog/2011/05/18/ten_years_of_battle_network:_questions_answered?pg=2 to be discussed when my next new post bumps the topic. My favorite question?
Quote:
Q: (Suraida-chan) Even with the ending at MMBN6, did you guys still wish you could continue on with the series? After all there's still plenty of Robot Masters that have yet to have navi versions.

A: (Eguchi) Of course I wish we could continue! Of course, if we ever do have the opportunity to make a sequel, technology and times have changed, so it would probably be more of a new, evolved property than a direct sequel. As for now, we’re hard at work on Legends 3!

If they got the green light, they'd want to do it, and evolve the series a bit. I might be kinda stoked that there's at least a 2% possibility of a new sequel in the future.

Alright, time for more blabbing from me.

I think the best way to get things started is to have a fan art drive/contest, fan fiction drive/contest, or both. I'm willing to pay for a copy (maybe even two, if interest is high enough) of the OCW to give away as a prize. I wonder if anyone else would be interested in pitching in too. Any EXE related doodad sitting around, or a spare game to donate?

We'd need judges and a couple of word-spreaders. Anybody want to pitch in there?
