One thing always bothered me, how and why did Pokemon manage to Pokemon manage to outlast this series and any other series? The games themseleves aren't that bad but I was kind of expecting some more out of it and I was kind of expecting some more improvement, not just more restrictions. Why did Pokemon end up more successful in the regards to the sales and the Nintendo systems they had? Did sequelitis get the better of the EXE series?

Pokemon is such an oddball. It might have just done too many things right. Also, I think since it was such a runaway hit (one of the first of its kind), it stole the largest place in everyone's hearts when they were children. It's hard to dethrone a demi-god like that, so the true downfalls of sequelitis are more visible in the would-be usurpers. Cool

EXE's sequels didn't keep enough people interested. Nintendo Power's review of 6 didn't exactly put it in a good light, but I loved 6. They could make 7 the same way they made the others and some of us (me included) would snatch it up. But it could do with a refresh to make others want it back.

There is certainly a point where you could argue it caught sequelitis. EXE 4 is a big example.

A lot of the richness of the story kind of vanished in EXE 4 and EXE 5 (EXE 4 especially). EXE 6 does a better job at revitalizing it by putting very little story difference between the two games. It also did a better job integrating the story from the previous games in.

The main difference between Pokemon and most other games with sequels and spin offs is the development time though. Pokemon gets a couple years to develop and refine it while a lot of the Rockman, EXE included, games only had 1. If there was a larger gap, there'd be more time for development and anticipation. Look at Legends 3 and Megaman 9.

Also, reminds me.

I wish they'd stuck with the one version thing. The two version thing just irritated me and fueled the speculation that the series was cashing in on the pokemon crowd (which it probably was, but still).

That's what also bothered me too. The thing about Pokemon while it had two versions, it was mostly the same game but with different Pokemon as well as other different. Also, there was a of diversity between the Pokemon themselves, the Navis EXE5 and 6 play almost to similar to Rockman/Megaman except with different charged shots and you couldn't even customize them either. If they had stuck with one version and put all the Navis they needed while refining and retuning the battle system to make it more fun, I bet we would had an MMBN 10 on 3DS right now.

pokemon has such a huge fan base that it will take a few more years for it to die down. there is still great demand for the games and i admit that they are killing it now and the number of pokemon that look like real ones are diminishing with each new generation, but it's been here for over a decade, almost 15 years and still strong. i think exe had a poor timing coming into the us. at least within my area at the time, pokemon was the most powerful and strongest around season ten and exe did have similarities, at least in the game terms...andwhich that has already been stated.
