|
|
Let me just preface this: I woke up this morning with a hankerin' for some EXE and a ton more nostalgia than usual, and I've resolved to stop simply bemoaning the end of the series. It is time for some goshdarned action and speculation on the internets! And if I come off as a rabid fanboi, I'll feel ashamed about it later.
Onto the specs!
I think Capcom would do darned well to consider the 3DS for an updated revival of Battle Network. Why? User interaction and immersion. The series has always tied in rather closely to the real world's developments in technology, and the parallels between PETs and smartphones are so close that if someone just invented strong AI we would be good to go.
So now that the majority of gamers know how to interact with touchscreens and customize their own games/avatars/desktops however they want, why not make that a game mechanic in a new EXE game with a more interactive Rockman, or even other Navis? All Rockman series have been customizable to some extent, but EXE is the one that would benefit most due to improved immersion with the game universe - the player may actually feel like an Operator if he/she could interact more closely with Rockman, allowing the 3DS to simulate a PET. BN5 Double Team did this to a very limited extent, but it was enough to keep me interested in replaying that game, and I feel that this direction would actually help attract more fans to the series, not only appeal to older ones.
I am almost *certainly* ignoring the fact that this series has not been alive for at least five years, but the game developer side of me could at least hope. It's such a fitting world and story that it would be a complete shame if Capcom didn't at least try to capitalize on it.
Your suggestions too! What would you like to see, if the EXE series were brought to 3DS? |

Well, 3D, obviously. And I mean 3D. Like, a step above the 3D BN5 prototype.
I dunno if I want BN7 or a new BN1. I dunno if I want Netto or Raito. I don't really care. I'll leave that up to the designers. I just want EXE 3DS. XD
I also think Capcom would do well to capitalize on the realisticy-ness of the Battle Network world. It's so cool, and yet so... feasible. |

I'd personally like to see something similar to EXE4.5 on the 3DS; the player is the operator, the 3DS acts as the PET, and you get to build your own navi/pick a premade navi. Battles could be online, or right in front of you, similar to how Pokemon and StarForce works (as well as a lot of online games right now). Not really an MMO, though, it could have it's own storyline, as well. I think it could be pretty neat to have the main characters in EXE be there still, and the player gets to meet them, battle them, and go on adventures with them and what not; like a role playing game or choose your own adventure game.
And to make it marketable for a long time, they could have a separate online shop of some sorts where you can buy upgrades for your navi/pet/secret areas.
I dunno, that's just me. I think it would be cool... _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

I agree with LinkFreak. That was pretty much what I was thinking. It's how they do Yugioh games with plots. |
