Well, hello!
Long time I posted something ^_^

Rant about my absence
Quote:
Sooo... as someone remembers, I had to close my previously gallery Crying or Very sad
Although I said I could concentrate on more difficult things, I decided that my 3D skills were quite crappy; moreover, I had no place where I could store my pics because after that episode I couldn't trust pics hosters anymore Neutral

Time passed, I got a work, I left the work, I signed up University and I totally forgot about doing 3D training (d'oh...)

Recently, however, I've participated to a so-called LinuxDay, where I've done a couple of 3D works from the megaman universe, to be precise, Z-Saber and Colonel's Sword (which, if I do recall correctly, I sent to Mistress as reference).
Sadly, I've noticed my skills had not improved at all, as I took the whole day to complete the works Shocked
For this reason, I've decided to let 3D apart for a while and to learn how to do SVG conversions (see next block for infos)

Moreover, now I have my personal web-space where I could drop my artworks! Wink (actually, is a sub domain on my father's site Rolling Eyes )

What SVGs are?
Quote:
Most people knows that a digital image, like a .png or a jpg is made of pixels. That is called a "raster image".
However, such a method has a problem: higher the zoom, bigger the pixels Mad

SVGs, instead, are not a bunch of pixels: they are math as images Shocked
While thay still have a resolution, like every image, this information is used only for letting you have a 100% zoom view.
Moreover, even when you zoom to ridiculous levels, like 256000%, you'll never end up viewing a confused bunch of obese squares! Laughing
For that reason, this kind of images are called vectorial images, as every item behaves like a plot on a graph, with infinite values between two points.

This way, you could draw your image in SVG and then save it as a raster image of any size you like without having quality loss at all Smile

Side note: this technique is probably the same used to do the neat cartoonish pictures you find in the artbooks! Wink

How do I work:
Quote:
Since I only use Linux on my PC, I use Inkscape in order to draw my artworks.
It has almost all the tools you could find on a professional program, but it has more advantages:
It's free: so I don't need any crack to make it work
It's OpenSource: that does mean that if I find a bug or I don't trust the author, I could check the code for issues.

In order to make the conversion, I import the original raster image, then I literally draw over it without any script, just the built-in tools, obtaining at the end a perfect copy of the picture. (Your mileage may vary!)

Once finished the copy, I give the image a white background, then I delete the imported picture from the file and resize the finished artwork to a decent base resolution (usually 256*256 or similar for icons, for the characters, I'll decide time by time), then I export the SVG in a PNG file with the same size in order to include it into galleries.

For the navi marks, I used these images as refrence (I'll send the whole SVG pack to the author once I find out how to contact him without registering to his board Neutral), while the navi pics are taken from there

Since navi marks are shaded, I took the "middle" color of the gradient, so that I could obtain a cartoon style (Inkscape doesn't support shaped gradients... yet)

I'll post every image I do as PNG, with a link to the vectorial version, so it's strongly advised to install Inkscape in order to have SVGs rendered correctly!

As always, any comment is very welcome!

P.S.: Since I've already finished all the 93 navi marks, I'd like to donate them to REO for the avatar section, just let me know how via PM Wink
