How is this, Saito-kun? I tried having the dividers be lower, but it looked horrid. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

I think you guys will be pleased to note that I have begun coding on the site this morning. I got a bulk of the main layout finished, which is the fastest I have ever done something from scratch.
Must be this new web design/development job I have. I'm learning all sorts of new awesome. I only mention this last part, because I am beginning to see how it might be possible to create a couple things from the BN-verse. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Hey guys! Just an update:
I have just completed an apprenticeship at thoughtbot, a web development studio in Boston. That took up all my time for the first three months of this year.
Long story short, I've gained/enhanced a good amount of skills to create not only web pages, but web apps as well. No more deadlines, I'm just going to get things done.
I hope everyone's been well! _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Hey guys, it's my birthday! More importantly, I have updates.
I've had an idea for an operating system built on web technologies like HTML/CSS/jQuery and JavaScript for the longest time...then Mozilla came out with their "B2G" (Boot 2 Gecko) project, which is basically an open-source mobile OS for smartphones that is built upon a Linux kernel. While this initially irritated me, it gave me hope as it is proof that my idea will work!
Here's what I've been working on for the past 2 weeks (I am coding this in my browser of choice, Opera, and these screens are of the browser in full-screen mode).
This is the default look at the moment. I had a marquee scrolling from left to right, like the PET does in the first season of Rockman EXE (the one that says "access"). It looked like "[time] / You have 3 unread emails / [time]". I found it distracting though, so I disabled it.
The sidebar is an app launcher that slides out when the mouse is hovered over the tall vertical bar. Obviously inspired by Windows 8 a bit.
I figured out how to make the background image change! The next step is learning how to use localStorage to make the browser remember my changes.
Last, but not least, the right-click menu. None of the links do anything yet. They are based upon the right-click menu you see when using LiteStep (Windows Explorer shell replacement).
Also, when folders are minimized, they go to the taskbar at the bottom.
The end goal of this OS (which I am calling, "hikari", obviously) is to be the first *responsive* operating system. This means, able to be used on smartphones, tablets, and desktop computing systems. When Lan docks his PET to his computer, I like to imagine the PET OS is now in desktop mode. Of course, the docking station would have high(er)-end components and specs to bring out the best of the OS. In terms of hardware, I want hikari to run flawlessly on the Raspberry Pi since it is considerably weaker than most smartphones today. If it works there, it'll work anywhere.
Mozilla uses the Linux kernel to interface with hardware devices to detect wifi, volume increases, power, etc. While I would love to create a service where I could take people's Raspberry Pis and retro-fit them into a PET toy casing (the original Plug-In PET is the only one that would feasibly contain the current RasPi physical dimensions), that would outside of the range of this project at the current time. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Happy belated birthday!
You have impeccable design taste.
I love the Raspberry Pi idea. That'd be a pretty big project, though. |

Thanks guys! I know I'm crazy for trying to do this, but crazier things have been achieved, like human flight, &c.
I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I created a Twitter account for this project (https://twitter.com/TadashiHikari). I keep forgetting I have a Twitter for hikari OS and related projects, but I will try to post/update often. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Looking through my earlier posts in this thread, I realize that I've lost some Photoshop files. Good thing I posted screenshots!
Speaking of such, here are some screens of the hikari browser. I call it, "Aries":

I wish there was a way to specify width for photos. You can do so with custom BBCode, just not by default. Instead of having images that stretch the forum, I'll just have links.

What do you guys think of the logo? I also created a condensed version...

The stars symbolize that hikari means "light" in Japanese (but of course, you all know this). hikari is spelled with a lowercase "h" because it is unpretentious. It will be something you use everyday, like a stove, or remote. It is my hope that it becomes so seamless that you don't even know it's changing your life. #grandambitions _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :
