No, you see. I asked the question because that was the whole point of the topic: to have an unspecified gender icon. Would've been useless if Mari's suggestion was gone without really have a concluding "yes" or "no," right?

to say the truth i dont really see a problem with the gender icons,blue is for boys cause netto has one and pink is for girls cause meiru has one.
pretty simple.
but then again thats my opinion.

The point of the thread was that Mari doesn't think the PETs are fitting for gender symbols.

There will never be an "unspecified" image. It's unnecessary and redundant. You'll know they're "unspecified" if neither gender icon appears...

And that's good logic. Having a unspecified image may be nice, but that defeats the purpose of the gender symbols as PO stated.

Stop twisting my words, Zan-person... :<

I second PO, and that's what I've been telling Saito and Soala, it's pointless to have a gender icon for "unspecified". And also, it doesn't even appears by default, you'd have to mess with the gender mod to make it appear. And I'm sure Nobi wouldn't like to be bothered just for a silly Narcy head. :P

I like the PET sprites, I do, it's just that they're so tiny it might be hard for people to actually tell other people's gender apart unless they point their mouse to the sprite -and that is IF you have IE, 'cause if you're in Firefox, that won't work. And as many people pointed out, not everyone has a perfect eyesight. ^^;

I really liked the old gender symbols, I think it's hard to see what color the pets are. So i think that we should get the old symbols back.

Because the alt="" tag isn't ment for tooltips. A simple way of correcting it is to change it to title="Gender: Male" / title="Gender: Female", that way, it'll also work in Opera, Safari, Konqueror, Camino and what not.

...which would also imply modifying the gender mod's source code, I'm afraid.

suggestion:

Perhaps the 'female' pet could be angled down like so: |

and the male pet kept like so: /

so that they have the same general direction as the planetary gender symbols.

I use Firefox and can hover the mouse of the PETs to see which gender they're for. >_>

I will probably end up making the blue PET more blue by changing the color of those yellow stripes. As far as I can tell, the rest of the admins think the PETs are fine. If people are confused and it's that big of a deal to them, they can still see their profile (which says 'male' or 'female' in plain text).

You're right.. I should've checked the source before making my post. The Title attribute is already there..
Code:
<img src="templates/bluetabs/images/icon_minigender_male.gif" alt="Gender:Male" title="Gender:Male" border="0">

Hmmm...the cursor will tell you the gender in IE as well. Personally, I'm OK with the gender symbols for now. After all, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I am glad you decided this, because all those poor unspecifieds would be gray, as opposed to the dull blue and pink icons of the males/females. Wink

Some Cellphones with Net navigation lack of colors, apparently. And colorblind people, let's not forget about them. ^^;

Anyway, thanks for your answer, Pyo.

I'm fine with the current system, but...

Why not make the female icon this cute little icon? :D
And perhaps edit that for a Rockman version (the Kawarimi / anti-damage ones look kinda silly to me).

That icon is too adorable. :D

I'm like Hikari Angel. I only said what my gender was because of the PETs. And I love the way they are. Why do you guys still want to change them? -_-; I think they're fine. And umm... As you can see. I'm a female.. And I don't even like Pink! But.. For some Odd reason.. I love the PET! :D

The PET symbols are fine as it is...

If the gender icons would be changed, how about the icons of Rockman and Roll? There should be no difficulty on telling the two apart.
