Whoppee!! Namco of America became smarter =D! Tales of Legendia was announced to be released in America today! It will be only for PS2, though, so sorry ToS fans who only have a PS2 : o! Pardon my excitement, but I am just very, very happy about this. I never thought I would see another Tales game here unless it were to be on GC.

Here's the low down:

Quote:
NAMCO TO BRING TALES OF LEGENDIA®, AN EPIC ROLE PLAYING ADVENTURE TO THE PLAYSTATION®2
Latest Quest in Tales Universe Takes Franchise Fans To New Heights
04/12/2005

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (April 12, 2005) – Leading video games publisher and developer Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that the latest epic adventure in the enormously popular Tales franchise, Tales of Legendia®, will be coming to the U.S. market exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.

In development for several years, Tales of Legendia will offer fantastic 3D graphics, dynamic battle scenes and an emotionally-charged storyline. Additionally, Tales of Legendia features a unique cast of characters designed by Kazuto Nakazawa, the internationally renowned Japanese artist acclaimed for his amazing animation sequences in “Kill Bill: Vol. 1.”

“We look forward to bringing the newest Tales adventure to the loyal fans of this franchise,” said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc. “Tales of Legendia’s updated graphics and engaging battle system clearly sets a new standard for the role-playing genre of games, and we are confident players will be delighted with this next journey.”

Tales of Legendia is an epic tale of love and heroism that explores the ties that bind us all. Senel Coolidge, a young expert of the special skill called “eres,” was drifting in the misty ocean on a small boat with his younger sister Shirley. As food ran out and their strength deteriorated, an island suddenly burst through the mist and approached the boat with astonishing speed. The boat was engulfed by wild waves as Senel tried to steer it. When they woke up on the shore, they realized it was not an ordinary island, but actually the deck of the mysterious giant ship called Legacy. Have they stumbled upon an unknown civilization, or is the Legacy a relic of something long past?

The Tales series has been thrilling RPG fans around the world for nearly a decade. While it follows a traditional RPG format, the series is set apart by its slick presentation and art, real-time interactive battle system and clever level designs and puzzles.

So far no names were changes, even if there are only two announced >.>;. I cannot say exactly why they decided to release it here, but my speculation is because of Symphonia's raging success. Unfortunately, the game is slated to come out here Winter 2006 T_T ....

If anyone is wondering why they didn't release Rebirth, I don't completely know, but it is probably because Rebirth is voice acted 90% of the time. Every single skit, every single scene related to advancing in the story, and every single important event is completely voice acted. You could seriously take the audio and use it to make a 30+ episode long anime. This would take a lot of time and money to do, and I doupt Namco would want to do that >.>;.

All I can say is, I'm excited =).

For more info on ToL, go here. That site is in Japanese, but you can at least see more screens and more info on characters.

BTW, if you go to the Namco ToS forum, there is anew section for ToL. You can get info that is directly from the Japanese site there.

It's probably too late for Rebirth now, sadly... can't say I like Legendia so far, either.

Give me Destiny 2, you bastards. ;_;

Destiny 2 is far too late, I'm planning on importing it in the summer, so I'll be fine. Too bad Rebirth is late, it's such a great game.

Legendia looks okay. The battle system sounds phenomonal, though! This game has been under works since before ToS was shipped here, it might have still been under works since before ToS was even created. We cannot judge this game poorly right now, they have been working on it for far too long to say it's bad from pictures at this point.

Well, I'm going on character design alone, which doesn't really work, but...

Maybe I would like them more if they removed the orbs and that one guy's weird eyepatch :P

Lol, yeah. Almost everyone, including me, hates the character designs. They look a lot better during the skits, though.

By the way, the battle system will have elements from Soul Calibur's. This is because some of the SC team is helping in the development. The battle system is supposed to feel like a fighting game. I don't see how they can't pull this off, in my opinion.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I got the speculated release date wrong. Most sources say Q1 2006, not winter 2006. Much better, eh =P?

Comparing Symphonia's fields to SC, it doesn't really seem too far off. The only main differences are the way attacks/special moves are handled, and the RPG elements in the the Tales battle system.

They have new styles of fighting which make it more like SC and Tekken, than the normal "Tales" style. Symphonia was a step up, but there are still more differences than similarities, it's mostly traditional. Like grappling and stuff. IGN has a lot of stuff on the game's battle system.

I am sad that they did not pick a different Tales game to bring to the US. ;_;

I was thinking this was Rebirth. I am wrong, apparently.

Wait, wasn't Phantasia on the GBA once?

Well, that's good to hear. Just hope the game doesn't suck like the one for the Cube.

I'm serious, the Cube version was a let-down compared to the other Tales of series.
But, if I wanted to play a good RPG on the Cube, I'd just wait for Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki. Laughing

Phantasia was orginally on the SNES. Then ported to the PS1 and then later ported to the GBA.

I wish they would bring the Narikiri dungeon series over to the US or the GBA version of ToP. Mainly becuase I don't have a Gamecube or Playstation 2. Too bad that's impossible to happen now. ;_;

The character designs really turn me off from it. Although, the in-game stuff looks really neat. o.o

Oh yeah, does anyone know if the PSP version of Tales of Eternia will be translated and bought to the States? :O

Narikiri Dungeon 2/3 are probably way to obscure at this point... if how they handled the Cless cameo in Destiny (Hi! I'm some guy from some game that you've never played! What's my name?) is how they would handle them, then it would be horrible.

And if they didn't, it would still be horrible, because they would have to try some way to make sense of things. :/

O.o; Look through these and tell me the graphics are bad >.>;. BTW, the screen shots on the American official site are poor quality photos and has no battle screenshots. The actual game is a lot smoother. Plus, judging a game by it's graphics is stupid. If a game was bad because of its graphics, then why did FFVII do so well, along with the Tales series? Rebirth is 2D and has stupid effects, but it sold very well in Japan. As did Tales of Destiny (Over 800,000 copies!)

Lol, what's wrong with Cress Albain?

From what I've seen, the character models and in game anime designs of the characters look a lot better than the official designs. Usually the official art looks tons worse than the art in the game.

Here are some screencaps from the anime cut scenes

Here and here are some screencaps from the skits.

Oh, by the way. The game is only 50% done. Everything you see is beta and could be changed at any time.
