I prefer Nintendo all the way. It stared with a portable consule first. You could say PS kinda copied Nintendo.

I own a DS and my brother own a PSP and judging by the two handhelds right now I'm towards with the PSP just a little bit.

The PSP is a beauty to look at from its sleek, shiny design to its incredible widescreen. The widescreen is great but it can get smudged and scratched easily. The PSP has a lot of impressive games to choose from but only 4 games interest me at the moment: Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Dark Tower, Wipeout Pure, Lumines, and Bleach: Heat the Soul. The battery life on the PSP is not bad, around 6-8 hours. The PSP can play UMD movies but I'm not really excited about spending more that $20 dollars for a UMD movie with no special features where I can get more from a DVD movie at around the same price. I especially like how you can transfer movie files on the Memory Stick Duo to be play on the PSP which means I can actually watch anime on the PSP. But the only way to benefit from that feature is to buy a 512 MB or 1 GB Memory Stick which by the way are not cheap. Overall, I'm pretty impressed by the PSP. I'll wait until there is $100 price drop and then I'll consider buying one.

The DS's touch screen is great as it offers game designers new and innovative ways for making games on the handheld. Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare: Touched! are the two best games to own on the DS right now and that's about it. Other games like Mario Kart DS, Castlevania DS, Lost in Blue, Advance Wars DS, and Jump Superstars won't come out until later this year. After constant abuse of the touch screen by playing WarioWare: Touched!, there hasn't been a scratch on my touch screen yet. The screens on the DS are much more durable that the PSP. The DS has a longer battery life that the PSP, around 10-12 hours. It's true that the DS doesn't have any music and movie capabilities like the PSP but you can buy a 3rd party product like the Game Boy Movie Player or the Play-Yan if you want to watch movie files or listen to music on the DS. I like my DS but more games just need to come out for the handheld.

Both handhelds have Wi-Fi capabilities but I'm not really excited about those features just yet.

That goes double for the PSP due to its amazingly short battery life. Only 6 hours on minimal settings? 3 hours tops for movies? Does Sony expect you to carry around a charger and stop to recharge it after every use?

I favor the DS over the PSP any day. Mostly because I've got major beef with the company itself. It really ticks me off how Sony seems to be out to squeeze as much cash out of its customers as possible. Don't belive that's true? What about the fact that Sony always makes its systems out of cheap, flimsy materials, then sells their stuff for higher prices than Nintendo, who makes their systems sturdier. A close friend of mine is very careful with his gaming systems, making sure they're kept as safe and secure as possible. Yet he's gone through 3 PS2s in as many years because the things kept dying on him for various, stupid reasons. All the while, he's still got the Gamecube he bought those same 3 years ago. The PSPs are reported to be equally as breakable. While I'm sure forcing customers to buy the same fragile, high-priced systems over and over again can pull in quite alot of money, it's a downright shameful ploy Sony seems intent on pushing.

Ok, I'm done ranting.

To get to the point, DS might not be perfect, but it's still a hell of alot better than the PSP. Sure, PSP might have those cutting-edge graphics, but then how many times have honest gamers admitted that visuals aren't everything? The DS might not have a ton of games right now, but there are ALOT of great games slated for relatively soon release. Plus, the stuff it's got right now can keep people occupied in the meantime. A portable Mario64, one of the greatest games of all time? I like. :]

You can throw an N64 across a room without interrupting your game. XP

Exactly my point! :V My good old black and white Game Boy may have a few scratches on the screen and a few layers of dust, but pop in some fresh batteries (and, well, clean it up a bit) and the darn thing would still work like new.

A kid once wrote in to Nintendo Power, saying that he'd lost his GBA in his backyard. After being rained on, stepped on repeatedly by his dog, and covered in dirt, it STILL worked!

X-Play (a review show on G4) once did a bit on damage tests done on the three consoles (Gamecube, PS2 and X-Box), including smacking them across the floor with a sledgehammer, dropping from several feet up, and pounding them with a hammer. They performed the full list of damage tests 3 or 4 times, and EVERY SINGLE TIME the PS2 was the first to fall, while the Gamecube was the sole survivor.

I have to stop now, I'm getting a little too worked up about this. Laughing

I put a cartridge through the washing machine once. I had shoved Pokemon Yellow (containing my precious authentic Mew) into the pocket of my jeans. Forgot to take it out, and my mother didn't check the pockets.

The sticker was quite worn, but I left it for a week to dry, and my game was perfectly intact. XP

I can vouche for that as well. I remember being at a friend's place and I forget the game we were playing, but it was connected to a GameShark and then to the N64. Somebody pulled a cord a little too hard and the system took a 5 or 6 foot fall to the floor. The game system and game where undamaged, and gameplay was uninterupted. XD Nintendo makes strong consoles.

As far as the DS vs PSP thing goes, I'll buy whichever has the Rockman games, which means I'll only be getting a DS when it gets an EXE game. :P

My cousin's Japanese N64 has been bought since it first came out, it takes a while to turn it on sometimes because you have to repeat it several times.

I too can vouch on that part. My cousin got mad at me when we were playing Pokemon Colisseum, and in the middle of a fight I had worked for a long time to reach, she suddenly got up and thrusted the system off the top of the TV. I was still playing <.<; Nothing happened except for an obnoxiously nervewrecking sense of "you're going to die" ringing throughout the room.

Anyways. I for one will most likely, and I could swear by this if I didn't know how unreliable I am, never get a PSP. Having past troubles with sony/witnessing the unreliability of some of their products that got few complaints at the time, and now being faced with something that not only costs more than my next three sword payments combined(I have swords on layaway, I collect :p), but is being said to be as fragile as a newborn, I don't think I want to get near it. Plus, the games for it thus far seem to be ...well, unattractive to me for now.

As for the DS, I will be getting one, but only when the newer pokemon games are released(not dash) Because until then, it's just a bigger GBA SP to me, since I don't like Mario, Kirby, etc. and metroid prime hunters isn't nearly entertaining enough for me to buy a new system for...plus, it's a FPS, and I generally don't like em. >>; However, I will buy a DS if I ever have the extra money on hand after paying off my swords and stuff. :O

I honestly don't know any of the skematics and such, and I think that people who buy things don't pay attention to that. I think that I'd look at what games they each have and what looks more appealing to me. Some people think that the DS has better games then the PSP, and vice versa. I think that this thread is comparing two different but similar things, PSP has a bigger screen but then DS has two screens. I think that it depends on the gamer and what they'd prefer. I think that sometimes when they look at game box backs they will see the quality that way rather then buying the game and seeing it themselves that way. I really can't tell which is better, but I'd rather have a big screen then double screen and I'd rather have better and clear pictures then blurry or pixelly or even dead spots. And most importantly I think I'd rather have something with good controls and games. I think that we are, even though we don't mean to, adding in opinions. If you really need to compare it with fact, can't you just look at pages that talk about them or look at the two yourself and determin it for yourself? I mean this is a product and it is meant to suit different types of people. You may not like it but others may, except for the dead spots part... But I think having square controls would be a challenge rather then a set back. I haven't played with a square control before. ^^;;

Console wars are always so amusing.. I really don't see what the big deal is, ever. Each system has its own ups and downs, and everyone will always find a reason to bash/praise whichever system they pick as their choice. I myself have always tried to be nice to every system, but I do have my favorites.

Sure, people bash the PSP due to problems they've heard. I have yet to have a problem with my PSP. No dead pixels, my square button is perfectly fine. I've never had a single problem with my PS2 either, and it's a first release system. My cat has broken the front panel off the CD tray, and that's the only bad thing that has ever happened.

The same goes with my Nintendo systems. I still have a working NES, and okay so it does get touchy from time to time, but it is 20yrs old. Then again, my GCN controllers are shot, and I've never had to replace a controller for any system I've ever owned. It also isn't reading memory cards in slot 2 right anymore, which is extremely odd. Maybe the system isn't as durable as I thought..

Xbox isn't important in this conversation, so I'll leave my giant paperweight out of this.

Anyway to get back on the subject of this post, I have both the PSP and the DS, both since release day. The DS never struck my interest much, but I must admit it does make my GBA games look beautiful. As for the games it has released for it.. Well.. I'm rather disapointed. The system has so much potential, and so far Nintendo has thrown it out the window.

What about the PSP? Yeah, the battery life does worry me, but Dynasty Warriors is just too much fun to worry about. And hey, the system automatically read my wireless network without having to do a lot of work. That's a plus right there. And yes, I know some people can't stand the thought of a dead pixel. I've had quite a few people try to return their systems at work because of this. It's actually rather fun to tell them to call Sony about it, and watch them get mad.

Anyway, I love my PSP so much more than my DS simply because Dynasty Warriors keeps me much more entertained than Mario/WarioWare/Zoo Keeper can.

...Yet, I only cary my SP with me. Funny how the tides turn on the handheld market, isn't it?

Well, sorry for getting off topic here, but I'd like to get more into detail about the Xbox...

Whenever I hear people complaining about the big X, people always scream that it's too big (the console AND controller), so people just don't want to play it at all.
-_-

Then, the smaller controllers come out and then people complain that the controller is too small. -_- I really don't get this... I think it's bias from some people about American companies.

The Xbox has great games, of course, none as playful as the GC and not close to the PS2's selection, but everywhere I go, I just hear people complaining about how big the Xbox is, without actually going into detail.

I'm quite happy with my Xbox, the games are really fun, it's fully-modded and can run StepmaniaX, NES, SNES and PSX roms/isos. The only thing I think it's lacking is RPGs (even though KOTOR and KOTOR2 and Morrowwind were GREAT American RPGs)...

I don't wanna get flamed for saying Xbox is good, because if I could go back in time, I would've got a PS2, but Dead Or Alive just dragged me in. XD

Well, I know there's a 3rd party company that made smaller than small controllers (size of PS2, but thicker)... Though I doubt many people here would be satisfied by those, either...

Consoles are clearly made for men these days. XP

I have the cute little Super Famicom controller for my NGC. (This one.) It doesn't work with Smash Brothers Melee, unfortunately, but otherwise it suits my needs~

I'm not so sure it's bias against American companies, I think it more has to do with the fact that it's Microsoft. Let's face it, Microsoft has earned themselves a lot of hate over the years, and I'm thinking this is the main stigma against the XBox.

Having said that, I personally just don't like the XBox because there aren't as many games I'd play on the XBox as I would my Gamecube. Obviously under optimal conditions I'd have all three systems, but when I can only have one, I'm going to pick one with the most titles I'd play. Perhaps it's because I don't own an Xbox that I don't find it's games intriguing, but playing the games my friend has, I don't have any urge to get an XBox. I'm hoping they do better with the XBox 2 and market more games I find attractive. So, it's not that I hate the XBox, it's just that I'd prefer a different system.

I got the gamecube because it was cheaper and I wanted smash brothers but I just don't like the x-box much the game selection seems limited and it just doesn't apeal to me. My cousin has one but he's a big computer gamer anyway so it's was an easy choice for him to get it.

I agree that the games that system has is the most important fact. The PSP can play movie and MP3 but what the point of getting it when all the game I will play are on the DS? Both system are good but I like DS more 'cause the game it has(Pokemon, Rockman EXE etc.).
BTW why everyone seems to hate Pokemon Dash? I think it's good except it hurts my touch screen alot._.

I don't have a psp and i probaly never will, i found the DS a big improvement for my gameboy colour, i always find a problem with my ps1 (wow i have old systems don't i ?) first, the cover on the analog sticks fall off then the system stops reading the contorllers.

I have to say the Nintendo makes their systems alot better than the other (i mean, my laptop fell off my desk and broke in two places (getting that fixed, so i'm on someother laptop) and my DS was thrown across the hallway nothing! just a scratch on the bottom) I my point is that Nintendo's systems are more durable than Sony and IBM products.
