I'm working a hypothesis regarding which chips come with which versions of the games, but first I need a question answered.

Which version of BN4 came out first in Japan, Red Sun or Blue Moon?

According to GFaqs...RS:12/02/03, BM:12/02/03.

The data speaks for itself.

Wasn't it the same for the third game as well?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only two game release that had separate release dates was Battle Network Rockman EXE 5. I'm still a little bit confused as to why the release dates were different for that one, but eeeh... don't matter to me now that they're both out anyway.

The two versions of EXE 3 had separate dates, since Black was a "special" release for a convention happening in Osaka over the summer.

My hypothesis is that the game that came out later in Japan usually (if not always) is the one with the stronger Forte chip.

Well that's not the case in EXE3. The Airburst Bass chip is an assload more useful than the EarthBreaker Bass chip.

Mostly because you can pump it up for ungodly amounts of damage.

I think with EXE 5 it goes with the Forte Cross, if this theory is correct. Silver Forte Cross Rockman is more powerful than Gold since it has Hells Rolling as the charged shot instead of Gold's spread shot.

EXE5 has the same crappy Bass chips as in EXE4. I suppose ToB has the better one with Shooting Buster because it has more hits, even if those hits illogically only affect non-hole panels on the right half of the field.

Can you still exchange Navi data like in EXE4?

Maybe. Higsby's still has he Free Tournament board, but the link menu only has entries for "Netbattle", "Trade", and "Compare". Plus while in EXE4 ghosts of all the navis from both versions appeared in different areas (for instance- Fireman in Town 3 while Aquaman's in ACDC1) EXE5 has corresponding navi ghostsin the exact same spot (In ToB you encounter Medi in Endo 5, while in ToC you encounter Toadman there) so it seems unlikely you can fight the other version's navis in your version. Maybe Higsby's Free Space Board is just for show this time.

I asked because I was wondering if you could recruit Navis from the other version of the game for missions in your version.

I'm leaning towards ToB because of my obsession with swords, but ToC seems to have better Soul Unisons overall, as well as the stronger Forte chip.

Do any of the ToC Soul Unisons utilize swords in any way?

If I remember correctly...Colonel Soul's charged attack is V-Sword. (I think that's the right name... .-.)

Well, I just checked GameFAQs & apparently ToC has TWO Soul Unisons that utilize swords.

Colonel Soul uses V-Slash (as you said, Sketch). Shadow Soul uses LongSword and does a back stab whenever a sword chip is charged up (but doesn't deal double damage). On top of that, I won't need to sacrifice a sword chip so that's another thing off my chest.

So as things stand, I just may very well go for Team of Colonel instead.

AirMan, QuickMan, CutMan, and FreezeMan are notably absent, and ShadowMan was not Gospel per se, just a mercenary. You were saying?

But I do see they brought back a lot of characters from BN2. MagnetMan, KnightMan, ShadowMan, NapalmMan. That's quite a numbere.
