Cause there are a lot of people that hate their defamation of anime...

Like Inital D...

They made it so it looks like it's from the "hood"

and someone told me that their Love Hina Manga all they speak in is ebonics...

I think their translation of Fruits Basket is okay...they keep the original honorifics. But I do not like all their work...they messed up Cardcaptor Sakura!! :puku:

They handle themselves okay. Sometimes they go overboard with slang (GB Volume 1, ew). They also can translate some things wrong. They're better than Viz, that's for sure. I prefer Dark Horse and ADV manga, myself.

GB? (I would only write that question but still since I am not one of the prized veterans of this board, I can't spam...)

You can always ask "What is GB? I'm sorry, I've never heard of it." >_>

What is GB, I think it's the abbreviation of a name, but what is it?

Let's put it this way. I think Tokyopop is trying to compete with Kids' WB to see who can screw up their respective licenses the worst. Honestly, the translated Initial D manga should be shrink-wrapped with a bottle of White-Out and a felt-tip pen. They basically have the entire thing written in ebonics, and changed names to absolute crap. We now have Iggy and Tak (where's Screwdriver?) of the Akina Speed Stars. And then you have Ry and Cole. (I think someone was really hungry. Rye bread and coleslaw, anyone?) And how do you even pronounce that?) And at one point in production, they were planning to replace the energetic Super Eurobeat music with RAP and to change Fujiwara Tofu to Fujiwara Pizza. (I wonder how they would've explained the water cup. "If the water spills, that means the pizza's getting tossed around and... um... the cheese will stick to the roof of the box?)

It's basically another case of the translating company completely butchering stuff in a pathetic attempt to make it sell well. See also: NT Crappior, Digimon, Namco America (Who had the idiotic idea of putting Britney Spears songs in Taiko no Tatsujin, anyways? >_<), and Capcom USA.

It really just depends on the particular series. They do poorly on some, and great on others. From what I have, I can't say I'm disappointed in them (keep in mind that I have less than zero interest in Initial D which would appear to be the main gripe). They're a lot better than Viz, and they license a lot of manga that probably never would make it here otherwise, not to mention how they encourage others to create their own.

Just felt someone had to speak up in favor of them, since I really admire what they've done for manga. (I shudder to think that we might still be forced to buy flipped manga for US$15.95 a pop without them..)

GetBackers. Sorry, I should have specified that. It makes me sick everytime I read the first volume. It is packed with annoying slang...

No, I like them. They released .Hack//Legend Of The Twilight (LOVED that series) and the Family Guy and Transformers Energon "Cine-manga"s. However, I can see why say they say they are "Leading The Anime Revolution" (Every book is $9.99, ACK!) :]

They only say that because they hold the most licenses to manga than any other company >.>;. I would say ADV leads more, though. ADV does anime and manga. They hold the most anime licenses and they seem to translate better than TokyoPop.

I LIKE TOKYOPOP! =p!
...but mostly because my little sister works for them (aka we get free stuff ^_^). Well, she draws some stuff here and there, really. Might do more when she goes to/gets out of college.
I haven't read much of their manga, but I never really liked Inital D to begin with, sooo... no loss there. Fruits Basket is good, though.

I changed the title becuase now one of my favorite webcomics has made fun of 4kids...

http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?

Isn't it adorable...

I HATE THEM!!!

I like orchestrated music... but noooooooo... they have to replace it with garage bands and unknown rappers...
Damn... I'm starting to hate this society... "OMG CIGARETTE LET'S CHANGE IT TO A LOLLIPOP TO MAKE IT 'Kid-friendly'!!" and yet they see guns and violence everyday...

BAKA 4Kids and Tokyopop...

TokyoPop is okay, but I don't like 4kids. The bad thing is the price of the mangas for TokyoPop. They're too expensive! :grr:

Yeah, geez, stop complaining about the price. 10 bucks is a damn good price. Don't any of you remember Viz Graphic Novels?
