I've never experienced problems with any of Capcom's games on a GBA before, so when my copy of MMBN 4 Blue Moon froze with a black screen on my DS, I assumed Nintendo didn't program something right for the DS to process GBA games or something. The DS also has problems with Metal Slug Advance (but that's not a Capcom game =p). I remember someone asked about their copy freezing and now I'm suspecting that he was simply playing it on his DS. I put my copy back into my SP and it worked fine.

Does anyone have any other problems with GBA games on their DS? If so, which ones (and when)?

Edit: It just occurred to me that this topic might be more general so if it needs to be bumped to Anime and Games, please do so. Thank you!

I've never experienced any problems with Gameboy Advance games on my DS. Infact, I prefer it a TON over the GBA SP. The actual backlit screen makes everything look better. Plus I like the feel of holding a DS better. It's more like a video game controller in my opinion.

I dunno why everyone has problems with GBA games in their DS. Hell, I abuse mine crazy style, and they work fine... At one point, my cartridges were all covered in Lemonhead - due to an unfortunate accident involving my bookbag, my GBA games, water, and a bag of Lemonheads. I popped 'em in my DS and they worked fine. I popped 'em in my SP and they worked fine. Still cleaned 'em off afterward to prevent damage, but either way, they still worked fine in both...

What are you guys doing to your DS's?

It's not working because the DS emulates the game. So things like playing Woodman's scenario in BN4 will leave a black screen. But if I explained the whole thing. It would be against the rules. Since it has to do something with a certain thing.

if you are playing red sun in ds the gutsman and fireman chips freeze the DS for a few seconds, so i just use them for soul unisons, thats it, i've played othre games and they worked fine, i just hope EXE5 will work on the DS without problems.

i think emulating is when the game is not played on a proper system, just a copy, or a fake, most of the time it would run into problems with the gameplay.

well that's my food for thought.

I am unsure, but to emulate probably means that the DS engine is simply a rip of the GBA engine, and the copying isn't perfect from engine to engine. Thus, GBA games may play quite slowly on the DS, to the point of freezing. In respect to the GBA games, the DS is simply a $200 GBA emulator. You are better off with sticking to the GBA for GBA games.

Midnight Critic got it. The DS has an entirely new engine for its own gameplay, and then Nintendo became lazy and just ripped the old one in for their belief that the DS would become 'more versatile' to play GBA and DS games. In the long run, the DS plays DS games, a GBA/SP plays GBA games.

That's exactly what happened. o_0

I didn't say I did anything to my DS or that it freezes with EVERY GBA game I have. In fact, it works fine with most of my games (currently playing Zero 3 on it, if anyone cares >_>) and I've only experienced problems with the two games I listed.

You mean the DS is very different from the GBA? No so it means that it's not worth to play the any old series.

Heh, it even feels like an emulator too. No 2-player.

I can't say that my wonderful god-given DS has frozen on me yet in any of the games I've just read or at all. But my SP has frozen up on me many, many times. And when it does all my data goes with it. Sad Sad
The only advice I could give to you, would just be just to be extremely careful while playing. But if it keeps up, I think your DS may be in need of some repairs.

I love the DS! Even if it did freeze my GBA games, i would still play them on it. My only problem is that the DS won't play GBC and original GB games. that really sux. but if its really just a GBA game player thing.... Then I could play my old games on it! if you look in your DS the only thing thats stopping it from playing the old games are 2 little pegs in the back. compare a GBA to the old games and you can see 2 slits cut on the GBA games that the old games don't have. Oops. this has nothing to do with freezing.
