I'm not sure if it is just me but do a lot of anime have some sort of religious reference? Such as the cross? _________________ Avatar by May, many flowers and thanks for the wonderful avatar. |

Well, I think I could count WeiB Kreuss Glühen, but the show isn't very religious per se.
Evangelion is a given, if you've seen it, you'll know it's filled with many passages of the bible. _________________

Full Metal Alchemist touches the concept of religion alot of times. It even throws in they're own unique religion similar to a few of ours (Letoism=Christianity and Ishbala=Allah of Judaism). Other animes come in touch with religion as well, like Evangelion, as Mari-chan stated. |

is it just me or does society have a lot of religious references?
Enough said, unless you're specifically referencing Chrno Crusade and the like... _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

Sailormoon had many references like the cross and shinto priestesses. They also have gods in it. Fushigi Yuugi also had some things. I know that rockman in the 4th game had the buddha statues in it. I know there are plenty more that I haven't listed like chrno crusade like Izumi said. _________________

Get Backers has it...
I was watching when they infiltrate a certain place and then they see the painting of the Last Supper...
Not only that Makubes says that there needs to be another "judas"
I was reading on animenfo and they said stuff like I think either Ginji or Ban being Christ and Akabane being Judas... _________________

Curses, my point was completely overlooked.
Let's try this another way: yes, some animes are heavily religion-based; Chrno Crusade, Saint Tail and the like. However the initial post seems to be saying, "seems like there are a lot of religious aspects or references in most anime", not really meaning the specifically religion-BASED shows like the ones I just mentioned.
Saying that lots of animes have religious references, crosses and such is pretty much like saying "Hey, I notice they wear clothes in a lot of animes. What's up with that?" Notwithstanding that Christian religious symbols seem to be fairly novel to the Japanese, we shouldn't be surprised at all to see Shinto/Buddhist references like the priestesses and shrines. They're a part of everyday life.
Perhaps this is "strange" to some of you guys because most Western TV is so censored and non-denominational? _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

I got your point, Izu ^_^
Anyway, as far as religion goes, Evangelion seems so deeply religious on the surface, but it's kinda strange to me... After watching it like a bazillion times, it really just doesn't seem real. Like the religious aspects are just there for show. Just there to look cool, really... I dunno why it seems like that to me, but it just does...
I've only seen like eight animes though, so I dunno any others that have a glaringly obvious story completely revolving around religious ideas and concepts... not that it matters. I'd like to keep my religion and my anime separate. _________________ I think it's time to say goodbye. |

heh... just watched Get Backers again and I saw during when they are infiltrating a certain home of one of the main characters, Akabane was called the Judas and then they kept referring to the upper level of Ginji's childhood home as God...
yeesh it was insane just watching it... _________________
