Are you serious?

Keiji Inafune based the characters on music, and that's what the series revolved around. Supposedly. :O

...DuhR....GeE...wHat dO U ThiNk???

He was talking about the names. The names all revolve around music through the series...all the way up to Rockman 8 with Duo (which I believe was intented to refer to "Duet")

Yeah, a duo is two of something, and a duet is sung by two people.

Ever notice that two (at least) characters lost their musical names when translated to english? Rockman and Blues become...Megaman and Protoman? How does that work out?

The most probable reason:

The translators thought that we might find the English names "Totally Awesome....l33t!!!"

...of course, half of the Rockman fandom thinks not....Razz Razz Razz

Plus, they may have also thought we wouldn't catch on. Maybe they assumed the general population did not know the meaning of "pun"....

..of course, they also make sense to some extent. "Megaman" is supposed to be our hero while "Protoman" is what his name suggests...some sort of prototype.

What did that last post have to do with the thread? You could have included it with your post above RollEXE's, or posted something more relevant to the topic. A mere comment does not suffice as fodder for an intelligent discussion. One that's been around for years, but nontheless one which should invoke some intelligence in opinionating. :P

I'm not much of a Rockman fanatic, but I believe it has now become a fad for fan writers/artists to name their creations after musical terms. Getting kind of hard to find one someone hasn't used, as a mtter of fact. >_>;;

Only revive threads if you have something interesting to say about the subject, please. There's nothing scary about that anyway...

Locking.

Sketch, the reviving topic rule applies to threads that are old. Threads that are, like, a MONTH old, not a couple days.
Just so you know.

Mega Man is still Rock though. Play Mega Man 4(NES) and watch the opening. Not any other reference to his name that I know of though... -.-

Was Rock and Roll music very popular around 1987? If I'm not mistaken, that's the year Capcom created Megaman. Seeing as the names are based on music, I guess this preety much explains Rockman's name.

However, I think that the first time anybody noticed this naming basis was when Roll was named. I mean, she did make appearances in Rockman 1 and 4 (both in the endings) but she wasn't given a name then. Or was she?

*grabs the metaphorical steering wheel*

I dunno if anyone picked up on it, but Nana from Command Mission is also based on a musical term. It means "lullaby" in Spanish.

It's also used as the equivalent to the English words, "boo-boo," "nanny," and "grandma," depending on the region and context. I can sorta see the nanny part, as well as the boo-boo part, but lullaby seems to be the most likely one.

And Yes We shouldn't forget about the "Guns and Roses" Mavericks from X(I think it was X4 or 5)

It was X5. also the music in one of the levels in X3 sounds very similar to Gn'R's song My Michelle.
