ok, since the hello and goodbye disallowed replies, might as well make this a recommendation.

What I recommend is either make it longer than 1 month or just don't have that rule. I mean, if a new member came to this forum and search through the entire pages of a certain forum, found a topic he/she is interested, but that topic had been 1 month old. So, it's either he/she replies to it, which results in a warning, or he/she creates a new topic about it, which also results in a warning. I mean, this isn't really fair for new members. They found a topic they really want to discuss about, but they can't reply since it's against the rules. An example is here:

http://www.kishuku.com/reo/viewtopic.php?p=31537&highlight=#31537

see, Tomahawkman418 is a new memeber (only 2 posts, you can tell), and he/she wants to talk about the relationship about Meiru/Netto. Maybe he just got interested in the series? he was curious? for whatever his reason is, he should be able to discuss about it. But the rules prevent him/her from doing that. Isn't that unfair? He/she wants to talk about it and result in a warning. That isn't really fair to me.

I know I should have PM a mod/admin, but I just want to post it instead of PMing a specific mod/admin so they can think about it.

What Tomahawk posted did not add any relevant thought to the thread, nor did he actually give reason for further intelligent discussion. That thread was already used and dead before he posted, and what he posted wouldn't have revived it except for people who want to blab on about how sweet Netto/Meiru would be.

So what happen if another user posted similarly this way and HAD give reason for further intelligent discussion?

How would I know? I don't go around reviving old threads. :P

Some topics, such as the "Your Picture" one, are exceptions, but most of the time if a topic has already been fully discussed and someone else decides to add their two cents, chances are they'll just be repeating what someone else said earlier, or not adding anything. There are other exceptions, but so far I haven't seen one.

When something constructive is added to an old thread, that's fine. It happens fairly often, actually. It's the posts in thoroughly dead ones that ended up spawning this rule. u.u;;

That is true...but then one can make the argument that creating a new topic would simply be a waste of bandwidth, especially when the same information is repeated.

I have bumped a few threads back from the dead, but the most recent one would probably have to deal with manga Volume #7. I was debating over whether to revive the old thread or create a new one, because I wanted to know whether the volume was released or not.

Anyway...I don't suppose that would have violated the unwritten rule?

I always hate it when comments are repeated, even in current threads. >_< THAT should be what the rule is about. Who cares if you revive a dead topic, just don't say the exact same thing a hundred other people have already said.

Indeed. I mean, if the topic is dead after about 100 people saying, "Rockman EXE 5: Teams of Colonel is going to be released in Feburary 14", and suddenly one member just come in and said, "Rockman EXE5: ToC is going to be released in Feburary 14! Who-hoo!" That would be really annoying. However, if the person contributes information, such as :

ToC has different navis, different endings and different Forte Cross Rockman

Then that should be allowed. I think you guys maybe...want to change your rules a bit. Instead of "no reviving topics after it's been dead for a month", you may want to change it to "no reviving topics after it's been dead for a month with an useless post. (with similar thoughts or just no thoughts at all)".

It already is, as I said above.

From the rules thread:

That's pretty clear, so I'm not certain I quite understand what changes you want us to make. ^^;;

Ah, don't worry about it. :3 That's just how people quote it, I guess. XD

But as it's written in the official rules topic, you can revive so long as you have something constructive to add! ^^
