What's Chaud's real name?

I've seen it spelled both Ijuin and Injuuin, and I always figured it could be either spelling. I thought Eguene was Chaud's last name in the game so that it would be sort of a close English match to his original. You know now I'm starting to wonder if Shop Pro only made up Chaud Blaze because they were confused as well. ^^;;

Time to settle this once and for all.

*goes to Capcom's EXE5 Concept art page and reads Enzan's name*

bleah...nvm, his name is in kanji, which I can't read..XD

Hmm, I dunno remember how it's pronounced in the anime. However...if we seperate the syllables according to how it would appear in kana, that may help.

-"I-n-ju-u-i-n" (7 symbols...remember "ju" is two...a combination of "ji" and "yu")

-"I-ju-u-i-n" (6 symbols)

-"I-ju-i-n" (5 symbols)

I believe it sounds closest to the 3rd...but oh well.

Plus the other two would end up in creating a rather long name.

But then again, I'm no expert.

Uh...these aren't "theories", they're just variations. And there's a finite amount of them. It's not that hard to sort through it.

The Ju and u are merged together.

same as Yuichirou

The last u is discarded and Yu and u are merged together, that's how Capcom has always translated those types of names. mainly because the kanji acts as a single "letter" not two so ijuin, yuichiro,

I guess "u"s are just easily discardable in Japanese. For instance, I definitely know it's "Kendoman" and not "Kendouman", even though the "u" is there in katakana. When I was writing that navi's bio for my site's navi database I searched the net for some glossaries on Kendo, and every single one of them had no "u" whatsoever in the name. And they were official sites for Kendo schools too, written by people that knew quite a bit about Japanese language and culture. It all led me to believe Japanese people routinely drop superfluous "u"s in translation simply because it makes no difference in other languages. In "Kendou" in particular, an "ou" sound just means a long "o" in Japanese, though it may get interpreted as a long "u" sound to english-speakers, so it only makes sense to spell it simply "Kendo".

Same with Centaurman (Kentarosuman, Centarosman) and Bombman(Bonbaaman, if he is Bomberman, then Beastman is Beesuitoman and Magnetman is Magnetoman, and Toadman is Thordman)

Some times the spellings are just different when they're in english.

But those are katakana names, spelled out phonetically the best way the Japanese can. With Ijuuin, you're dealing with a Japanese name.

If Ijuin is Capcom's romanization, then isn't it correct? It's their character.... Sure it's kanji would spell out Ijuuin, but that's not how it's romanized, they're two different languages, if they wrote Ijuin as "Stupid kid with white hair" in English, then THAT would be official, and no amount of "Educating" would fix it from you or anyone. Sheesh. The question has been answered why the fuck are we still arguing over an extra U like idiots?

Nazi-ing someone because they romanize a name wrong is more idiodic than bitching at people for using english names

Don't you think you're getting a little too worked up over this, Junkman? ^^; There's nothing wrong with trying to figure out the best way to spell it, especially if people are going to yell at others for using the 'incorrect' way in fanfics when both 'Ijuin' and 'Ijuuin' are probably correct, depending on the source.

Just take or leave those superfluous "u"s. Though it's worth thinking about leaning towards "taking" them. Just like with the family name-given name format, people ought to treat the concept of "translation" more appropriately. Japanese people tend to flip their own names around and drop the letter "u" from words when they translate their own words into english, so shouldn't we?
