Well if all that is true, then shouldn't Enzan\Chaud be Fireman's Operator? lol You'd figure with Blues as his navi he'd have some sort of sleek or secret type related name. Something that meant "best" or "unbeatable."

Hmm... How about Yaito? You know, big forehead girl? Heh. Does her name have anything to do with networks or big foreheads?

Here's a few more name jokes:

Chaud's real english name was "Eugene Chaud" and while the 'Chaud' part wa more reference to fires, 'Eugene' was supposed to be like "Ijuin" from his japanese name, Ijuin Enzan.

Mayl, Hub, Lan, Net and Site are all obvious, Yai I have no clue, but dex (Dekao) may be reference to "index" on website URLs.

Hinoken- I believe it means "fist of fire"
Mr. Match- like lighting a match

Tohru/Tori- many ice type characters have the word "toh" at the beggining of their names, like Tohron (Inuyasha) and Touya(Yu Yu Hakusho).

Madoi/Maddy- technicaly they're the same thing, "madd" like how Colorman is whacko Razz

Saloma/Sal- salad, like her nature obsessed self.

Midorikawa Kero- kero means frog.
Ribbita- "ribbit" :3

Meijin- I think after the Meiji era of Japan.

Raoul- the first two letters of his name possibly refference to "rai" which means thunder.

Mahajorama- after Mahajorama Yama (aka King Yema from DBZ and YYH) of Indian mythology.
Yahoot- making fun of yoga, and possibly Yahoo! the search engine Razz

Takeo Inukai- inukai roughyl translates to "dogworld"

Viddy Narcy/Hide Narcy- technically Hide and Viddy ARE the same name, just pronounced differently. What his name means should be obvious.

Saiko Rei- I'm sure his name means something in Japanese, but if you pronounce it right it's "Psycho Ray" as in "psyhoctic" and "ray of light" XD BEST NAME EVER.

There are probably some others, but I don't know their translations.

In my language, the kanji for netto is 'hot iron' as the iron for clothes. Meilu is pronunced around the same way as the Nestle Milo drink. Random.

My favourite is still Sunayama. :P "suna", meaning "sand", which makes Desertman perfect sense.

"saiko" (as in strongest)...

mei = famous
jin = person

"meijin" should be obvious from this :P

Also, Ryou, 'yama' means mountain. ^^ So "mountain of sand" for Sunayama.

*edit* And nobody's gotten heavily into the twins, which are double-punned...

One of the Japanese words for website is "netsite." Net-Site...Net & Site...

Netto & Saito....exact same pronounciation.

Additionally...if you look at the kanji -

Net - fiery
Sai - icy
To - battle

So written like "fiery battle" and "icy battle," but they're pronounced exactly the same way as the Internet term. XD

Enzan is "blazing mountain" as close as I can see. For Kero, "midori" means green...seiji (tohru's father) also has the ice kanji in his name..."meeru" (meiru) is the Japanese term for "e-mail"...the "chi" in "chisao" means "small"..."haya" (as in hayama daisuke, quickman's operator) referes to "hayaku," or hurry/quickly/speed...hinoken is "fist of fire," yes...hm, I don't think I'm forgetting any obvious ones that haven't been mentioned. :3

Hot damn Izumi you're good! Razz

Yeah, Sunayama screamed "sand" in my head, and Meijin's is funny, now I know what the deal was with his english name XD Dave's name I'm not surprised I missed, I didn't know his first name until now. For Chisao, I thought that maybe the "chi" was "energy", similiar to ki, as in he was energetic.

I'm guessng maybe Tamako has something to do with Metal, Atsuki with Fire, and maybe some others. Shuuko I'm sure means anything since her name is based off of her Legends counterpart. Higure, Masa, Anetta, Ran, Tensuke and some others I don't know.

Raika- as many have said, is an actually Russian name.

Arashi Kazefuji- Arashi is a common Japanese name I believe, but i think the "ara" might be sorta like "air" and "kaze" in his last name means wind.

Heh, no wonder Meijin insists on no formalities. He's already known as "famous person."

No one knows what Yaito's name means.... Well, her character design, as well as Glide's, came from Megaman Legends, so maybe her name did too. Maybe her name doesn't mean anything related to EXE...

Yaito was in Legends, I think.

Beat- Well a beat
Rush- (I'm thinking of the band, am I wrong?)

I actually looked up Laika, and it turns out Laika was the name of the first dog in space. Naturally he was a russian dog.

And I have never heard of the music style called Strong.

Apparantly the translation site I'm using is incompetent. What do you guys use to translate japanese?

Yes. Grave is just a grave. It's "scary" I guess.

I think Rush is a genre of music in Japan. At least that is what I hear a lot when people start comparing the musical aspects of the names of the characters. That's another thing the US messed up. They changed Rockman's name to Megaman. They've even gone so far as to call him "Mega" instead of Rock when not referring to him in battle mode. Ugh... BUT, that's ancient history. Eheh.

Hm, I dunno how people are pronouncing "Slur" but it can also be considered to be how people talk when drunk. Hehe. They always say people "slur" their speech when they are drunk. Laughing

Hmm... still nothing on Yaito. How about Masa-san? I wonder if his name has anything to do with calcium or fish...or BEEEEEF!!!

It's not a style of music, say you are playing a piece and there is an 'f'(meaning forte) underneath, it means that you should play that part of the music strongly (i.e. loudly), I know this because I play the guitar. :]

Some random/inane comments/ideas/thoughts/ramblings...

TriggerEXE wrote:

Plus they needed something beginning with G. (Why? Cos Shouryu(sp?) has a big "G" on his outfit...)

Kirbopher15 wrote:

I know one possible break down of the name is as follows:

Tama - Ball(As in ColourMan's signature attack)/egg (shortened form of "Tamago"
Ko - I think it can translate as 'baby'

What does that indicate? Sweet FA is far as I can tell... Anyone else have a better analysis/reason/reference?

And a fun/utterly irrelevant reference to finish, re Hinoken's name:

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Terry Bogard (of Fatal Fury, KoF, and other games) actually says "hinoken" during the 'Buster Wolf' special. (I'd check, but (a) It's difficult to make out anyway and (b) more importantly, I can't be hedgehogged to check my copy of Capcom/SNK 2 right now :chat:

Musical terms WAS the theme for naming characters in the original series. In the X series, the theme was naming characters after letters or numbers in various alphabets. Since EXE draws from the other series, those references are brought along with them, but they also add in characters named after Internet or Computer-related terms.

And to clear up, yes "Gospel" IS a style of music, specifically the prayer-based singing usually associated with African-American choirs and churches.

Ironically enough, "Grave" is a musical term as well, but not the way NTWarrior used it. The musical term "grave", pronounced "grah-vay", means to play a section of music slowly and solemnly.

Blazequest, I wouldn't bother trying to translate Japanese. That crazy language doesn't like to be translated in any simple way. There are enough users on this board with J-E Dictionaries and have taken plenty of courses on it, I just like to leave it up to them. However there's no challenge in transposing certain Japanese, namely Katakana, since it's usually just english words written a differet way. I used to use this chart to decipher the Katakana english words, but I haven't used it lately since I finally got the chart memorized when I got through EXE5.
