Not sure if anyone's realized it, but there are a few references in the game. I'll name the ones I've found.

--Ninetails (most obvious)

--Final Boss (pokeball-like markings on his large arms)

--Desert level after sinking in the quicksand. (Unown painted on the walls)

--The figure machines (some of the capsules look like pokeballs)

Maybe I've got Pkmn on the brain, but considering CM's originally made for the GCN it's not that hard to realize, right? Anyone else find any other references?

Those are way too obscure to be references (except for what you said about the walls, but I don't remember that area at all) :/

Ninetails doesn't HAVE to be a pokemon reference, you know. :o

Isn't there something about a nine-tailed fox demon in Japanese folklore?

Well, regardless, it pops up now and then in anime and video games. Pokemon has it, Command Mission had it, I believe StarFox was partially inspired by it, and Naruto is the reincarnation of it. (I'm not 100% sure about the last part, since I'm just going by hear-say).

Horrible comparison in my opinion. The system seems a lot closer to older Squaresoft RPGs.

These "references" are too vague and obscure to be qualified as official. Ninetails doesn't neccessarily refer to the Pokemon. I've seen LOTS of things that look like that have Pokeball-ish design...does that mean they were made by Nintendo. And you do realize that the 26 designs for the Unown/Annon were based on a different alphabet right??? It's not a Pokemon exclusive thing.

I've seen quite a lot of those Nine-Tailed foxes in anime and video games. I'm not quite sure what they're all based on though, but it's definitely not Pokemon. As for the vending machine balls, that's just a Vending Machine thing. There are craploads of vending machines that sell little toys and figurines in real life, and the common packaging method is little clear plastic balls so they can easily roll down the chute upon purchase. I think such vending machines are more common in Japan or something, but you don't have to look too hard to find things like that here.

They're based on a creature from Japanese folklore called a kitsune (basically, a fox with magic powers). More information is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitsune. The fifth paragraph explains the thing about the tails.

Geez. This is just as bad as that time when someone compared the worms from X1 to Caterpie. >_<

Nine-tailed foxes are pretty common. There are even nine-tailed foxes in Ragnarok Online!

Actually the Unown are based on our own alphabet system. If you remove the eyes and put lines...you'd understand. anyways...I do think you have Pokemon on the brain.

Plus all vending machine figures are in those kind of capsules. Go to you grocery store and find out.
