Heheh, my defense for the lack of multimedia on the GC is "Game consoles play games, thus the reason Gamecube has 'game' in its name. DVD players play DVDs, thus the reason they're called 'DVD players.' Gamecube isn't called DVDcube, so why should it have to play DVDs?" That's something I agree with Nintendo on, multimedia is nice, but shouldn't be necessary. Revolution does appeal to the masses in the fact that it plays DVDs, I guess that's one step forward >.>;.

How exactly are they exactly big multimedia centers just because they can play dvds? I don't see how thats bad when it actually makes things a lot easier and cheaper. :/

They really had to move into DVDs...both other major consoles had already done so long ago, so there was a lot of demand.

*edit*: On Sega:

The Saturn was released five months early. Though this seemed like a good idea at the time, by the time the competing system came out (I think it was PSX, but COULD have been SNES) they fell way behind because they had already released all available games for it. They didn't have the benefit of long-term advertising and pre-orders, so by the time the conpetition hit the market, the Saturn was already dead in the water.

I have to agree with MSZ, gaming consoles are just that, gaming consoles. Not a DVD/CD/VCD/DIVX/microwave/washing machine/TV/barbecue/etc, etc, player. Did you ever hear people complaining that the old NES didn't play audio cassettes? Or did you hear people complain that the old Atari 2600 didn't play 8-tracks? Of course not, they were made for games and just that, games. So I'm glad Nintendo made the GC to be a GAME ONLY console. You want to watch DVDs, get a flippin' DVD player. Besides, why would you want to watch DVDs on the PS2 or XBOX? They suck as DVD players compared to some high quality Sony or Panasonic DVD players.

Of course I do have to agree with Izumi in that Nintendo should have gone with DVDs a LONG time ago. They were going to revolutionize gaming back with the SNES by developing a CD-ROM drive...course that went down the toilet...so Nintendo could have done the same with DVDs and beat Sony...but in their retardedness they stuck with cartridges.

But you have to admit, the mini DVD media they use has been a good deterrent against piracy. But that's the ONLY good thing about not using DVDs.

Personally, I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to the PS3 and Revolution. I can only imagine how the next Metal Gear Solid game is going to look and holy frickin' monkey cow! The Revolution will play everything back to the NES? That's like an emulation/old school gamer's dream come true! No need to play around with stupid plugins to get certain games working right on emulators...you'll have perfect emulation with the Revolution! However, this throws a kink in my plans of building a SNES PC......

As for the Xbox....I'll quote the late Walter Mathau from Grumpy Old Men:

"Why don't you do the world a favor and pull your lip over your head and swallow" Laughing

I'm definitely looking forward to the Revolution with all those old games you can play on it. With my SNES giving slight colour glitches and I'm questioning the lifespan of the batteries in the cartridges, getting newer versions of these games is sounding real nice. Hopefully we'll be able to get third party games off it too.

If the Revolution has a harddrive to save these old games on, that would be nice. That way you don't have to start all over again or waste memory card space.

It's got 512MB of built in flash memory and SD card slots, don't think there's an HD. Though, I'm not absolutely sure, since I barely heard "flash memory" during the pre-E3 conference. The stream was pretty bad. :/

The flash memory is being used as an optional built-in hard drive. You can expand it with a memory card thing.

Flash memory is not a hard drive.

How much space would one of the old games take up anyway? Wouldn't seem like much.

I don't remember how big the NES carts are, so I'd just guess that 512KB would be max. SNES, a few MB maybe.

The PS3 and XBOX 360 look so good, however the Game Boy Micro was a waste of Nintendo's console-making time.

The Gameboy Micro isn't a console, nor, I'm sure, did it took a lot of time to make. It can't be too hard or time-consuming to smash a GBA into a smaller case than it's already in.

I have to agree that it was pretty redundant. I believe it was meant to target us 11-15 year-olds. Rather than a cramming a chunky SP down your pants. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that frickle to buy it for that reason.

Some people think that it stupid that the GBA keeps running. However, the GBA gives some feel that other hand-held systems can't give for some reason, so it's not really a bad idea. And a customization gimmick works weel. This is really a good idea for those who only had the clunky old GBA and thought aobut getting an SP but decided to wait (Like me :O)

Their customization idea is as original as Apple's widgets, people have been doing what is essentially the exact same thing with the older models.

How much will it cost? I mean, if it's like $100 you might as well buy a DS =\. You're probably going to want to get a DS sometime, anyway >.>;.

Based on its size, it doesn't look like it'll cost too much. Then again, the tinyest electronics seem to cost the most. Maybe even over $10o. There's no way Nintendo should make it even more expensive than the DS.
