I've been watching The Last Samurai reciently and it got me to thinking about Kenshin. What actual point in our history does it take place? I don't mean the Era, the year. I was watching the History vs Hollywood extra on the DVD, and they were talking about the banning of swords and Japan opening up to the west. From this, I have found that Kenshin takes place somewhere in the 1800s...
So, my question, am I right?  |

Yes, I believe it's the late 1800, don't know the exact year either.

I thought it was somewhere in the 1890's, since I believe the Meiji era was some time around that. I'm probably completely wrong, though.

Zan, you typoed XD Its 1890's.
But yes, the Meiji era was when Starone said. Glad to see another Kenshin fan :chat:

Yeah, I think it did take place somewhere around the Meiji era. But it depends on what series you are talking about. :]

The Meiji era began in 1868. Since they always say they are in the 11th year of Meiji, then the exact year should be 1879. It's cool how much you can learn from just reading this manga =P.

Ya... It takes place during the same time that the movie "The Last Samurai" does. Right after the end of the war.

The show takes place in the year 1879 during the meiji exactly ten years after the shoginite war of the tokogawa era.
