Has anyone ever heard of this anime/manga? I just recently became hooked(February) and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I've seen all three series of it, and own volume 1 of the manga. I really like this anime, and yes, it is the one that DragonBall, DBZ, and DBGT copied off. It's a really good anime, and is out in an english dub form as well with very few edits. Meaning yes, it has languages that parents should hide little ones from. It's really great, so if you haven't read the manga or seen the anime, I suggest you should shell out a few dollars from your cobweb infested wallet for either the manga or anime. I think it's worth it, but that's just me. Any other opinions?

There are a lot of anime based on the classic novel, but I'll bet you were talking about Gensomaden Saiyuki. The anime is great. Aside from the personality and characteristic changes, the anime follows the story quite well. It's definitely worth it, even if you don't know how the classic story went.

Anyway, DragonBall's story was based on the novel. It only changed when it hit DragonBall Z Sad .

They're both actually based on a Chinese legend (I don't remember the name) that's quite famous in Japan.

*EDIT: Oops, mis-read your post N2 ^^; 'sorry about that...
