moltanicman? who the blazes is that. if its true that aquamans dub name is spoutman im never using any dub names ever again. so i chnage i use sub names. |
Ironic considering your name >=3
Personally, I think Spoutman suits his childish nature a little bit more than Aquaman, so I'm not torn over this one. Besides, it's understandable as to why it WAS changed more than the others. |

Moltanicman=Napalmman. Had to be renamed because their are still Vietnam veterans in America that have mental breakdowns if they hear any word related to that war, such as Napalm.
Btw why is it that MMBN 1+2 changed all of the Japanese sounding names but then they didn't for the rest. Netto Meiru and Dekao are too foreign sounding for kids but Inukai, Tamako, Shuuko and Sunayama aren't? Makes no sense. |

Well they did with some, like Teruo/Terry. A lot of them, such as the main characters and MMBN1 characters, are just shortened versions of their original japanese names. |

I use the Japanese names. I like them better. I freely admit I've never played any of the games, and don't really recall the 'Megaman' cartoons. O_o;
But in a discussion with a friend on AIM, I agreed that I can't quite get why they did it for EXE/NT Warrior. In the original series 'Protoman' was the first robot, right? Prototype? Well... that doesn't work in this series very well. O_o; But~... I understand why they changed the Navi names... to go with the previous series and the games.
But I still whimper over the Ops' name changes. They make me cry. ;_; *snuggles Enzan Plushie... ^^;*
(*EDIT*.....I realized after I posted that might sound like a dub bash. O_o; Didn't mean for it to come out that way. Just that I don't understand all the reasoning and; personally' just don't like the dub names. ^^; ) _________________ Yes, I am the Neko..... NekoEnzan! <3 ^.^

It doesn't make sense that they'd stop trying as hard after a while?
For certain names, it's actually helpful and sensible that they "translate" them. Granted, in real life, names are not supposed to be translated, your name is said the same no matter what language it's said in. But these are fictional characters, and they just happen to be named specially to makes references and puns on their personality or theme. For instance, a Japanese gamer would know exactly what Hinoken means, but to us it doesn't make sense, so it's a good idea to translate the pun into our own language, so we get Mr. Match. And yes, for the names in BN3, they probably could have changed the names so they would make more sense to us, but they didn't. They probably figured it wasn't worth it. |

I go with the sleekest sounding for the humans. Lan. quick and simple. Enzan, quirky and cool. Repeat. For the navis I go with the originals. They're so much fun to use. Like Forte, Rockman, Blues, it's easier to use them in sentances. You try using the word "Bass" in a evil speech. =P See what I mean? |

I like the Japanese names better because I was first introduced to that.
I didn't even know Megaman is Rockman before I got my first 'Megaman' game :/
However I like to use 'Megaman' when I'm talking in English because the word 'Rockman' sounds strange in English IMO.
BTW I always have problem in pronouncing the word 'Bass' ._. _________________

Just by being here on REO has changed the way I talk when it comes to Megaman. I use sub names a lot more often. I think what really affected it was reading Ryouko-dono's reviews of episodes :D _________________

Which names do I perfer? Hmm.. To me, it depends on who it it.
Sometimes, I would use the original names (like YamatoMan and BurnerMan instead of JapanMan or BurnMan), but other times I use the character's US game name (like Eugene Chaud as opposed to Chaud Blaze).
Other times I WOULD use the dub names. I like TorchMan better, because it has a nice ring to it, and when I hear 'FireMan', I think of the person who FIGHTS fires, not STARTS them.
And then in some dub cases, such as SavageMan/BeastMan, SpoutMan/AquaMan, I understand that there are copyrights to their oringinal names, so no problem there. But I will admit, some changes are unnecessary (SpikeMan/NeedleMan and VineMan/PlantMan) and some are just plain... stupid (HEAVYMetalMan? WindBLASTMan? JunkDATAMan?? No -_-; ) |

I prefer the original names better. I also prefer the japanesse voices over the dubbed version, except for Freezeman, Heatman, and Protoman. _________________

Angelfan, could you please try to not resurrect old topics just to give a few words about it without much thought or explanation of why you like one version over the other?
Edit: Hurr Hurr, I totally didn't see it was the person above yours who resurrected the thread. >_> Sorry about that. _________________ Hecha en MÉXICO - Avatar by Me.

Even though I've seen more of the dub than the sub, I prefer the sub names. They just sound better to me. There are understandable changes, but there's very few cases where I actually like the new names over the originals. Examples: Savageman and Torchman. For the former, I dunno, it just seems more apt to his nature somehow [his dub voice fits well also, but that's another topic]. Torchman is for the same reason Dark Liger brought up, the association with firefighters [instead of fire starters-pyromanics if you will ]. >_> |

I dont know anyone who would preffer those Fake and corny names over the real ones which are always cool and fitting and theres no need to change them, we have enough Changed names in the english versions, No More Please! and specially if theyre Corny!
No offense but this topic shouldnt exist! nuff said :/
There is One Name they did nail..and that is Maylu..It sounds better than Mayl..but of course the Japanese Names are better and Mairu is best. :] _________________

i prefer the japanese names. ^v^
most of my (girl)friends use the japanese names, while the guys in out little groupie use the english ones. ahh, the arguements between us... so fun. XD you know, the "BASS IS NOT A FECKING FISH!" thing.
it seems alot of people use the english names when talking to someone who has never seen the subbed episodes. as for me, i just use the japanese names anyway. i love watching the other person's expressions when they go "who?? O_o???" :D good times...
