To Protect the One I Love: MiyukixSkullman/R/OS (G)

Since everyone's been contemplating if navi/human romance is possible, I decided to take a shot and write a fan fic about it. Enjoy! ^_^




Fall had once again dawned on the electric city. The leaves had begun to fade from green to gold, and the Yakimo vendors had started their daily rounds. In the park, not too far from the elementary school, couples could be seen together laughing and chatting, side by side as they walked together; brittle leaves crackling beneath their feet. There was especially one certain couple there, one with a bond of unbelievable trust and strength: A young girl and her navi.

Miyuki could feel the cool breeze brush against her face as she walked along the sidewalk, her breath forming light puffs in the air. Her cheeks flushed, a small smile tainting her lips. Autumn was Miyuki’s favorite time of year, not because of the holiday “All Hallows’ Eve”, but because of how beautiful it was to see nature change as the year approached to an end. As she continued walking, she could hear a small chuckle from her PET. “You like the fall, don’t you Miyuki-chan?”

The antique shop-owner looked at the screen of the Pet, nodding. “Yes, Skullman… I really enjoy the fall.” She stopped for a moment to sit down as her navi spoke up again. “Heh heh… you don’t smile very much, do you?” Skullman smirked. “You should do it more often; you have a cute mouth!” Miyuki frowned, slightly biting her lip. “There is nothing about me that is ‘cute’ at all.” She said, some what miffed. The skeleton navi cackled. “You’re even cuter when you’re mad, Miyuki-chan!” He teased. The fortuneteller snorted, turning her head away. “I never thought you would be this cocky out side of battle, Skullman.”

He looked up at her. “Speaking of which, how long have we been with each other?” Skullman asked his netop. Miyuki turned back to her PET. How long, indeed. She had possessed this powerfully, yet cheeky, navi for as long as she could remember. They had been through many battles together; some were won and some they had lost. The fortuneteller smiled again. “It has many years since we had fought together.” She said. “I’m very honored to have a strong navi like you.” Skullman grinned at her. “A man is willing to do anything to protect the one he loves, Miyuki-chan.”

Miyuki froze. An expression of shock plagued her face. “The one… you love?” She murmured. Realizing he had blurted out something personal, Skullman’s pasty complexion drastically went beet red, his arm scratching the back of his head. “Erm, um… y-yeah….” He stammered. “I do love you, Miyuki.” Miyuki’s face flushed. “Skullman…”

It was quiet for a long time, the both of them staring at one another. Finally, the silence broke as a nearby Yakimo vendor yelled out: “Sweeeeeet potatoes! Hot, delicious, sweeeet potatoes!!” Miyuki looked up. “That sounds rather good right now.” Skullman nodded. “You better get some before he runs out, Miyuki-chan.” He told her. Miyuki nodded back. “Alright.” She said. As she slowly got up, the antique shop-owner began thinking about what Skullman had told her a moment ago. “So he… is in love with me.” She thought. When she paid the vendor and walked off with her potatoes, Miyuki smiled once more. “Always protect me, Skullman...” She whispered.

“Always protect the one you love.”

Wow, Miyuki and Skullman. To be honest, I never saw THAT coupling coming, and it's nice to see a character who doesn't get nearly enough screen time now at least get props in a fanfic. A very intimate and well-written story you have here. The way you wrote this, Skullman initially struck me as a teaser and even a bit of a flirt, but glad everything worked out in the end. (Sweet potatoes...now I'm all hungry...)

Thanks! I wasn't sure what kind of relationship they had with each other (and I didn't really know what Skullman was like when he's not fighting... he was pretty funny in the manga series, though), so I tried writing it romantically in a different sense. I'm glad you liked it! ^^

Finally, a fanfic I can get interested in. Very touching. Skullman's my all time favourite navi so I always delight in seeing him get some attention. I love the originality of this piece as well. Thank you for writing it.

Besides my feelings for Miyuki, I have to say the fic has a really good catch. How you got skullman to flirt and remain in character was perfect, and I really liked how the story was balanced between the two characters without getting obvious or dense. The only "bad" thing I could point out is that it seemed like you were unsure how to begin the story.
