OT - My Fanfic

Hi! I read the fanart rules, but I couldn't find anything against posting my own art, which is kinda fanart, but kinda not, too. Lemme explain. I wrote a Harry Potter like story, using that world and its rules, but the characters in it are my own. Recently, I have been selected as a possible candidate to enroll Animation College (and there's only one in Holland, so that says ALOT), and I wanted to practice on some things before my second test, which will be a conversation between me and the college managers (gulps).

I used to work with Paint Shop Pro, but I know Photoshop is the standard, so I finally decided to give it a go. I used Maq's guide for it on her side (THANKS, MAQ! GREAT GUIDE!), and these are the first two results: the two main characters. Yorokei (the boy), and Bianca (the girl). They are wizard students, just like Harry Potter is, and well... That's about it. Please gimme lotsa comments on how to do better, cause this was my first try with Photoshop (and yes, I noticed I hardly use the dodge tool: Live with me :p.

Alrighty, ready for some critique? When you go to do the Level adjustments, you want to be careful. The lines look a little too jagged, so not taking the middle arrow so far to the right will help give the lines a softer appearance.

As for the shading, with these style drawings, I'd recommend using a more cell-style shading rather then using the gradiant or burn shading. It takes a bit of practice to get it right, but it does make things look nicer in the end.

All in all, good artwork. Keep it up, and good luck getting into animation.

A very well-designed set of pics. I'm not really qualified to comment on color considering I just started Photoshop and have yet to tap into it. What I'd like to say about these is the way you used shading effects in these pics are quite good. Yorokei looks as though he probably just realized he forgot to bring his wand to Snape's class and is in for a major chew-out, and Biance looks oh so innocent. Good luck in Animation College; you have great potential as far as I can see.

Cool pictures. I don't use photoshop that much because loading takes much too long and it doesn't do tablet work as well as paintshop. Good luck with the animation college.
