I seriously want this option back. Sometimes, I accidentally post at the wrong forum, and want to delete the post, when I find out "ah, the new forum doesn't have the delete button anymore!" and that frustrates me.

We never had it in the first place. XP Your very last post is the only one that can be edited or deleted, and only if nobody else has posted...I don't think it changed, did it?

Eh? We went over this way back when the new forum opened. It HAS changed. I notice the description "Edit/Delete this post" is attached to the Edit button, but there doesn't seem to be any option to delete while editing, not for regular users, anyway.

I thought you guys knew this and have been working on fixing it all this time. O_o

Well, I didn't know, but maybe one of the others did. :P

That's odd, the Edit and Delete buttons weren't combined for me. They're completely seperate in the little button panel.

Wait...I think Raijin is referring to the options in the panel below a post when one selects "Edit". There should be a little checkbox in the list that states "Delete this message", though it does not exist here. I have seen it on every other similarly coded board that I have visited.

In addition, other PHPBB boards have the most recent post in a thread with a little "X" button in the upper-right hand corner, next to Edit. That allows the user who posted the most recent reply to scrap itas long as it remains the most recent.

Personally, I think it may be a good idea to bring back such a function, but I fear it may be abused.

Actually, I was just talking about the image description for the Edit button. If you hover your cursor over it, "Edit/Delete this post" pops up, as if the key to deleting the post lies somewhere within, but it doesn't.

And yeah, on the old forum it was a separate button next to the edit button, as long as nobody posted after you. Now it seems only admins and mods have access to this button.

Are you given the delete button if you are the last to post in that thread?

We've never allowed users to delete their posts if someone has posted after them in the same thread. Otherwise someone could troll the forum, then just delete all the evidence.

*also removes this quote*

Couldn't people just quote them(when posting after them I mean)? Because trollers can delete their own posts but not other people's. I dunno, I'm sure there's some flaw in that. False quoting could go on I shpose... I dunno. Nevermind.

Well, with trolling, there will remain proof as long as there are sharp, watchful eyes on the board. The whole purpose of trolling is to get the attention of a person and slap mud in their face, and by that time someone else would have detected it and captured proof. There was a good example...but I cannot find it now. It's too hot to think very much here.

As I am the last to post in this thread, I am not given any option to delete this. Once I hit "Submit," it will post unless I request it to be dropped by one of you guys. I think that should answer Ryou's question.

All this skepticism is starting to feel like an insult to our intelligence. If you admins really think we're just blind, sign up with a regular account and see for yourselves.

At any rate, I don't think anyone is asking to delete posts after they've already been replied to. That's just not for trolling, it's also to avoid confusion. Deleting a post in the middle of a thread is barely ever a good thing. Deleting a post right after it was posted is practically a neccessity though. Making mistakes like replying to the wrong thread, posting in the wrong forum, and accidentily double posting are more common than they ought to be.

I'm still trying to figure that out, myself. Although I can't really tell on Discussion and Fanfics, at least here (and by "here" I mean this particular section of the forum) I can tell you can't delete your post regardless if it's the first or last post. So I back up Raijin on this.

Back when I wasn't a mod, I remember some parts of the forum allowed me to delete my previous posts and others didn't. Then again, that was forum V2. Such are the wonders of PHPBB.

I know, I'll take a screenshot. Just a sec...

Edit: Here it is.

As you can see, no post after mine, but no delete button.

Yup, I checked the whole forum.

I believe the whole "Edit/Delete this post" was a mere coding mistake, actually, something that was probably in a previous version but the designer forgot to take out. I can delete a post if I click the edit button at any of the forums I mod, but not everywhere else.

We're not saying we can't do that.

It's just a simple coding mistake, that's all. The edit button was never meant to be an edit/delete button. We're not going to pick a fight just for an alt attribute, are we? =P

I thought that you could delete your post if you were the last one to post, and if nobody else viewed it. I thought that once someone viewed it, you couldn't delete it. That's how I remember it being on the old forum.

Okay, I think we've beaten the point (that there is no longer a "delete" option for the last post) to death already. The question is, what do we want to do about it? :P

That'll be up to Nobi and depending on the coding of this personal forum style. I've seen it on a few other places and indeed doesn't have the delete button either in non 'edited' versions of it.

And Pitchums, please stop quoting the posts above yours to reply to them. It's above your reply, you don't need to quote.
