I been wondering what is the maxium that one can get to preset their chip.
I got between 40 to 50 Mb in the whole game, any game. Is there another way to get any more? Some chips like navi chips take almost 99 Mb. _________________ Avatar by May, many flowers and thanks for the wonderful avatar. |

I believe the maximum in BN3 and 4 is 50. Why some chips exceed that beyond the point of 51 I'll never understand... O_o _________________ I think it's time to say goodbye. |

I believe that every RegUp that exists in BN2, 3, and 4 will make your maximum total of Regular Memory 50MB. Thus, no chip higher than this amount can be set as a regular.
BN3 had the program Reg+5, which did as it's named: +5MB to Regular Memory. That would make the maximum in one game 65MB, but with the ability to trade programs between carts, it is possible to have a setup so that one can place ProtoMan as the regular chip. If you think about it, only 4 Reg+5 programs can be placed without bugging the NC or touching the command line:
[1][1][1][_][_]
[2][2][2][_][_]
[_][_][_][_][_]
[3][3][3][_][_]
[4][4][4][_][_]
That should make the absolute maximum 70MB.
Pitchums, I'm surprised that you can't think of a good reason. The high MB is most likely there to ensure that it would NEVER be set as a regular, no matter how much effort is put into it. Would YOU want to be the unfortunate player who can get hit by a FlashManv5 on turn one? Or get a ZeusHammer to the face? Or face the wrath of Bass on turn one? Didn't think so. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! o_O there are navi cust Reg Up programs?
Yeah, I don't own BN3, so I never knew that. I figured the max was 50, no acceptions. Okay so then, why there's any MB over 70 I don't understand. _________________ I think it's time to say goodbye. |

The MB amount is partly for show. Like the amount of stars, it's an indication of how strong or valuable the chip is. Even if you can't feasibly get over 50 MB, it doesn't make sense for ALL stong chips to have 51 MB. Would it look right for a Giga Chip like HolyDream to have the exact same capacity as a regular old MetaGel? I don't think so. |

I'm afraid not. Bugstopper takes up too much room. With it in the Customizer, only 4 Regular+1 programs would fit anyway. _________________ (\ ºvº\ (\

I beat the game, so I restarted it...with 99 MB. Thank you, Gameshark. Having Serenade as a Regular Chip is SOOO fun. I know, it's cheating, but if I already got everything there is to get in the game aside from Punk and ForteGS, I'm looking for something fun. So, I started the game with Serenade as a regular chip. _________________ EXEHQ. Click now, I demand it.

I could try to prove it rigorously...but it would involve a lot of topology and a lot of effort. Though I love math, I'm not up to a tiling proof. Maybe later.
And StarMan, cheating is bad, m'kay? _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy

I took a look at it, and it turns out BN3's BugStop isn't as huge as I remember. You can fit in at least five Reg+5 pieces in. Like so.
[2][2][2][5][6]
[1][3][4][5][6]
[1][3][4][5][6]
[1][3][4][_][_]
[1][1][1][1][_]
There are still three spaces left over, so you might be able to straighten that gap out to fit in a sixth, but I don't have the patience to figure out how, if it's possible. |

Huh... I haven't a clue why I was thinking Regular+1s were 4 blocks long... D'oh.
As far as I can figure, the best you can do is 5 Regular+1 programs, even if you compress the Bugstopper as shown below.

Only Bugstopper can be compressed, as I just noted. Reg+1 programs cannot. _________________ (\ ºvº\ (\

I thought my block WAS compressed. o_ó
Okay, once I actually compressed the stupid thing, I did find one way to fit in six Reg+5 blocks. Probably not the cleanest possible way, but here it is.
[1][2][3][3][3]
[1][2][4][4][4]
[1][2][_][B][5]
[6][6][6][B][5]
[B][B][B][B][5]
So max MB in BN3 is 80.
Pyo, quit calling them "Regular+1". We DO get a whole 5, y'know. :P |

*tears up proof and incinerates pieces*
Well, you beat me to it. Good job, you guys. Rai, as long as it contains six blocks, there's no reason for it to be "clean." It gets the job done. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! Well, you could theoratically get 90MB, but you'd really badly glitch up your Navi Customizer:
[1][2][3][3][3]
[1][2][4][4][4]
[1][2][_][5][6]
[7][7][7][5][6]
[8][8][8][5][6]
There, that'll give you 90MB. And a nasty 7.5 HP/sec HP drain bug at the Custom Window, but that's beside the point. _________________ Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x]. |
