About Narcy, I'd also like to point out that his name gives a nod to the Narcissus myth. Y'know, the one where that gay guy looked into a pond, fell in love with his reflection, and ended up drowning himself trying to kiss it.

Yeah, that too, but I mostly see his first name (which comes after his last name in the japanese version) that reflects his NAVI.

And Saito = Site :P Enzan literally = flame mountain, or something about operation. Laika is named after the Russian instrument balalaika, or the first dog in space. And when did Jasmine become a jewel? :P I thought it was the flower.

There is no prof that EXE and Dash Barrel are related, they just have the same name.

Are you just associating things with characters Zetto? Because I think a bunch of those are just completly random.

Indeed. Jasmine is not much else other than a plant. Perhaps you were thinking of olivine, or some other mineral.

A lot of them do seem random or incorrect. ^^; There's a pretty recent topic about this, though, isn't there?

You have the myth wrong I am afraid my young friend. In the myth/legend it says that the man felt that he was the most lovely of all men and when he saw his reflection in the pond he fell in love with the image, not takeing his eyes off of it. His love of his own image caused him to turn into a flower, the flower now has his name and grows on the side of ponds normally. Another part of the legend is that the pond had a spirit in it named Echo, she was cursed that she could not speak unless spoken to and then could only repeat what was said to her. She fell in love with him but couldn't voice her love and he was too much in love with himself to notice. It wasn't that he was gay, which there was never a statement that he was from the legends and myths that I have read and heard, so you must have been fed some false information.

Josuke said the EXE5 concept art page mentioned Barrel.exe was named after Legends Barrel. I don't get it either since the two characters have nothing in common besides their name.

Are you sure the reference is that direct? Because I think most people are more familiar with the term "narcissistic" rather than the myth it's based on.

As for the list...can't this just be based on specific questions? Making too many shakey claims at once is asking for trouble, I think.

I know. I shortened it and bastardized it on purpose. If memory serves, though, he did drown in one version of the myth.

I thought that Jasmine was also a type of jewel? Also just because I said the names of Shuko and Barrel are derived from MML characters didn't mean that they WERE those characters. What about the others were RANDOM?

I doubt I drink crystal shards instead of leaves.

Netto's kanji literally means Heat Spot, so if you find that Babel fish is off, it's only a pun.

Midorikawa means green river, translate it to the fullest.

That's "Jasper", Zetto. :P And the other name translations don't seem all that likely, considering. I'm not sure how you derived "salad" from "Saloma". >_>

Jasmine is only a flower I'm afraid, you might be thinking of a mineral with similar pronounciation perhaps, but a jasmine is just a white flower known to have important curative uses, most of which are usually directly applied on the skin.

Woodman, woo, plants, shrubbery, salad. I think I got that association more from her english name, simply 'Sal'.

Also, I only knew that Midori meant green, which is why I didn't put the translation for kawa since I didn't know it.

I also put this:

Like I said, the list was asking for trouble. More possible mistakes means more nitpicking in return. And Josuke hasn't even commented on it yet.

The Sal-ad thing is way too shakey only the first three letters actually match up, and since we're dealing with another language here, that could mean a world of difference.

That's the whole point, they write pretty clearly "He's named after that famous digouter" obviously Barrel.

Remember that Narcy isn't his real name, his real name is Hidenosuke Yamada, Narcy hide is a punnish nickname given to him because he's such a narcisistic bastard in the TV industry

Saroma is named after a famous lake in Hokkaido, Saloma is a spanish sea chanty. me and Chase go with Saroma due to the Hokkaido name, but many use Saloma because it sounds alot sweeter and cute =^^=
