I'd go with the Halo franchise.

Reasons:

- Not everything was all hunky-dory in the Halo Universe (It's just realistic.). Example: U.N.S.C. military has a very low morale and had to conscript young children for their SPARTAN program

- SPARTAN training was a double-edged sword and it was controversial since it did involve kidnapping gifted children and conscripting them for military training. It was more of a necessary evil because they were needed in future battles against the Covenant

- Master Chief is NOT your typical Hollywood action hero and matured a lot throughout all three novels. Fall of Reach: Starts off as your typical kindergarten bully that wants to win at everything, has to learn about teamwork the hard way, and finally, lessons about losing allies in vain or for a better good.

- Good character development for people like Keyes (how the guy became what he was before the Flood incident).

- Originality is somewhat canonized for the games as in it's supervised by Bungie (example: Halo 2 elements added in on First Strike, Sergeant Johnson's survival)

Well, I haven't read any of the novels for games that I play, but I have read a manga for Warcraft. Both the art and the story are surprisingly good, keeping true to the events, ideas, and looks of the Warcraft world, while still integrating a manga visual style. The Undead look weird, though. -.-

Hm.

Rebel Moon. That's the only book I 've read or even knew was made for a video game.

Actually, come to think of it there were some books made based on Megaman and Mario and stuff like that, but they hardly classified as "novels". Mechanical Maniacs has one of those Megaman books scanned into the site.

I´ve the novels of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Code Veronica and I like them. I know that I´m going to read what I´ve seen in the game, but they do great descriptions and leaves and important part to the characters thoughts and fears, something that we don´t see in the game.

I don't like Video Games into novels. It sort of defeats the purpose of playing the game in my books.

I adored all three of the Myst novels. They stand just fine on their own and add a lot of history to the games. Beautiful story and characters just like the games.

Out of the games, Exile is my favorite. Hee.

Well, I like the "side-story" novels because it just gives us the feel that the heroes are "doing their thing" in between the games. Regarding the game-based novels, Halo just rocked the world period and it does not conflict with the games' storyline and just gave a different perspective (the novels were giving an "anti-war" message and a lot of morals.) on things.

Hey! Of course not. It's too bad about that though. They are actually very well written books. Good choice to read.

The only novel I've read that's based off a videogame was Wizards and Warriors. Good game, good book. I chose it for my book report in 8th grade, got like an A- on it too!

Is it okay if it's manga (manga=graphic NOVELS)?

Let's see....the first has to be Rockman EXE. the 2nd is Pokemon Special....the manga is really good and quite really long.

Yikes, loop-hole. Now that you mention it, Graphic novels and chapter books are fine.

Oh come on. Every video game in existance has some half-assed manga made for it. That makes it too easy. The non-graphic novels for video games are more special.

Yeah. Now that I'm more squared a way, S.D. Perry seems to have a fetish for writing out Rebecca. Almost everyone in the novels is more like "Ooh, Rebecca is a smart kid" "Ooh, Rebecca is resourceful." It kind of turned off the fans of the game, and I kind of agree. Sad

But if you've already played and beat the game then it doesn't defeat the purpose at all.

I never got a chance to read Splinter Cell or the Rainbow Six series of Tom Clancy books, but I hope I get a chance to.

Terry pratchet wrote discworld novels, and 3 games were made from the novels. Discworld, Discworld II and Discworld Noir (noir is not a sequel of II)

The Redsident Evil novels. A perfect combination of the two seperated storylines into one.

I have:

- The Umbrella conspiracy
- City of the dead
- Nemesis

Those so far.
