ok this Topic is about how you got into Anime and what was the first Anime you saw.

well for me it was when I was growing up. My dad watched this Anime called "Robotech" he had recorded all the episodes on tape from when it first came on TV and I would watch them all the time as a child. Then I couldn't find any good anime till i was at my friends house watching cartoon network late at night and saw anime like hack/sign and gundam wing and trigun which are really cool so i watch them and now im a ANIME FREAK #.#

My first anime was Gundam Wing I think. XD I actually didn't get into anime until I was 12-ish, because while I lived in Japan the American children's cartoons were more popular. Like Powerpuff Girls and The Flinstones XD

When I was little, I watched several anime TV series without knowing they were anime.. and thus I can only guess which was my first one.. could've been Queen Millennia or Saber Rider or any of the older series. But some of the first (knowing the origin) that really impressed me were The Hakkenden OVA, EVA OVA and Akira (movie). I wouldn't call myself a freak though, and I enjoy a high quality anime (preferably movie) with a decent and deep story more than light-hearted slap stick series :p Which goes for any other kind of cartoon or motion picture; it's not like I would not watch anything else because it is not Japanese animation X3

My first anime, when I was about 8 or something, was Warriors of the Wind. Well, I didn't know it was anime then. All I knew was that it wasn't like the other cartoons I was familiar with. Not even Disney. I loved it and watched it many times.

Many years down the road, my neighbor showed me Guyver (no subtitles, but I didn't care) and Akira (the original dubbed version). That was when I first got a direct interest in anime, and not just a movie that happened to be anime. Once I managed to get ahold of money, I started renting anime from Blockbuster, and once I got a job, I started buying anime from Suncoast/Sam Goody. I made a search for Warriors of the Wind, wanting to see it again and especially wanting to see the manga story because I was sure there was one. That's when I found out about Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind and realized there was more to the movie I used to know as Warriors of the Wind. And of course I also found out about Miyazaki-sama at that time and started to get ahold of things like Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service.

These days, anime and games are the primary focus of my existence. I should probably pay more attention to my job, but I haven't been kicked out, so I must be doing something right.

EDIT: And from the looks of things in this thread, I may be the only one on the site who saw Warriors of the Wind.

I can't remember mine that well, but I think it was Teknoman. Anyone remember it? It was good, but of course I didn't know it was anime back then (it was out years ago). I'm looking for episodes of it to watch it again, anyone know where to find them?

My first is, or in this case, are those Super Robots. Those would be Grendizer, Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Voltes V, Daimos, etc. Those we're big hits here when I was still very young.

Robbie the Robot, when I was just a tyke (we actually have it on tape somewhere)... but I didn't know it was anime at the time. Pokémon would be when I made that realization...

My first anime was Dragonball, back when they only showed 13 eps and then started airing DBZ.
Now that was really confusing.

@ narutotan: There is a nice little button called "Spoil" for something like you said. For the love of all that is good, PLEASE USE IT. Thank you for letting me know what happens to one of the most addicting shows I watch right now.

Anyway, back on topic... First was Robotech, Macross Saga. I still love that show. *clings onto her boxset* I knew it wasn't made in America simply due to the fact that Rick and Roy and everyone else were... Wimpy looking. Not those huge muscular guys you'd see in an American cartoon. Oh, and Max. There was no way a character like him would have been created in America. XD

Then followed Sailor Moon(a closet addiction series.. I swear!), Speed Racer, Samurai Pizza Cats, some random movies my dad picked up on LazerDisk(Like the WannaBe's, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and one I can't remmeber but was very intertaining about this girl who was a police type person and had to wear a harness to surpress her strength, had a yen-shaped hairclip, and trouble with money...)..

Ah, good times......

Oh yeah... I forgot about Speed Racer. I guess that was in between Robbie the Robot and Pokémon... And don't feel bad. After Pokémon came Sailormoon, and there was even a Dragonball Z period for me.

Hmm...I can't remember mine, but I think it may have been Sailor Moon, then Pokemon, and then Digimon. I didn't really care about anime (or didn't know it was anime) at that time either. I think I got into anime early last year. (Okay, I've been watching anime for more than 2 years, I think, but didn't really care).
