The time in the top left I'm assuming.

I really don't see anything wrong with them, since most of the time the important stuff is in the middle and not the top let.

Going along with what Shonshiwo15 said. To make it more computer like they show binary code alot.

But if you mean numbers in the screen caps, thats the time it airs. Some shows in Japan have clocks. We should do that in the states. Smile

... why?

Also, it's not the shows themselves that have them, it's the station that airs them.

Yeah. You know how, over here, the station shows their little logo in the bottom-right corner (though I've started to notice in the left lately)? I'm guessing that stations in Japan show a clock instead... you know, to actually give the damn corner-filler some purpose.

American stations don't need the time posted anywhere on the screen, heck Japanese stations don't need it either. Most television sets these days have clocks built into them, and if someone doesn't have such a TV, they should at least have a ton of other clocks spread throughout their household. There may be the odd family with no digital devices within a hundred miles except their out-dated clockless TV, but then they could always turn to their trusty sundial.

...*gasp!* Unless it was cloudy! Oh no, you're right! All TV shows must have clocks super-imposed on them! There will be no way to tell time otherwise!

*cough* >_> With that logic, why put clocks in the corner of computers?

ok the reason there is a Clock in the conner of the screen is because the guy who recorded the episode had a clock on his setup on his TV OR a timed VCR set to record at that time. Would you really want to see 8:34 in the conner of Megaman NT Warrior when you are watching it when it is really 4:34 #.#

Did you even read the rest of the thread, which is mostly composed of correct answers?

I was suggesting since modern society already has more clocks than it knows what to do with (computers included), there's really no need for yet another one as part of TV stations, especially when TVs already have clocks that can be hidden when not needed.

Also remember that Japan is all in one timezone while North America is not. Since most western stations will broadcast over several time zones, one clock would be inconsistent, and multiple clocks would just be clutter. So at least in that sense it makes more sense for the Japanese to put clocks there, but not out here.

Just for the heck of it I counted all the time-telling devices in my house at the moment.
3 clock radios
4 TVs, though one isn't plugged in, it still tells time.
2 VCRs
4 oldschool mechanical clocks
3 computers with the time display enabled
4 wrist watches (most of which are mine)
4 phones/cell phones (none of which are mine)
1 DVD Player
1 Microwave
1 Stove with a digital clock for when we don't want to turn our heads to see the one on the microwave three feet away.
1 thermometer
and 1 calculator/clock hybrid sitting on the main computer desk that I call a "clockulator"
oh, and the thermostat outside my room, which I just noticed when I got up to leave.

and if all that fails, I can call up "time" and have the automated voice tell me what time it is.

muussst be cooonsstantly awaaare of tiiiime....

It's an evil plot to make weird American episode downloaders annoyed at the time stamp, and eventually give in by importing all the DVDs...

Yes, the televised episode (and therefore the fansubs) do.

Err, weren't the EXE subs done from DVD rips and didn't have the timestamp on them? I could've sworn it wasn't until Axess that the subs were done from TV rips.

Some of them were DVD rips; many were not. Depending on which arc of the series it was.
