True. The tournament should've been just a part of the game and not the whole thing. Randomly chosen scenarios... bah. But yeah, even the N one was only part of the game, albeit a pretty large part, but certainly not the whole thing.

What Midnight Critic said is true also. BN three's folders were more phun to play with. In the second game, multiplayer netbattles turned into a competition of who could press the A Button first, thanks to PAs like Gater and Body Guard. Four's folders usually consist of the same thing, except for combos like Psycho Bouncer or Silver Bullet. BN three's folders actually allow you to battle. Lot more phun.

Let's-a see...

MMBN1: Good for getting us used to the system, bosses that weren't insanely-maul-you-for-good hard, and simple.

MMBN2: Introduced the Style Changes, tougher bosses,an AWESOME array of chips, great music, very good story and development,a Secret Area that'll make you drool with excitement (maybe that's just the music),some of Lan dreaming about Mayl *bricked* Obviously,a big improvement and a success.

MMBN3: What should've probably been the last part of the series. The difficulty is higher (not quite more than MMBN2's), a decent chip selection, BAM! Enter Navi Customizer! And of course, the cheaper bosses and that awesome tourney.

MMBN4: Quite a flop, but still good. Allowed us to play a little "tourney" if you traded navis with a friend (as in Soul Unison navis),is good for mainly that, and allowed you to battle a beatable mirror-version of yourself.

MMBN5: Very nice, takes more to access the stronger chips, but is still nice.

From greatest to least...

2->5->3->1->4

BAM!

Out of the ones I've played:

My order goes 2 > Transmission > 3 and 1 > 4 > BCC.

The biggest reasons I feel that 2 was the best are because of the chip set-up (none of that MEGA or GIGA crap) and the story. I find them to be the best in the series.

I loved BN2 back in my grade school days I went omg Lan said a bad word!
-Darker storyline
-The mild language was awsome(for a rated E game)
-Violence
-A pretty hard final boss that wasn't annoying like Alhpa or Duo

Battle Network 2 was definitley my favorite. The story was much better than in...say... BN 4 :grr: Next is BN5. I love the ability to use all my team navis in liberation missions. I wish they would have kept the Kagebunshin chips Sad

My favorites go:

BCC > BN2 > BN3 > BN5 > BN4

My main reason for liking BCC the best, is because I love being able to select my character and than use whatever navi I want (besides for the style changes which I have no idea how to get). I like BN2 for the same reasons everyone else does. BN3 was my first (rock/mega)man game. For BN5 I enjoyed being able to use different characters (If only you could use Tomahawkman or someone for the whole game). And BN4 just sucked. Plain & simple

The second Battle Network was by far the best, in my opinion. The first one was too short and easy for me. I believe I beat the game in about two days, over the weekend, or something of the sort.

The second game was amazing. A lot more Battle Chips to choose from, more difficult bosses, styles, no multiversions, and overall I just enjoyed the game more.

The third game was okay, but I'd pretty much spoiled the game for myself, by checking spoilers and GameFAQs (Maybe I'm not such a good guy, after all?). I can't say I favor the whole multiversion deal, it's more troublesome for a gamer - both moneywise and timewise. I'm also pretty bad with the customizer, it was frustrating to me at the beginning.

Pretty much the same deal for the fourth, although I still have yet to beat it. I've lost most interest for the game, though I'll probably start playing it again. Have yet to play anything after the fourth game.

Played Battle Chip Challenge, it's an okay game, I guess. I played it a while ago, don't remember much about it.

Well I just got BN5 today, and it pretty much renewed my interest in the BN series, for now anyway. It may be early but so far, I have to say BN5 is my favorite, it put me in a good mood which saying alot considering I'm generally a pessimistic downer. The music is wonderful (IMO the best of the EXE Series yet, even better than BN3's), they brought back some of the older enemies, the new chips like Buster Up provide a convienient twist to battles and the real fun's only just started. It definatley reassures that EXE is my favorite of the 3 currently active Rockman series. Though I've only started playing, for now my ranking is...

3->2>5-1>>>>>>>>4

BN3 was the best game for me for a few key points. Fluent storyline that chained PERFECTLY after the ending of BN2. It was its pure continuation and it worked perfectly. Long story, great chip selection, chip cathegorization, NaviCustomizer with codes, BugStyle, enthralling secret chapter and best game tracks of the whole series. But it had a big flaw. Two versions. Hence why it's almost on the same spot of BN2, just VERY SLIGHTLY above of it.

BN2 was maybe the greatest of them all, since it fulfills its own schemes perfectly. I just find BN3 "bigger", hence why I like BN3 better. Great story, nice battlechips, introduction of style changes as a part of the story, awesome secret chapter music.

BN5 is on the same level of BN1, because of a few reasons. BN1 is a great game, but it lacked the * code for battlechips, wood chips were almost non-existant and I liked the LifeSword PA in the other games much better than the one in BN1. If I wanted to use swords singularly, I'd just use them by myself... the undernet server looked exactly like the rest of the net, so I'm glad that they changed that in the next games. The storyline is very nice, I find kinda funny how the W3 complains about getting the LifePrograms all by themselves. Great game to learn your ropes. BN5 has a lot of + points, but a lot of - points as well. Great Souls, a wood Navi that finally has some DIGNITY (I mean... Woodman? Snakeman? PLANTMAN?) liberating missions and being able to play with other Navis. But on the minus side.... for once, you can play as Netto's friend navis, and you kidnap Roll??!?!?! Also nerfed (AND HOW!) chips, you need to depend on ChipCharge and Full Synchro way too much, storyline on a lower level than its previous games, even if good, but still not as good. The game's got a long enough plotline, but some parts could've been done better. I also don't really like Barrel and Enzan saying almost EXACTLY THE SAME THINGS in the two versions of the game. Still a great game after all.

And now, the abyss. BN4. OH MY GOD CAPCOM, WHAT HAS MEGAMAN DONE TO YA TO TREAT HIM LIKE THAT? Shortest story EVER, stupid sidequests, unfair navi battles, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT CIRCUS TENT YOU CALL WOODSOUL ROCKMAN? Nerfed NaviCustomizer programs and battlechips, you also brought back FireMan for FireSoul, WHY ThunderMan for ThunderSoul? Elecman all the way, biatches! I wanted Elecman! Ugly network system and cheesiest world maps EVER. And on top of that? You must play the game three times before you can unlock the secret chapter, which also happens to be short and definitely not worth it. Go, Capcom.

EXE1: Possibly a good start to the EXE series. The Internet was rather difficult to navigate around without the specific location to inform you of your location. Music was great, and the battles were somewhat addicting.

EXE2: My first EXE game. The storyline was intense, and the Style Changes (Wood Guts) whooped uber ass. Program Advances were so fun to abuse here.

EXE3: Better than EXE2. Graphical upgrades towards the menu were excellent, and the internet's more vibrant. The Navi Customizer was a new touch to this game, and I could abuse it with the ModTools. Style Changes returned, minus the capaacity for 2 Styles.

EXE4: Blargh. Time consuming. Playing the same thing repeatedly was enough to blow your brain. Music was rather terrible compared to the first three. Soul Unisons were the best style changes so far, despite the 3-turn limit. Unfortunately, this proved to be uber trash.

EXE5: There we go... we're right back on track. Liberation Missions are so fun to do, with all the liberating to complete. Music returned to the levels of EXE2 and 3; I nearly cried XD. Soul Unison and three returning souls are another feature to this game, with a ebil but nice twist: Chaos Unison. An opportunity to control Dark Chips without the dire consequences. We also had a chance to play as other Navis, and that was a great addition to EXE5.

Yet to play Twin Leaders.

IMO, EXE2, 3, and 5 were the best EXE games.

Best? By far Network/EXE 2. Great story, real-life situations, brilliant characters, tough bosses (Magnet was a b***h), good PA's (GATER), a good final twist, and then some. I did enjoy BN/EXE1 as well. (How could you not? It's the reason this all happend!!) BN/EXE5 was enjoyable because it was different and had something quite new and innovative (Liberate Missions), much like EXE 4.5.

I did not enjoy 3 as much as I thought I was going to (No good plot twist, easy bosses (Drillman WAS a pushover, I beat him on my first try), final boss was pretty simple to figure out, good chips, though, but the jobs were quite boring after a while). Nor did I enjoy BN/EXE4. It had the potential to be good, but Regal came in at a bad time, the lack of story development was rather annoying, but the boss battles were decent, and the addition of souls was a new idea, but overall I disliked the game with a passion.

Once again, BN/EXE2 is by far my favorite, with BN/EXE1 and BN/EXE5 coming in at a close second and third.

With that being said, every new game introduced a new concept. EXE2 gave us styles, EXE3 gave us the NaviCustomizer, EXE4 gave us souls, and EXE5 gave us liberate missions. I wonder what to expect from EXE6...

I don't have the heart to compare them, so I'll just put what I think about them.

MMBN- The first one! This was the 4th on I owned, so I was a little bit surprised at how far they progressed since this one. Battle system was good, despite an akward ADDing system. The internet was huge and mazelike, so I had a hard time finding my way around. The plot was decent, abeit being short and sorta childish. Bosses were overall WAY too easy though. Elecman and Protoman, for example. While others were cheap (Colorman, Sharkman, and Magicman) But the beginning had a certain charm to it. And Numberman's stage has one of my favorite BN music.

MMBN2- Boss difficultly raised, Stylechanges, good plot, excellent music, what's not to like? Oh yeah, and the imfamous '' Mayl, I am your Captain speaking...'' moment. I rarely laugh out loud when I play video games, but I did then. Wonder why Megaman didn't tell his friends about that ? It would've been hilarious!

MMBN3- The first BN title I owned. A complex plot, a nice variety of bosses, and Final Boss music for the ages. Oh yeah, NaviCust, 'nuff said.

MMBN4- While I appreciate it more now than I did after completeing it, it's still a giant step backwards from the rest. The goofy sprites and mugshots turned many people off, but I found them to be okay, even though the small size bugs me. Soul Unison is cool, though the actual souls could've been better. It started out promising, but the tournaments dealt it a mortal blow so that when it started to kick back into gear at the end, it was too late. Cheap final boss, though now I can breeze through Duo.

MMBN5- REDEMPTION! While it kept the cartoonish graphics, BN5 had a coherent storyline, with many returning faces. Liberation missions were cool, but could be a bit more intricate. Playing as other navis though, is awesome. And with the return of A. Kaida, the music is some of the best I've heard in MMBN, better than the largely mediocre tunes in 4. The chips aren't terribly good though, which makes it more challenging :]. Overall, a great game, one of my favorite videogames.

The first two games are the best IMO. It's what a few of the previous posters said (Sorry for not mentioning your names, guys). The story was believable, and we were able to have fun with the game period.

The other three however was reduced to a Pocket Monsters rip-off (Oh, get two versions so we can just steal your money.) On top of this, the battle system is royally messed up due to four reasons:

A. The Navi Customizer: EXE 3 had the cumbersome "use required program to get past barrier." EXE 4 addressed the problems, but I just plain don't like the customizer

B. Unreasonably steep difficulty: I could barely get a decent rank against any of the story characters from EXE 3 and EXE 4. Does that tell us something?

B. Nerfed Normal Rockman status (I used to do 80 HP damage in EXE 1, but on 2-5, I can only do 50 HP damage.),

C. Royally messed up chip system: EXE 4 and EXE 5 are the primary problems since Capcom lazily removed the Add button and replaced it with the Soul Unison button. Sure, it does make certain souls useful, but the "Use soul for three times" part just doesn't justify the strategy period. Example: Number Soul is the most useless soul except for the fact that you can use ten chips. How about those of us that want to use our favorite souls? Where does that leave us? I keep getting more defeats than victories just due to the badly chosen chips the game gave me.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that you don't like the recent games because they're getting harder? I have no problem with that since it's your opinion, but just saying that's what it sounds like.

To me I think the recent games have gotten more complicated, and made you think more. They make you use strategy and think about your folder. I guess my order from favorite to least would be 3-5-4.5-4&2-1.

BN3 was the first BN game that I owned, and I loved everything about it. It's my favorite story wise, and I thought the secret areas and Undernet ranking system was awesome.

BN5 was really fun, and I liked being able to play as different characters. It would have probably been my favorite if they introduced a few more new Navis, and perhaps had a longer story.

4.5 was just plain cool, I thought it was fun to just play around with your Navi basically, not much else to say.

BN4 & 2 were both fun but I can't really choose between them. Having to play the game three times over was annoying in 4, but I loved the Soul Unisons and the final boss is my favorite and was also the hardest out of all of them to me. BN2 was good, but some parts were annoying and I didn't really like some of it.

I don't really remember BN1 all that well, and I kind of breezed through the story. So it's my least favorite because I don't really remember much of it, I'd have to play it again to give a decent opinion on it.

3>5>2>1>4>BCC XD

Nuff said. If I elaborated, I'd be repeating what people were saying earlier.
EDIT: I never played 4.5, not knowing any Japanese, so I can't say anything about it. Same goes for Transmission.

2>5=3>WS>4>1>BCC =P

I didn't really liked the first one...
I don't really remember why, I just know I didn't like it XD

I liked WS a lot XD
Fun side-scroller Rockman.EXE =D

2 was the first game I played, and it owns.
Everything in it is great.
A new Feature, the styles.
They are fun =D

3, the start of the 2 versions XD
Good game, fun to play, but 2 is still better.
And Heat Shadow style ownz.

BCC is just lame.
No plot, no control, nothing.

I don't like 4 mostly because i needed to finish it 3 times to fight Forte and to finish it compleatly.
The soul unisons are fun =D
But no more styles :<
The tormaments were lame and annoying.
The Shademan part is the worst bart in all the EXE games >>

5 was very good too.
[spoil:51f4fd30c1]Shadow soul, Knight soul, Magnet soul, Forte Cross Rockman, Chaos unisons are great.[/spoil:51f4fd30c1]
I didn't really like the liberation missions, but it's okay.
I liked the whole team thing.
