On shorter games. For example, in X8? It works well. You can play through that game in an hour or two. But with an RPG? With all kinds of dialogue and random virus battles and such? It takes way too long, and it's just plain no fun. One playthrough in EXE4 wasn't that astounding to begin with, much less two more with higher difficulty. _________________

Shorter areas are merely to be expected considering how feature rich EXE has become. Sure EXE1 has generally longer areas, but it didn't have Souls or Styles, or the Navi Customizer, or other playable Navis, or Operation Battle, or e-Reader card support. These things take up space, not to mention that with the games coming out in two versions, both need to have almost all the same data so they can interact.
Regardless, I guess some of the things I pine for are...
-The job board. Sure it was a little annoying to be forced to do jobs to move the story along, but it also served as a good distraction if you didn't feel like pushing ahead with story events.
-Traditional story themes. I liked that in the first three games Lan and MegaMan weren't really self-proclaimed superheroes. Sure they were valiant and saved the world and all, but they never really went looking for trouble. Now when something goes wrong, they immediately take it upon themselves to fight for the solution. It's just a bit cliché, and I miss scenarios like the airplane scenario in BN2.
-Speaking of clichés, no more darkness. I'm getting tired of fighting "darkness." It makes for such a vague, cop-out antagonist, and pretty much every popular game series/anime does it. So yeah, no more dark chips and Darkloids and dark-whatever.
-More new Navis. One of the most enjoyable things about EXE for me was finding the new Navis to see how creatively they were redesigned from the original characters. However, in each next BN game the number of new Navis reduces. BN5 only has nine new Navis total, and four are originals. Yes I'm aware that Capcom risks running out of robot masters to turn into Navis, but they still have a fair deal left, at least enough to get them to game #8, the theoretical bottleneck of all MegaMan series.
-More operators. Boss Navis rarely have operators now, and there's also a lack of unique operators who are just standing around for no other reason than challenging you. I miss them.
-Unique secret areas. It's not so much now that they're just ripoffs of the Undernet and don't even have their own theme songs, but they don't have unique Navis either. That's really a drag, and aside fromt he challenging battles the later secret areas really don't offer anything worth the playing to access them in the first place.
-The original theme song. Though I admit, bringing it back now would be awkward. I guess I wish they just never changed it in the first place. Not that the new theme is bad, BN5's musician did a great rendition of it, though ironically he wrote the original theme too. But while I guess I'm on the subject of music, I miss when the last boss theme and boss encounter theme were remixes of the general boss theme.
I guess that's all that comes to mind now. |

I just thought of another two
C-slider in exe 4 (not sure if this is the real name) but they're a short cut and allows you to get from one path to another in a shorter amount of time and effort.
The ending scroll in BN 1 2 and 3. When your beat the game it is really fun to watch Netto and his friends and the navis doing all sorts of funny stuff. The music fits well too! I am rather disappointed that capcom no longer did this in Exe 4 and 5 and i certainly missed it so much.
and I don't mind about new sprites because I think they're more colourful. Also I agree with Nekomancer that fighting with darkness navis is kinna out of date but it would be fine if they just keep [spoil:ce765671e6]dark rock and blues[/spoil:ce765671e6] and not all the navis has to be dark. |

Oh yes indeed, I'd love to have that. I've played through Zero 3 dozens of times simply because I could go through the story without the pain of having to find and level up all my skills and weapons again. I'm just waiting for Capcom to realize what a smart move that was and to start putting it into the BN games. I just don't want it to be a cop-out reason for shortening the game like in BN4, that's all. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover
