I have three Asian friends... one is Taiwanese, one is Korean, and one is Chinese... and none of them are fluent in their "native languages." Furthermore, even Babelfish says you're wrong. You're fighting a losing battle and making enemies like wildfire. Just cut it out. _________________

Alrighty, now Izu has stepped up to the plate to translate the title, are you ready for this?
..it's BELOW.
Do not bring it up again or you will be delt with by the administration. Get back on to discussion of what happened in Epsidoe 42. Thank you. _________________

What a silly, unnecessary argument.
RockmanRotties, I understand that you have complete faith in your friend's Japanese, but keep in mind that this is a translation to English - are his English skills flawless, then?
I took a look at the title after I was directed to this topic and the title romanization is "Duo no hoshi no moto ni." (Screencap here.) Now as you may or may not know, the part in question is the "moto ni"; the first word means "beneath" or "below" and the second is an indication of placement. The "ni" is what cements the sentence as referring to a place; let's say for example that you were saying you were inside a castle, you'd say "shiro no naka ni".
Now, I should also point out that the kanji used (下) is the same one that's used in the verb "to fall". ("sagaru") If you cut off the "ni" in the episode title you could indeed translate it as the fall of the comet, but with "ni" there it is specifically referring to a place - more accurately, the place below said comet. With the "ni" in place at the end of the title it doesn't make sense to use the "fall" meaning of the word; as you surely know, Japanese is a heavily context-based language. I would guess that your friend was thinking about an alternate meaning of the 下 kanji, which would be perfectly viable if the place indicator were not present. For more information on Japanese prepositions, or if I have not adequately explained it, feel free to have a look at this site.
Additionally, this is a really silly thing to fight over. I understand that you were trying to "help" by correcting the translation but the ensuing flaming was completely unecessary. If you have an issue with Josuke's character or that of anyone else on this forum, please keep it between you rather than bringing it here, or it will be necessary to have you removed. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

Just because you have a Japanese friend doesnt mean he's an expert on his language...I'm Vietnamese and Chinese and I barely speak of word of Vietnamese and no Chinese at all. Plus by your very same reasoning, your friend has an equal chance of being incorrect.
...Before correcting people on their Japanese....work on your English sentences too...
Apparently we're gonna be seeing more R-Tomahawkman next week. *isnt sure if anyone already said that* |
Please stop tell me about my english sentences. I already told you that it is not my first language and I have three fluent languages. SO WHAT! As long as I can write english..why are you annoying about my language. I went to few forums and they dont care as long as you can write english. Please stop tell people what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt say my friend is an expert..you are assume my friend falsely. Again, please...just STFU with people's languages. You are judge people's languages. Why do you care ? I am sick of people like you telling people what to do with theirs languages. You are not TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP IT! |
