There is logic to it being a purse, Aint no one gonna try to steal a purse if it looks like a grenade.

Also sometimes writers put mistakes in to be funny. The simpsons is supposed to have one in every episode, like the time they were doing tall tails, homer killed all the buffalo and the town was about to eat him because they were out of food, lisa brings them all apples and moe goes to get an apple but in the next scene he has a fork and is under homers clothes and says "so we're not eating homer?"
