I doubt they'll even get that far. |

Rumors are rumors, and many of them are based on narutards freaking out about worst case scenarios and "what ifs". Regardless of how "bad" the dub turns out, we're still getting uncut DVDs with subtitles on them, which instantly puts how Naruto is going to be handled by Viz Media leaps and bounds beyond what 4-Kids is doing with One Piece.
Come on guys, I know Naruto is a good series, and at times even a great series, and seeing it butchered would be bad, but the level of paranoia I've seen amongst Narutards is ridiculous. If you're seriously THAT worked up about an English TV dub that nobody will ever FORCE you to watch, particularly when it's been confirmed that uncut, subtitled DVDs are indeed in the works, then maybe you're a little too big of a fan. _________________

Timestones got it perfectly. Shopro knows that Naruto is an extremely popular series, and if you had only seen some of the articles from Shonen Jump about behind the scenes for the production so far, you'd be convinced that this time they KNOW what they're doing. As far as 'rumors' go, I think I need to quote from a certain intelligent webmaster known as VegettoEX:
Quote: | - News is not news unless there is a reputable, authoritative source listed.
Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Anyone with a connection can log onto a message board, or even make their own website, and claim to have some kind of "inside scoop" on what's-what and who's-who in the world of fandom... but this doesn't necessarily mean they do. Unless you're reading this information on a news site that is well known for having truthful and unbiased news, you're probably reading the work of an attention-seeking twelve-year-old. Oh, and bad spelling is always a tip-off (people who can't type properly generally don't have any corporate inside sources). |

Un... It's not like 4Krap got it. Even Viz can't complete crap Naruto. They probably know how many idiots who can't even pronounce Naruto's name correctly would be storming their HQ. _________________

I wanted to avoid bringing up 4-Kids directly, but yes, this is pretty much exactly my point. _________________

Speaking of that, lately I've been hearing a lot of complaining on the Snafu forum specifically about how english dubs tend to pronounce the character names incorrectly, like in Inuyasha, and they're afraid of that happening in Naruto.
As far as that goes, I don't really are. I pronounce Naruto "NaRUto" rather than the correct "NAruto" like the Japanese version, and many people who like the series do that too. They're KEEPING all of the character names aren't they? Most of which are sometime hard to remember (for Americans at least) traditional Japanese names, that would seem like easy openings for another dubbing agency to transform into something more americanized, like many of the one-shot EXE series characters. Although this is something more related to another forum, still seems appropriate.
Plus, one of the things that assured me of enjoyment on this dub from the interviews on SJ was that Shopro kept mentioning how they wanted to stay as true to the spirit of the original japanese version as possible. For instance, keeping the OST. |

The uncut DVDs release in boxsets, in July.
Honestly, I can't see how the heck some people can complain about the dub when it hasn't even aired yet. To them, I say shut up. |

To add to that, it's not as though Japanese voice actors ever mispronounce English names and words! :3

Eh? What do you mean by those pronuciations? You mean that you pronounce it "Nay-ru-to" or "Nah-ru-to"? _________________

No, I mean what part of the name you put accent on. The japanese pronounces his name "NAruto" with the "na" being what you say slightly longer, and "ruto" going faster. Meanwhile, a lot of people in America are used to pronouncing them with the middle symbol being accented. Cases like: KaGOme, SaKUra and NaRUto. Like that. |

You must be kidding yourself if you believe that Naruto isn't going to get that far. Not only is the show popular without localization and much merchandise thus far, but the hype is incredible.
[spoil:f195e65f1f]They could always make it seem like bones grow out from his skin or something. The anime slightly changed the bloodline from the manga to make it suitable for its timeslot, and they can do it again.[/spoil:f195e65f1f]

Gundamfan, use the spoiler box...That part hasn't even aired in the anime yet. That's what they're there for.
And in regards to that, [spoil:f195e65f1f]there's nothing really bad about Sasori. He's just a puppet. Nothing disturbing there that kids can't see, really.[/spoil:f195e65f1f] |

I meant on Toonami it wouldn'get far cause of all the things they cut out but the DVDs will most likely go far. |

Already seen em. Seems that Naruto is being voiced by a girl in an attempt to make him sound like his Japanese counterpart. Sasuke is being playing by Haru from Rave Masters, and Kakashi by Sora from .hack// rather than Steven Blum, who's now playing Zabuza one of the early villains. I'm still getting used to the character names, so the only ones I know off hand are the three main characters, Kakashi, Iruka, Zabuza and Haku. Also www.narutofan.net has the cast list with a few other characters listed as well. |

Don't worry, thread necromancy's allowed if it's for something useful like that, to avoid posting a new topic.
Hmm, quite a lot of voices I don't recognize there... They got the guy who did Cielo from DDS though, so I think that one at least will probably be good. |

Naruto is also coming to YTV. It'll probably take Gundam SEED's time slot.
I recognize Dave Whittenberg, Steven Blum, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, & Doug Erholtz. _________________

To tell you all the truth, hearing this is the worst thing to ever know.
Now people in my school are gonna find out about this show, watch the english one (Which WILL most likely not turn out as good as the Japan one.) and they will be like, "YOU WATCH NARUTOOO!??!??!?!?!?!?!?!???!??!?!???!" and I'll never haer the end of the insults and the teasing they'll give me.....
Same thing happened with DBZ, same thing happened with Rockman EXE.... |
