I just read in the latest game informer about this one guy who found a site about how to make game sprites from these beads that can melt together when you iorn them. They were like pealer beads or something like that. Anyhoo does anyone know what kinda beads these are or what site this guy was talking about???

P.S. The issue of game informer has a picture of Soul Calaber III on the cover... I think

That wasn't Game Informer, it was Electronic Gaming Mothly (Although it may have been in both). Yeah, it did have a Soul Calibuer III cover. I saw that article. It's pretty cool how someone did that. That guy must be pretty good with those beads to do something like that. As for the beads...They were out a LONG time ago as a childrens toy, but now you can hardly find them. Only by prowling Flea Markets and the Internet can you find them, at least as far as I know. Oh, and as for the site...I'll check the issue right now for information.

EDIT: Damn, no info on the site. Sorry, Valtz

Dang. I was hoping I could start to make them. Well thank you for the information. Maybe there's a chance I can still make them ^^ (really wants to use them as pins and stuff like that)

Iiiii remember thooose! Those little plastic beads you ironed flat to melt and get them to stick together? Yeah! They'd come in a big bag with these little plastic plates that had spikes on them, and you'd put the beads on the spikes to help you make a certain shape. Me and my sister made about, like.... ten million heart-shaped ones.
I never thought to make SPRITES with them, though... wasn't really into Nintendo back then, now I wish I had some of those beads left... oh well.
(Hm, I crochet plushes of characters, does that still count?)

Something like this?

http://www.insertcredit.com/features/beads/

I actually saw a few kits for sale (somewhere) that were specifically to make Namco Pacman, Galaga, Galaxian, and Dig Dug characters with beads. I couldn't find them again, so I just found a page showing how to make them using any beads. ^_^ I may try this sometime. Makes me remember making sprites with the old Mario Paint cart on the SNES.

Hehe, have any of you ever thought to check a craft store for them? The ones around here carry them all the time, and so do the local wal-marts! I used to make penguins and ducks with them all the time, but if I can ever find my bigger board for it, I should probably take a swing at the pixel stuff....

Ooh. We call that as bead art way WAY back. I used to do this in school (part of an art class). Those are still sold in craft stores here as well.

Oh yeah, I once saw a girl with her bag filled with sprites of Sailormoon characters, all done with beads and cross-stitches. Kind of interesting...

THey dont take very long to do really. But ive found the best place to buy these beads is in places like toys r us. They tend to be more in toy stores than art stores but thats just what if found.

Well let me explain basically you purchase a set of beads and place them on a pegboard whihc holds them in place. you arrange them into your chosen design. Put a peace of ironing paper ontop and iron to melt the tops of the beads together to make them stick. pull of the peg board and voila!

And just incase anybody was inspired by my earlier examples heres some more recent creations of mine. The rockman navi coasters Series 1!

These are made as stated above and then varnished and glossed to create perfect coasters!
