String/name abuse

String = data/value input for later use. Such as a character's name in an RPG.

Any cool or funny ways you input a string for a game on purpose and you get a funny message? If you've heard of Action Fighter for the Master System, you put in your name. At the start of each life, it says "(name) Ready" So, I put my name in as "I am not" and the game said "I am not ready"

Ah, I remember how really stupid Pokemon players would name their Pokemon "to hell" so the game would say "Go! to hell!" Really rather childish.

I can't think of any others that are as easy to make jokes with.

Almost every game where you can name a character can lead to funny (or otherwise awkward) situations. Add to that if you know instances where those situations comes up.

In Suikoden 2, if you have a Suikoden 1 save game loaded, if the Suikoden 1's name has any capital letters on the beggining, those capital letters will be written over that heroes name, which is McDohl. If you name him as jim, you'll still get McDohl. If you name him as Ross, you get RcDohl. If you name him as JR, you'll get JRDohl. Now, what will you get if you name him as ASH :] ?

I once saw a pokemon game where the character was named hairyas* so that wasn't funny. And that's pretty much it for me.

In Final Fantasy 7, a friend of mine named Cloud 'wanker'. I didn't get it either, but it was still funny nonetheless.
One time in 4th grade, my cousin wanted to play my GBC with Pokemon Silver in it. I had named my rival '???' (hey, that's what he calls himself--why not take it literally?) and he thought it was hilarious.

Hey what do you know, I called him that in crystal mostly because I didn't know they're names so I called the hero gold in gold etc. (btw his name is kenta while I forgot what the rival is named but he's supposed to have name.)

haha, Pokemon was really popular with this kind of thing.

I remember one of my friends named the Rival in Pokemon Red "Stinky". After you beat your rival once, he says "Smell ya later!" So it was basically:

Stinky: Smell ya later!

And then there were various OMGs and LOLs. And we also named him a question mark where any exclamation mark after his name would be "?!"

I used to call "Gary" in Pokemon Red "My butt" so it would say,
"My butt wants to battle" whenever I fought the rival.

And once I also called myself, "Bitch" while playing Chrono Trigger, so when you are taken away as a captive after the court scene, Marle would yell out, "Bitch!!"

The best I could remember was when I named my enemy in silver "dumass" and when my brother named his enemy in crystal "asshole". Wow, now that I look back on it, thats so childish!

Yeah, Pokemon provided funny situations. If I remember, Prof Oak said when you win the Indigo League : "Hey (name of your rival)! ..."
That's why I ended up giving him some stupid names, like Banana, Badger, or Stupid (well, a French equivalent which is a little more impolite)

In Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego (NES version) put your name in as "I AM UGLY", because the person who greets you after putting your name in will say "I AM UGLY" and she IS ugly. Very ugly.

Well in halo or any other FPS for that matter names can be hilarious.
For example: John was squashed by Bob, meaning he used a warthog to run him over..BUT: John was squashed by AGIANTBUNNY makes it funny.

I did this in pokemon, I put blastoise as Go-go an then it said Go! Go-go!

And that thing with like the you were shot by so and so. I do that all the time in lazertag. Namely:

My friend let me make a ton of new characters in his Halo 2, and some of lines when we killed the new guys were funny. Examples:

You sniped an old lady
You butchered the squirrel
You killed yourself
You squashed your mom
You sniped somebody
You butchered me.
You were killed by your wife
You killed ...who cares?

Then again, some of those seemed pretty stupid. But I had fun with it.
